  • After having a list (of at least 8 events), please PRIORITIZE the risks. How probable it is that those events will happen? Start your list with the event which seems to be the most probable and end the list with the event which is the least probable! Try to find ways how to prevent those events happening!
    Name of event
How to prevent this event? (Student thoughts)
How to prevent this event? (Serious answers)
    Laziness
Don’t… Wait what were we supposed to do..? Ummm… OOH I GOT IT – procrastinate!!
Do not procrastinate and try to do things immediately as they come to mind.
    Drugs and alcohol abuse
Know your limits.. Or learn them first
Know your limits. Don’t do it just because everyone else is.
    Financial problems
Handle your savings by keeping a budget . If you’re broke, this step is a necessity.
Handle your savings by using a budget. If possible find a job that isn’t too time consuming.
    Mental health problems
Don’t ignore your health, get help if needed.
Tell a parent /friend/ doctor . Don’t keep it in.
    Physical health
Go to the doctor if something happens.
See a doctor if something has happened .
    Work
Don’t prioritize work over education, trust me, you can survive on ramen noodles for 3 years , the pay you’ll get after is worth it. (if you’re an engineering student)
Don’t prioritize work. If possible don’t go to work or take on minimal hours .
    Time management
Don’t bite off more than you can chew . The memes are not worth it, focus on work while you’re doing work and on memes while you’re looking at memes.
Use a calendar or a journal in-order to write everything down happening that day and in the future.
    Young love
    ….. Good luck, mate
Well this one you can’t really avoid. Love comes at the most unexpected times . But don’t over-prioritize it.
TASK 2 – WORKPLACE RISK ASSESSMENT
  • Study carefully the job situation (a photo )! Butcher
  • Try to name as many hazards you can think of while looking at the photo and the working situation! You can use the additional list getting some ideas , but it’s more than welcome to create your own ideas about the hazards.
  • Write down all the hazards what come in to your mind. There should be a lot more than just a couple!
    1. Working area isn’t clean
    2. Minimal protection
    3. Sharp knife
    4. Distractions
    5. Harmful microbe inhalation
    6. Suicide option
  • Rank the risks of those workplace hazards in given work conditions – using BS 8800 risk matrix (see Lecture slides)!
  • Prioritize the risks (starting with the one which has the highest number)!
  • Propose safety measures for each hazard which has a level of risk higher than II! Start with engineer control methods, followed by organizational methods and only last option – consider personal protective equipment .
  • Present your results:
  • Description of the work situation
The workplace is a butcher shop where a butcher is cutting meat with a knife. He has a woman in the workplace that can be of a distraction to him and a knife without a knife guard. He is also only wearing 1, by the looks of it very thin , glove and has no mask or any other kind of protection.
ii. Description of hazards and their risks as a following table:
    Hazard (name + type)
    Current preventive/safety cautions
    Risk ranking (value + name)
Safety measures (should be more than just 1) to reduce risk!
    1. Minimal protection – can cut off finger
    1 glove
    Intolerable risk
    1. Give him leather gloves
    2. Give him a knife guard
    3. Give him a machine with which he can cut the meat
    2. Sharp knife – tool to cut off finger
    No protection
    Intolerable risk
    1. Give him a machine to cut the meat
    2. Give him a knife guard
    3. Harmful microbe inhalation – can get a disease
    No mask
    Substantial risk
    1. Give him a mask
    2. Give him a machine, so he won’t inhale microbes
    4. Distractions – can be distracted and hurt himself
    No solitude
    Moderate risk
    1. Give him a workplace that others can’t access without his permission.
    5. Suicide option – if he wanted to he could kill himself
    No knife guard
    Moderate risk
    1. Make sure the worker is happy .
    2. Give him a machine so he won’t contemplate killing himself with a knife.

Sylvia Day Bared to You Sylvia Day Bared to You The first book in the Crossfire series, 2012 This one is for Dr. David Allen Goodwin. My love and gratitude are boundless. Thank you, Dave. You saved my life. Acknowledgments My deepest gratitude to my editor, Hilary Sares, who really dug into this story and made me work for it. Basically, she kicked my ass. By not pulling her punches or letting me shortchange the details, she made me work harder and because of that, this story is a much, much better book. BARED TO YOU wouldn't be what it is without you, Hilary. Thank you so much! To Martha Trachtenberg, copy editor extraordinaire. This book is an important one for me and she treated it that way. Thank you, Martha! To Victoria Colotta, for all her hard work on the i
