The result is that the real Dorian dies and changes into the hideous man from the portrait and the picture restores its original look. This novel is a very good example of the idea that when there's something good, there's always something bad too. The price that Dorian had to pay for everlasting youth was that he turned into a hideous and heartless creature, that's a price I wouldn't pay.

When Dorian takes a look at the body he identifies the man who had tried to kill him. When Dorian gets home after the hunting trip he decides to start his life from a fresh page. He decides that he'll move to another country and destroy the portrait. When he stabs the picture with a knife, he and the man in the picture change places. The picture becomes young and beatiful again, while Dorian's face becomes deformed. In the progress Dorian also dies.
