bändi. Selle nimeks sa Fecal Matter ja peale Kurti kuulusid punti Dale Crover bassil ja Greg Hokanson trummidel. Nii leidis Kurt lõpuks võimaluse oma laule bändiga mängida ja lindistada. Esimesel demol oli seitse lugu. Tasapisi kaotasid bändiliikmed aga huvi ja Kurti esimene bänd lagunes. Chris ei tahtnud kaua vedu võtta, aga kui ta Fecal Matteri demot lõpuks kuulata viitsis, meeldis see talle ja ta ise tegi Kurtile ettepaneku hakata koos muusikat tegema.
