characterization of a set of internal transcribed spacer sequences found within every rDNA repeat unit by implementing direct sequencing methodology. The prominent allelic variants and their relative amounts characterizing an individual can be described by a single sequencing electropherogram of the mixed amplicon containing the variants present within the genome. We propose a method for rational analysis of heterogeneity of multicopy genes by compiling a profile based on quantification of different sequence variants of the internal transcribed spacers of the freshwater sponge Ephydatia fluviatilis as an example. In addition to using conventional substitution analysis, we have developed a mathematical method, the proportion model method, to quantify the relative amounts of allelic variants of different length using data from direct sequencing of the heterogeneous amplicon

Wave-energy

Wave energy Introduction to wave energy There are several possibilities to harvest different forms of energy from the sea. One of these options is the usage of waves for the generation of electricity. The devices needed to perform this task are called wave energy converters. Wave energy is indirect solar energy in twice. At first there is the wind, which is caused by variations in atmospheric pressure due to a differential solar heating of earth's surface by the sun. Different regions of pressure drives a force which rises a movement of atmospheric air masses that causes the earths wind system. If wind strikes over the surface of an open water, waves are induced. First they are very flat with only a low level of energy. When there is a long distance over the water on which wind can attack the small ones, they became bigger and bigger with a lot of energy inside them. Physics of wave energy

Beam trawls are used to harvest whitefish, mainly flatfish such as sole, plaice or megrim together with angler and other species found hard down on the seabed. Each net is fished from an outrigger boom, one on each side of the vessel (Figure 14), and towed from here on a single warp (a) shackled to a three chain bridle (b) attached directly to the beam (c) which holds open the mouth of the trawl. The beam, 9-12 m in length, is constructed from heavy steel tube and supported on each side by rugged steel trawlheads (d) which slide over the sea bottom. Ahead of each groundrope several tons of tickler chains (e) or chain mats (f) are used to disturb fish, causing them to rise up and be taken by the trawl following immediately behind. Towing speeds are generally higher than otter trawling, reaching 6 or 7 knots on clean ground with ticklers, whereas on rough ground stone mats are towed at around 4 knots

Mainly caused by the abrasion of fabric surface occurring during washing and wearing of fabrics, this defect needs to be accurately controlled and measured by companies working in the textile industry. Pilling measurement is traditionally performed using manual procedures involving visual control of fabric surface by human experts. Since the early nineties, great efforts in developing automatic and non-intrusive methods for pilling measurement have been made all around the world with the final aim of overcoming traditional,

processor with analog parts. Digital electronics lets the PC on your desk execute different programs at different times, perform complex calculations, and communicate via the World Wide Web. While the electronic world is nearly all digital, the real world is not. The temperature in your office is not just hot or cold, but varies over a wide range. You can use a thermometer to determine what the temperature is, but how do you convert the temperature to a digital value for use in a microprocessor- controlled thermostat? The ignition control microprocessor in your car has to measure the engine speed to generate a spark at the right time. A micro- processor-controlled machining tool has to position the cutting bit in the right place to cut a piece of steel. This book provides coverage of practical control applications and gives some opamp examples; however, its focus is neither control theory nor opamp theory

Sediment and Soil The fate of formaldehyde in soil has not been determined HEALTH EFFECTS Acute toxicity The major acute effects are a result of the irritating properties of formaldehyde. After acute inhalation, irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs, as well as cellular changes, such as ciliar lesions and cellular swelling in the upper respiratory tract have been observed. A 4-hour LC50 value of 480 ppm has been determined for rats. The oral LD50 was 600-800 mg/kg b.w. in rats. In humans, no reports of deaths following acute inhalation exposure to formaldehyde were located. In humans, serious ulceration and damage of the gastrointestinal tract have been found after ingestion of formaldehyde (45 ml of a 37 % v/v solution ) or a gulp of a 40 % v/v solution. No reports on deaths following acute inhalation exposure were located. Irritation Skin irritation Studies in Animals

An Anode has positive potential and therefore collects electrons in the device. Cathode has negative potential and therefore emits electrons to anode. The symbol looks like an arrow that ponts from the anode to the cathode, and reminds that conventional current flows easily from the p side(anode) to the n side(cathode). BIASING. Forward biasing. If the current in a diode is too large, excessive heat will destroy the device. Even approaching the burnout current value without reaching it can shorten its life. Therefore manufacturer's data sheet specifies the maximum forward current, that diode can withstand. This average current IF is the rate a diode can handle up to the forward direction when used as a rectifier. Another entry of interest in the data sheet is the forward voltade drop UF(max) when the maximum forward current occurs. An usual diode has this value 0.7-2.0V. Diode conducts easily when forward biased. Reverse biasing

carried away by the violence of water was to make the bridge without fixing any posts in the water. Since the beginning of time, the goal of bridge builders has been to create as wide a span as possible which is commodious, firm, and occasionally delightful. Spanning greater distances is a distinct measure of engineering prowess. In terms of engineering, bridges are discussed by design or type (beam, arch, truss, cantilever, suspension, or moveable); length (usually expressed in terms of clear or overall span); and materials (stone, wood, cast and wrought iron, and what we use today - concrete and steel). The purpose of this contextual essay is to provide parameters of value and significance so that we can focus our attention on those bridges - globally - that best illustrate the history of bridge building, and to encourage their preservation. Some renewable energy technologies are criticised for being intermittent or unsightly, yet the market is growing for many forms of renewable energy. Climate change concerns coupled with high oil prices, peak oil and increasing government support are driving increasing renewable energy legislation, incentives and commercialization. New government spending, regulation, and policies should help the industry weather the 2009 economic crisis better than many other sectors. Costs Renewable energy systems encompass a broad, diverse array of technologies, and the current status of these can vary considerably. Sunflower plantings, production, and supply and disappearance activities throughout the world are ever- changing. Statistics provide persons with a vested interest in the industry a foundation of where we've been in order to help us understand where we need to go. Use the Sunflower Statistics section as a resource for data on a global, national, and state-level perspective. Meal/Wholeseed Feeding Sunflower meal is the by-product of the oil extraction process. Oil is the majority value of sunflower seed and meal is considered a by-product. Sunflower meal is an excellent livestock feed, especially for ruminants. For the last several years, the supply of U.S. sunflower meal has been somewhat inconsistent. That is changing as the domestic market for sunflower oil increases. September the fields and roadsides of the Great Plains erupt in a blaze of yellow as the sunflowers and goldenrods (also members of the sunflower family) make their presence

The name Petroleum covers both naturally occurring unprocessed crude oils and petroleum products that are made up of refined crude oil. A fossil fuel, it is formed when large quantities of dead organisms, usually zooplankton and algae, are buried underneath sedimentary rock and undergo intense heat and pressure. Petroleum is recovered mostly through oil drilling. This comes after the studies of structural geology (at the reservoir scale), sedimentary basin analysis, reservoir

Nor did you understand (1) by having seen a very similar sentence, since I doubt that anyone has ever produced a sentence even remotely similar to (1). You may say that you understood (1) because you speak English and (1) is an English sentence. That is true so far as it goes, but it only pushes the mystery to arm's length. How is it that you are able to "speak English," given that speaking English involves being able to produce and understand, not only elementary expressions like "I'm thirsty," "Shut up," and "More gravy," but novel sentences as complex as (1)? That ability is truly amazing, and much harder to explain than how you breathe or how you eat or how you walk, each of which abilities is already well understood by physiologists.

2007. Stebbins (1997, p. 358) suggests that the unstructured ethnographic interview ‘remains the most effective way to explore the values, attitudes and orientations used to explain and justify’ lifestyles. My own six years of experience backpacking through Europe, Asia, Oceania and South America (1999 to 2003, 2005) helped in gaining access to the social world of these lifestyle travellers. My past travel periods typically ranged from six to nine months, as after this length of time I ordinarily exhausted my savings and turned to casual employment in the United States to save up funds for my next extended backpacking trip. Whilst I once adhered to a romanticised vision of a life of backpacking, the research process saw an eventual ‘secularisation’ of my disposition towards lifestyle travel, despite my continuing interest in de-marginalising this lifestyle choice. According to Stuart Bull, a senior 3D modeling technician with Arup Australia, “3D modeling serves often as an interface for the data stored in a Building Information Model, but BIM itself is something beyond the simple geometric representation of building spatial properties.” (Kostura, 2009). BIM software saves the structural information associated with the drawn beam – the beam size, length, weight, and other relevant information including the 3D properties. In addition, since the actual properties are available, areas where building components clash can be picked up by the software. Intelligent documents have the ability to provide material quantity data for the project (Smilow, 2007). Although the Building Information Model is mostly conveyed in the form of a 3D visualization, it is merely a mechanism for
