Summary
This book tells a story about a woman, who’s husband had just died. Holly , the main character, is trying to get on with her life after the death of her husband Gerry . They were happily married for 12 years . A few months before Gerry’s death, they found out that he had a brain tumor and he was hospitalized. Holly always stayed beside him, she quit her job so she could spend all her time with Gerry.
Before his death Gerry wrote 10 letters , in them he guides Holly and helps her rediscover herself . After his death Holly got the letters from her mother . There was a big envelope, with 10 little letters inside it. All the letters had different months written on them. Every month she had to open one letter . The point of the letters was that he will always be at her side. Her best friends Denise and Sharon were also at her side, supporting her through it.
The first month she had to buy herself a bedside lamp, because they always argued about who had to turn off the light .
The second month he hold her to buy a new outfit for herself. Because she always had to look at her best.
The third month she had to go sing karaoke. The last time she had done so, it ended badly. She was very afraid , but did it anyway.
In the fourth month he says , that he shouldn’t be remembered by his belongings, he should exist in her mind. She has to put away all his things.
The fifth month she finds out that Gerry had been planning a trip with some friends to Lanzarote. He had already paid for all of it. She just had to enjoy it.
In the sixth letter he tells her to go to the lighthouse. Near the lighthouse swim dolphins and Holly liked them very much.
In the seventh letter he tells her to find a job that she really enjoys. Holly hated her previous jobs.
The eight letter says that she should plant sunflowers, to brighten the dark October days .
Also there was an extra letter for his friend John. It was a birthday wish.
The ninth letter says that she should go to the ball that they attend every year .
The last letter tells her not to be afraid of falling in love again .
Every letter ended with the same sentence: “P.S. I love you…”
Even if she didn’t like all the plans he had for her, she followed through and did them all.
During the experience she meets up with Daniel . Daniels girlfriend had been unfaithful and he was alone . Together they became close and Daniel fell in love with Holly. But because Holly wasn’t ready for it she started ignoring Daniel. But at Denise’s wedding she found out that Daniel had gotten back together with his old girlfriend. But she wasn’t mad at him for that.
In the end of the story she bumps into a man on the street and they go and have a cup of coffee . She is ready to love again, it doesn’t matter if it will come in 10 months or 10 years.
Things I learned

2) Friends always have to help one another in troubled times .
3) Life goes on after a tragic death of a loved one.
4) You shouldn’t keep problems wrapped up inside you. Instead talk about it.
5) People can love again, after losing the person you thought you would be with forever .
6) At a job interview you always should always bring out your best characteristics .
7) Stay true to yourself and believe in yourself.
8) You should always listen to other people’s opinion first, before talking back.
9) In death there is always a new beginning .
10) “Blue Rock” is the new hot drink for winter .
Favorite passage
Holly broke down, sadness sweeping over her. Yet she felt relief at the same time; relief that Gerry would somehow continue to be with her for another little while . She leafed through the small white envelopes and searched through the months. It was April now. She had missed March so she delicately picked out the envelope. She opened it slowly, wanting to savour every moment. Inside was a small card with Gerry’s handwriting on it. It read:
Save yourself the bruises and buy a bedside lamp!
PS. I love you…
Her tears turned to laughter as she realized her Gerry was back!
I liked it because in all those sad thoughts and feelings she had; now there was something to wait for. She didn’t see any point in living without him. The letters gave her comfort and strength to go on.

Part 8 Stiva gets the job he desired so much, and Karenin takes custody of baby Annie. A group of Russian volunteers, including Vronsky, who does not plan to return alive, depart from Russia to fight in the Orthodox Serbian revolt that has broken out against the Turks. Meanwhile, amid the joys and fears of fatherhood, Levin no longer feels he lacks Christian faith; he decides to give his life its own meaning through acts of goodness. Part 1, Chapters 1-6 The first line of the book is one of the most famous in literature: "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." The line leads into a household crisis between a wife and husband, Dolly and Stiva, but also forecasts the issues that will arise throughout the rest of the book, all of them having to do with personal relationships and family structures: especially those of Stiva and Dolly, Anna and Karenin, and Anna and Count Vronsky. Stiva's habits are described in detail. To avoid

Chapter 3 Not all that Mrs. Bennet, however, with the assistance of her five daughters, could ask on the subject, was sufficient to draw from her husband any satisfactory description of Mr. Bingley. They attacked him in various ways--with barefaced questions, ingenious suppositions, and distant surmises; but he eluded the skill of them all, and they were at last obliged to accept the second-hand intelligence of their neighbour, Lady Lucas. Her report was highly favourable. Sir William had been delighted with him. He was quite young, wonderfully handsome, extremely agreeable, and, to crown the whole, he meant to be at the next assembly with a large party. Nothing could be more delightful! To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love; and very lively hopes of Mr. Bingley's heart were entertained. "If I can but see one of my daughters happily settled at Netherfield," said Mrs. Bennet to

A lamb to the slaughter

Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl (1916-1990) The room was warm and clean, the curtains drawn, the two table lamps alight - hers and the one by the empty chair opposite. On the sideboard behind her, two tall glasses, soda water, whiskey. Fresh ice cubes in the Thermos bucket. Mary Maloney was waiting for her husband to come him (correction: home) from work. Now and again she would glance up at the clock, but without anxiety, merely to please herself with the thought that each minute gone by made it nearer the time when he would come. There was a slow smiling air about her, and about everything she did. The drop of a head as she bent over her sewing was curiously tranquil. Her skin - for this was her sixth month with child - had acquired a wonderful translucent quality, the mouth was soft, and the eyes, with their new placid look, seemed larger darker than before. When the clock said ten minutes to five, she began to listen, and a few moments later, punctually as always, she hear

Oliver is apprehensive but does not press to know why he is going to Mr. Sikes. Fagin leaves him with a candle and a book to read, and tells him to wait until someone comes to pick him up. He sits down to read the book only to find out it is about great murderers and thieves and the evil things they did. The book scares him, and he quits reading it. After hours of waiting, Nancy comes to pick him up and take him to Sikes. She tries to comfort him and warns him at the same time. She tells him to behave when they go into the street, saying she will get in trouble if he does not. He
