Northanger Abbey

Catherine Morland My name is Catherine Morland. I would like to tell you a bit about myself. To begin with, I am seventeen years old and grew up in a countryside in a small town named Fullerton with my parents and nine siblings. As a child I was interested in many things like drawing, sports and music. I was very lively and cheerful, enjoyed cricket, horse riding and just hated cleanliness and restriction. As I grew up, I chose reading over sports and all of the wild games I used to like. Undoubtedly, I would now describe myself with the word naivety. I am very naïve and do not notice the most obvious things happening around me. I really hope that it is caused by the lack of experience and will eventually pass. In addition, I find myself a kind and caring person because I always want and agree to help people when needed. Furthermore, I really like reading. Sometimes I think that I read too much because I often mix fiction up with reali...

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Mari Tiirik, i-2 Oscar Wilde "The Picture of Dorian Gray" Basil Hallward is a taciturn and solitary artist, who finds his perfect motif in a young boy called Dorian Gray, who is the model for his oil painted masterpiece. Due to the fact that Dorian is very handsome, actually even heavenly beautiful young man, a friend of Basil, a cynical aristocrat Lord Henry Wotton (Harry) finds great intrest in Dorian. Lord Henry Wotton wants to buy the picture, and moreover, he wants to meet the boy in the picture himself. Unfortunately, Dorian is an innocent and a pure child, this is why Hallward doesn't find the idea of these two men meeting, because he is afraid that Dorian won't find his relationship with Basil intesting and exciting anymore. Basil fell in love with Dorian while painting his picture. Basil also treated him good, kept his self- esteem and spirit up by saying all the great things about him, of how good he looks and how much ...

The Romantic Age

themselves with the structural discipline of Classical forms. Art Increased Nationalism and exoticism - Artist used their works for highlighting national identity and displayed exoticism by painting new and foreign things, including far away places and odd objects. More interest in Nature and the Supernatural - Artists often used nature to convey emotions. Also the supernatural represented emotions. For example: love-cupids, fear -demons, and many other characteristics. Individuality- it was all about loosing formal constraints, giving way to artists to show their individual ideas and emotions. Heroism- Heroism didn't just mean the supernatural. Many people, like Beethoven, believed that the common man could be heroes. Artists painted this idea during the Romantic Age. Artists: J.M.W. Turner, Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Cole The picture is painted by Thomas Cole : " The voyage of life"

Epic (ingl. k eepos)

An epic is a lengthy narrative poem, ordinarily concerning a serious subject containing details of heroic deeds and events significant to a culture or nation. Nonetheless, epics have been written down at least since the works of Virgil, Dante Alighieri, and John Milton. Many probably would not have survived if not written down. The first epics are known as primary, or original, epics. One such epic is the Old English story Beowulf. Epic Conventions, or characteristics common to both types include: 1. The hero is a figure of great national or even cosmic importance, usually the ideal man of his culture. He often has superhuman or divine traits. He has an imposing physical stature and is greater in all ways than the common man. 2. The setting is vast in scope. It covers great geographical distances, perhaps even visiting the underworld, other wortlds, other times. 3

It started from Dover, passed Paris (learned dancing, riding), Florence, Pisa (studying Renaissance), Rome (study Classical ruins), Greece and ended in Dover. It also passed many other places, but these were the most important. Greece was important because ancient Greece gave inspiration and it started the Greek revival. 6. Object-oriented programming.

Object-oriented programming (OOP) is a programming paradigm that uses "objects" and their interactions to design applications and computer programs. Programming techniques may include features such as information hiding, data abstraction, encapsulation, modularity, polymorphism, and inheritance. It was not commonly used in mainstream software application development until the early 1990s. Many modern programming languages now support OOP. Class Defines the abstract characteristics of a thing (object), including the thing's characteristics (its attributes, fields or properties) and the thing's behaviors (the things it can do, or methods, operations or features). One might say that a class is a blueprint or factory that describes the nature of something. For example, the class Dog would consist of traits shared by all dogs, such as breed and fur color (characteristics), and the ability to bark and sit (behaviors). Classes provide modularity and structure in an

Kokkuvõte: "What makes a good leader?"

What makes a good leader? There are many different leadership theories and opinions about characteristics and skills that leader should have. The Great Man Theory declares that the leaders are born not made, but the another theory claims that some people just have more leadership gifts than others. It's good to know leadership theories because the better you know them, the better you are likely to lead. If you want to succeed in your career or business, it is important to be the leader in your field. Leaders need clear sense of their calling and they need to be curios about it to notice new things

Charles Darwin

This could be called evolutionary, but it does not offer a theory of evolution, an order in which evolution took place. It was no longer acceptable to say "God did it". Therefor, if evolution was to ever become a science, a rational explanation had to be offered. Such an explanation was proposed by Jean Babtiste Lamarck toward the end of the eighteenth century, and Lamarck became best known for his pre-Darwin theory of evolution. According to Lamarck, the acquired characteristics of the parents could be handed down to their offspring. Suppose, to take the most over used example, that the first generations of giraffe had a neck of ordinary length. Because the lower branches of the trees they fed off were easily striped, these early giraffes stretched out their necks to reach higher branches. In doing so, they caused their offspring to be born with slightly longer necks, until the ultimate result was the giraffe of today.

And no cheating! :D) The acoustic and perceptual bases of judgments of women and men's sexual orientation from read speech Authors: Benjamin Munson _, Elizabeth C. McDonald, Nancy L. DeBoe, Aubrey R. White 2006 Goal: Three experiments examined acoustic and perceptual characteristics of the speech of Gay; Lesbian; Bisexual (GLB) and heterosexual people. Experiment 1 examined the acoustic characteristics of single words produced by both men and women who identified as either GLB or heterosexual. The largest differences between GLB and heterosexual women were in the F1 frequency of /e/ and the F2 frequency of /oR/. The largest differences between the groups of men were in the F1 frequency of /e/ and /a/, and the spectral skewness of the fricative /s/.

From the experiment with connection, we get that the nominal current is 0.75A without boosting and 0.8A with boosting and that the maximal current is 2.6A without boosting and 2.8 with boosting. The differences in experimental data come from using a lower frequency of 25 Hz instead of the rated frequency of 50 Hz for which the motor was designed for. Also the experimental current characteristics are affected by the characteristics of the load machine. 4.2 On the timing diagram of the block and sinusoidal patterns at 25 Hz, find the number of sectors and the number of pulses in a sector in both cases. Tolerance and Diversity

acquainted with. The origin of a person is usually top priority. However, some people do not care where their friends are from and what the colour of their skin is. "Tolerance" is a noun with profound meaning. It has been built on an individual opinion, on the influence of friends and how the society affects people. Human nature is one-sided, because they believe in exact stereotypes of people and try to follow them. Many characteristics are also immediately being added to the person's characteristics according to its origin. It is better if you never evaluate anything by its appearance in order not to come to the wrong conclusion. People are very easily affected. Media and television are the main influencers. People today just watch television, read newspapers, magazines and take almost everything they say very seriously. Sometimes it seems that people's brains have been paralyzed by the media. They are not able to think themselves, which leads them to stereotypes created by mass media.

Austraalia madalaim punkt on Eyre’i järv ja kõrgeim mägi on Big Benivulkaan. 2.Pinnamood soodustab turistide tulekut, sest neil on mida vaadata seal. Tänu Austraalia kuivale sisealale on seal spetsialiseerutud ekstensiivsele lamba-, lihaveise- ja nisukasvatusele. Tihedama asustusega rannikualadel on spetsialiseerutud intensiivsele tehniliste kultuuride, köögi- ja puuvilja ning piimakarja kasvatamisele. Kuna riigis on vahemaad suured, siis on enim soositud õhutransport. Eluliselt tähtis on õhutransport hõredalt asustatud kesk- ja lääneosas. 3. What qualities should, should not a teacher have

What qualities should/should not a teacher have The quality of the education of young people depends on the work of the teacher, who is largely responsible for the exchange of knowledge and skills for young people from an early age up to adulthood. What characteristics must a teacher have in order to do their job as well as possible, so that young adults become enough to start their own life? The teacher must have an advanced level of knowledge in their field. The more qualified the teacher is the better and more clearly he knows how to convey his material for students. From that depends how well young people acquire the knowledge and benefit from skills they have obtained in their later life. Teaching skills are very important

Woman and management

arts, etiquette, manners and aspects of running a household. Women did not have any opportunity to say a word in any kind of business. They were only in a subordinate position. As the saying goes- behind every great man there is a great woman. I think that it was pretty fair that women were only at home in action with children at this time, because business were not so developed as the whole society. Good sence of authority, ability to take risks and decisiveness which are akin to men´s characteristics were good to lay the foundation for business. But also I think that going to business should not be forbidden to women. The advent of the indrustial revolution and during the World Wars, while men were at the front, women took charge of the factory work and many other practical jobs. Thanks to suffragettes, women became enfranchised. Nowadays women are successfully pursuaded in a senior management. I think that bringing

Reading a quality or a popular newspaper

Quality papers are printed on large pages, have an undramatic layout and very simple desing. Althoush they look serious their price is not very low. But on the other hand tabloids aim to excite the reader visually, using techniques such as very large headlines and photos. Those newspapers are more cheaper than quality papers. Accordingly, the readerships of those two different newspapers depend on the aforementioned different characteristics. For example, tabloids are more frequently bought by older and younger generations, because those people might find serious news boring, but on the other hand popular papers are attracting them with large headlines and photos. And quality papers, inversely, are read by people who do not care about those scandals and bloated news and want to keep up with politics and other serious topics. In conclusion, it can be said that quality and popular papers are quite different from each other

JÄÄKARU

native largely within the Arctic Circle encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. It is the world's largest land carnivore and also the largest bear, together with the omnivorous Kodiak bear, which is approximately the same size. A boar (adult male) weighs around 350 700 kg (7701,500 l while a sow (adult female) is about half that size. Although it is closely related to the brown bear, it has evolved to occupy a narrower ecological niche, with many body characteristics adapted for cold temperatures, for moving across snow, ice, and open water, and for hunting the seals which make up most of its diet. Although most polar bears are born on land, they spend most of their time at sea. Their scientific name means "maritime bear, and derives from this fact. Polar bears can hunt their preferred food of seals from the edge of sea ice, often living off fat reserves when no sea ice is present. The polar bear is classified as a vulnerable

Alice from Through the Looking-Glass

I think so because my favourite phrase, that I use very often, is ,, Let's pretend" whether it is about pretending that Kitty is a chess pawn or that I'm going through the looking-glass. I always take my best friends, Snowbell, Dina and Kitty, with me to my quests but they seem to appear as someone else so I usually recognise them only later. But it doesn't matter. They're my best friends in the real world and I talk to them all the time. I think my characteristics come out the best during my dreams. For example I am very curious and I never settle with what's right in front of me. I always want to see more and to do that you also have to be very determined and brave. I wanted to see more from the Looking-Glass world than just the livingroom and after I was offered the chance to become a queen I did not once give up on the long trip to the Eighth Square. Even when I had to enter the wood where things don't have names alone

"FRIENDSHIP"

Friendship Everyone has many acquaintances, but not all of them are friends. What is that something that makes people call someone a friend? People value different characteristics of others, but it is certain, that a true friend has to be reliable, honest and understanding. Aristotle has said that without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods. I agree with him. I think everyone needs a friend. What is the benefit of money and all other goods if you have no one to share it with? A friend can be your family member, your neighbour, classmate or even your dog. It may be weird to consider an animal as a

cover company would pay 1,6 billion DEM against 1,375 billion Ruhnau paid. 3)In 1985 the foreing currency options were a related new financial instrument for explosure management. Also analysts thought that 96 mil dollars was too big money amount for the purchase of an instrument, which hedger expected not to use. 4)We cant exactly answer, why Herr Ruhnau preffered Boeing to Airbus. But we can suppose that quality of Boeing jet and its technical characteristics surpassed Airbus jets. Also we can suppose thar Herr Ruhnau got a very good offer from Boeing and bought jets at a discount price. In conclusion we must to say that Board of Lufthansa should retain Herr Heinz Ruhnau as Chairman because he achieved a significant business results.

Are men better directors than women ?

Name: Chlen Zhopov Subject: Essay Are men better directors than women ? It is common that top executives in big companies are mostly men. But does that necessarily mean that women are not suitable for such responsible, effort and leadership demanding jobs? I do not think so. First of all, I would like to say that this tradition is coming not only from history, but from evolution. In nature, masculine representatives of most species are stronger, more agile and aggressive than feminine representatives, because their biological function is to be the main breadwinners and defenders of their families, while females' main functions are to distribute that bread within the family, raise, feed and look after the progeny. Of course there are exceptions like lions (lionesses do hunting which ensures food for their families), seahorses (males bear the eggs) and some others, but in general law of nature is such. So i...

Author: Sandra Olivares González Tutor: Jesús Marín Calvarro Degree in English Studies, English Department, Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, University of Extremadura Cáceres, 29th January 2016 Philip Larkin’s Poetry: Themes, Form, Style, Imagery and Symbolism The aim of this work is to obtain some characteristics of the poetry of Philip Larkin, such us the origin of his themes, the way in which he writes his poems and the symbolism he uses (which is a very controversial topic because some assume that he does use it, while some others say that he uses it in an ironic way). In this work we tried to make a revision on the vision of Larkin through the studies that had been made on him, and on the basis of it we can say, that the voice of Larkin still clearly contemporary today
