Why I came to study English
Why I came to study English? Seems like a simple question, but it certainly made me think about it. Some of my friends have even said that majoring in English seems so boring and they constantly bombard me with questions about my future. That made me think about how exactly did I end up studying English?
First of all, as a kid, I was so sure I would be a hairdresser or a teacher or a cook in the future. I am sure that almost every kid thinks the same , when all they have for inspiration are cartoons and toys to play with. When I started school, I was very interested in mathematics and other subjects that required logical thinking, because apparently I was smart in that area at the time. Up until 6th grade I was the best student in our class , winning mathematic competitions left and right and not only that. By that time I had also found out that I loved to write, specially poems and I used every opportunity to submit my works for competitions and I had the luck to win some of them. It felt good to be one of the best students in our class.
As the school went on and I finally found myself in 9th grade, just before the exams , and I realised that in the following years after my graduation from elementary school, my mathematic skills had gotten a bit rusty and I was mortified. Our teachers kept saying to us that math is really important in the future and that you have to have the knowledge in mathemathics to actually achieve something in your life. But still , there I was, writing poems and essays , even in my free time, because unlike my skills in maths and other subjects like chemistry and biology, my skills in writing had actually improved and I had also discovered my love of reading in English. I had always loved to read, but many of the books I loved had not been translated into Estonian, so naturally I had to read them in English. At the end of the 9th grade I actually made a promise to myself, that I would try to graduate high school with good grades, but I would not bother torturing myself with mathematics anymore and that I would concentrate on the things I'm good at, like literature and English and other languages.
Finally, 12th grade came and I already knew that I would like to study something with English or Public Relations or maybe those two together. I managed to pass all of my exams and graduate and then came the dreaded time of waiting to hear back from the universities . At the end, I had to choose between Spanish and English and naturally I chose English. I just feel so comfortable reading in English or writing in English. I don't remember when I last used subtitles when watching movies, just because I felt that it would also improve my English skills. I also have many friends abroad and I use English to communicate with them almost daily. I feel like English is around me all the time and I just cannot get enough of it. Right now, when I think back on the time when mathematics was the most important subject for me and how the teachers kept pushing it on, I actually laugh, because I would not imagine myself studying something related to that.
How do I imagine my future in English? That is the question I would like to know the answer to myself as well. I get asked very often if I will be a teacher or a translator in the future and I always answer no, because those two professions are not the ones I see my future in. One of my former teachers said that I should not worry about my future, because having a degree in English actually gives plus points everywhere you go. Still, as I mentioned before, I also wanted to get into Public Relations and that did not happen – ideally I would actually combine the two: English and PR, in the future. Right now I am just sure that I like studying English and I'm always ready to learn more and I definitely do not agree with my friends who say that studying English seems boring.

began teaching us French. But it was awkward and I'm not sure they themselves knew what they were doing or why. I can recall we cut out some pictures and glued them to a book and wrote some words up. I also recall the pronounciation was simplified for us, for example, they taught us "gööl" as the correct way to say "girl" etc. They never mentioned that it's not exactly correct... But well, then I switched schools and met the most important man of my life – my English teacher. He had three masters – in English, in German and in Physical Education. He had also written the school hymn. He was very stern with us and made us study like crazy. You made one tiny mistake, and it was "4", two mistakes made a "3" and so on. He was an awesome teacher. He said we can talk in his class as much as we want provided we do it in English. He also had us count the passing train cars in English, instead of Estonian. He made up the books himself, because there were none at

About myself

I think that I'm even tempered, rather reserved, calm and modest. But sometimes I can lose my tempo and become either angry or sad. I like staying alone and sometimes I retire into my shell. But at the same time I like my friends, I like to laugh and joke. I have got a sense of humour. It means I understand humour and appreciate it. There are many things in our life I like and some I dislike. I like when everything is OK. Being happy is one way of being wise. I like to study because knowledge is useful sometimes. I'm fond of reading as it gives not only knowledge, but wonderful moments of joy and pleasure. I am neither short nor tall, so I like to wear highheeled shoes, trousers or jeans. I was born on the 25th of April 1985 in the town of Molodechno where I live now together with my parents and my younger sister (older brother). My early years which I remember badly, were typical of a child living in a town

I agree that in a small town it is often harder to find the right resources for going abroad. Some years ago I felt this kind of situation very clearly. I really wanted to see the world! The only question was how, because my financial resources were limited. Nevertheless, I think, it is the perfect situation in life. If you are eager to get something you have to think how it is possible to fulfill your dreams. I knew I was interested in writing and photography . Then came the question, how could I combine them. I examined the theme thoroughly and to my suprise there have always been many nationwide competitions for students and the prize sometimes has been a journey to somewhere. I rememember clearly that the first prize that I got for an essay was a backpack and the first journey that I won was to Brussels. To this day, thanks to these competitions, I have had the chance to visit about ten foreign countries and many of them even twice

lunch. She was tiny, several inches shorter than my five feet four inches, but her wildly curly dark hair made up a lot of the difference between our heights. I couldn't remember her name, so I smiled and nodded as she prattled about teachers and classes. I didn't try to keep up. We sat at the end of a full table with several of her friends, who she introduced to me. I forgot all their names as soon as she spoke them. They seemed impressed by her bravery in speaking to me. The boy from English, Eric, waved at me from across the room. It was there, sitting in the lunchroom, trying to make conversation with seven curious strangers, that I first saw them. They were sitting in the corner of the cafeteria, as far away from where I sat as possible in the long room. There were five of them. They weren't talking, and they weren't eating, though they each had a tray of untouched food in front of them. They weren't gawking at me, unlike most of the other students, so it was
