The influence of television

Regular long broadcasted days started when Estonia was in the Soviet Union. That time there weren't very many channels and some were Finnish. Today there are big variety of channels, both cable and public television network, but technically Estonia has gone over to digital television. Television came more popular in Estonia in the 1970's, when there were more coloured TV's published. Almost every home had at least one TV. Television wasn't just for watching different channels, but also for gaming, like Super Mario, which actually was called ,,TV game" amongst little children. Television has the potential to unite communities, provide information to allow positive cultural, social and environmental change, and to create a true global village. It also has the potential to alienate, desocialise, to promote aggressive and negative behaviours, provide negative and inappropriate role models to our children, and to create negative values such as

Should children be encouraged to do sports?

Should children be encouraged to do sports? The majority of parents do not know how to make their children understand the importance of exercising, especially because of the amout of technology no child will rather go out and play football than sitting at home and watching TV or playing video games. Should we encourage children to do sports? Firstly, doing sports is important for our health and if children do not do sports it may cause health conditions when they get older for example overweight. Choosing an exercise should be appropriated to the child's age and development. A good thing to do is to take the child for a walk, swimming pool or even to play a video game Wii. Secondly, sports makes children more active and playful, which develops their minds. Sports

Violence on tv

In today's society television plays a big role. People watch TV for many different reasons. They watch TV mainly for entertainment, but they also watch it to learn and to find out news. Violence is a major problem, it has affected people for ages. Although violence on television is not the greatest thing, it should be not be banned. In my opinion TV can be very educationaland it shouldn't be banned. Most people watch TV to get away from reality. Watching shows that depict a fantasy world are a lot more interesting to watch. People don't want to see things that happen to them on a regular bases. TV can be educating. For example, there are countries that you haven't visited. Some shows take you right in the middle of it and you don't even have to walk. People also watch TV to find out news. It's much faster than the paper and the picture is moving. In one point of view TV can be healthy. Sometimes seeing something that has happened to you

see. TV brings the world into our living room. We can learn more of other countries, customs, occupations, opinions, problems -- you can see a programme which enjoy you most: current events, documentaries, sport and educational programmes, films, plays, the arts, news, variety shows, etc. You always decide which programme is the most exciting, valuable, informative or amusing and is worth seeing. Some people think that it is a waste of time watching TV. Besides, it leads, as they say, to poor health through rushed meals, lack of sleep, eyestrain. People begin to forget the art of conversation. They sit glued to the TV screen instead of visiting. As for me I prefer watching action movies in Nakhodka TV and on holidays I enjoy all Russian canals. My family prefers the news canals and serials. Speech: TV is Little More Than a Waste of Time

Talk: TV is Little More Than a Waste of Time 4 min Television has become increasingly more popular through the years. Most Estonians have a TV or even several TV's at home. On one side, there are many people who think that television is just a waste of time and money. Some people spend hours in front of TV and it can be bad for your health. On the other side, It is thought that watching TV is a good way to relax. They like to be entertained after a long day and they believe that television can make you happier. I have to say that I understand both sides. I believe that television can have a negative effect on children because there is so much violence in movies and TV shows. Also watching TV can make you lazy. It's physically, mentally, and emotionally lazy. It requires no physical, mental, or

Television is a little more than a waste of time

Television is little more than a waste of time There is no doubt that the emergence of television is one of the most revolutionary events in the twentieth century. Almost everyone has a TV at home and watches it every day. Nowadays, people consider watching television as a sign of lazyness or boredom. I think that television has also some good sides and it is a little more than a waste of time. First of all, I think that TV is mainly a source of information. It allows people to get different kinds of information in an easy way. People can reach information in different languages and about different things just by clicking the remote control. We have channels that show information about other countries politics, economy or other news

Opinion essay

Opinion essay Television Promotes Violence Television has brought back murder into the home. There is no escape. -Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock (English film director and producer) I believe that in the previous quote Hitchcock expresses what he thinks about what the television is showing. In my opinion, he is saying that television is presenting a lot of violence and that people watching it are getting a bad influence. To begin with, I would have to agree with Hitchcock. Television really does promote violence, but there is still nothing being done. People, especially young children are still watching intense movies and cartoons. They are not understanding the reality that is before them. That is why I agree that television promotes violence. In the first place, in the past couple of years the number of violent children has increased by ten percent

mask. The other man was a typical businessman. I didn't hear what they were talking about but then I heard a loud and clear shot and I saw the businessman falling down to the ground. I yelled quietly and ran away because I understood that the man saw me watching him. I ran constantly and all the time had on the brain that I was in terrible danger. I hated that I had left my mobile phone to home to be in privacy, I needed it. I was tired to death of running. I was watching back all the time and eventually I didn't see him anymore but I kept running. When I reached home I thought that I was safe but I didn't dare to switch on lights. I let the street lighting shine in. I found my mobile but of course it was discharged, like always, when I needed it. Then I heard a horrifying knocking on the door. He had followed me. I didn't find anywhere to hide myself, because my home was almost like a glasshouse, windows everywhere

Would less TV and movie violence lead to fewer violent crimes

violent after finishing with the movie. Also there are millions and millions of action fans who love seeing action but don´t do it themselves, but if violence will be forbidden from TV it can lead to even more worse crimes because of the big fans who can´t watch their favourite entertainment anymore. To conclude, in my opinion lowering TV and movie violence would not lead to fewer violent crimes. If a person is so stupid that he wants to commit crime after watching a movie he has some serious problems with himself and can´t watch crime from TV anymore. So , violence from TV shouldn´t be lowered but people should be controlled before watching a movie.

culture. Tomatina: The 'Tomatina' tomato fight is surely the world's biggest food-fight: every year around 3000 people go in the Spanish town of Buñol to throw more than 40 tons of tomatoes at each other. It is unclear why the town's inhabitants started over 50 years ago the tradition of throwing mature tomatoes at each other, but today the event attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. Bullfighting: Along with eating tapas and watching flamenco, watching a bullfight is one of the activities that you can't miss in Spain. This is the most traditional of Spanish Fiestas. Although it's very controversial, bullfighting is Spain's oldest and best loved national sport. Soccer: Soccer is much more than just a game in Spain. It's almost a religion for some of the fans. Week after week millions of Spaniards pack themselves in local bars and passionately follow their favorite soccer teams. Antoni Gaudi: Antoni Gaudi was born in southern Catalonia in 1852

Academy, but I am yet to make up my mind concerning my future area of specialization. So, at the moment, I would like to take some time out of academics to have a different life experience, and to have time to calmly reflect on my future academic/professional orientation. To this end, I think spending a year abroad would be particularly interesting. My first language is, of course, Estonian, but I am also fluent in English. I started learning English in primary school at 3 grade and by watching movies I have improved my vocabulary a lot. I speak an intermediate level of Russian. I began learning it in fifth grade and all in all, I have learnt Russian for 6 years. I am nevertheless aware that learning a language within a classroom context is by itself, incomplete. So, in order to really be at ease in English, I feel that a cultural immersion would do me a lot of good. Through my language teachers, (whom are Estonians) I have learnt a lot about the life in America. Hence

Research studies have shown that young people frequently report body dissatisfaction, with adolescent girls experiencing more body dissatisfaction than boys. Adolescent girls generally want to weigh less, while adolescent boys want to be bigger and stronger. Physicians should regularly inquire about media involved behaviours including television watching, video watching, the use of video games, time spent in front of the computer and listening to radio programs, and types of magazines read. Those concerned about the media's negative impact on body image, self-esteem, food, dieting and eating disorders need to consider a number of different interventions such as health communication campaigns, entertainment education, media advocacy and media literacy training. Such interventions need to be evaluated with respect to the media's portrayal of the

Television

Television is a daily presence in the lives of most young children . TV is playing a very big role in their life. Television has its good side. It can be entertaining and educational, and can open up new worlds for kids, giving them a chance to travel the globe, learn about different cultures. However spending time watching TV can take time away from healthy activities like active play outside with friends, eating dinner together as a family, or reading. Letter of application

Dear Sir/Madam I am writing to apply for the writer job which was advertised last week in the Financial Times. I would like to apply for the job because the conditions are excellent and the job perfectly matches my personal and professional interests. I think I would be the perfect candidate for the job because I like writing and humanities have always been my favourite studying subjects in school. I have also been blogging since two years and reading books and watching movies have always been my two favourite hobbies. I have also taken part in various writing competitions and in my free time I write reviews for the movies. If given the job I would do it part-time as I am still attending school. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully
