This is for the reason that ’ignorance is the worst judge’ – as my partner loves to say. When people are not that highly educated or developed in critical and objective thinking, they find hard to take in new information. The goal of the diffusion model is basically to represent the level of adoption of an innovation in time. Diffusion of Innovations Theory – the basics The DOI theory has been generated or analysed for already more than 100 years. It was made known by Everett M. Rogers in 1960s. According to Rogers (1983, p. 6), ‘Diffusion is a kind of social change, defined as the process by which alteration occurs in the structure and function of a social system. Cassio leaves without talking to Othello, after what he becomes upset and moody and Iago furthers his goal of removing Cassio and Othello by suggesting that Cassio and Desdemona are involved in an affair. Desdemona's entreaties to Othello to reinstate Cassio as lieutenant add to Othello's almost immediate conviction that his wife is unfaithful. Desdemona finds him feeling unwell and offers him her handkerchief to wrap around his head, but it is too little and he lets it drop to the floor. In this chapter we introduce the reader to key issues in survey research 1.3 Breaking the ground: specification of the Research and the survey questions The first step in the survey process is to determine the research objectives. The researchers have to agree on a well-defined set of research objectives. These are then translated into a set of key research questions. For each research question one or more survey questions are then formulated, depending on the goal of the study. For example, in a general study of the population one or two general questions about well-being are enough to give a global indication of well-being. On the other hand, in a specific study of the influence of social networks on feelings of well-being among the elderly a far more detailed picture of wellbeing is needed and a series of questions has to be asked, each question measuring a specific aspect of well-being. PREFACE The Board of Directors of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is pleased to release the 2002 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. From an institutional perspective, it marks the beginning of the cycle of release, testing, review, and revision under GRIs new governance structure. The GRI was launched in 1997 as a joint initiative of the U.S. non-governmental organisation Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies (CERES) and United Nations Environment Programme with the goal of enhancing the quality, rigor, and utility of sustainability reporting. The first set of GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines appeared as an Exposure Draft in 1999. Following testing and public comment, the GRI released the June 2000 Guidelines.
