Lady with an Ermine Lady with an Ermine is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci, around 14891490. The painting is one of only four female portraits Leonardo painted. Despite sustaining much damage the surface is much rubbed, the background was lightly overpainted with unmodulated black, the upper left corner has been broken and repaired, a transparent veil on the model's head was turned into an extravagant hairdo and several fingers were grossly retouched - it is nonetheless in better condition than many of Leonardo's other paintings. The sitter's hair is confined tightly to her head under a very fine net veil with a woven border of

However, over the centuries readers have pointed to Shakespeare's sonnets as evidence of his love for a young man. Others read the same passages as the expression of intense friendship rather than sexual love.[181] At the same time, the 26 so- called "Dark Lady" sonnets, addressed to a married woman, are taken as evidence of heterosexual liaisons.[182] Portraiture Main article: Portraits of Shakespeare There is no written description of Shakespeare's physical appearance and no evidence that he ever commissioned a portrait, so the Droeshout engraving, which Ben Jonson approved of as a good likeness,[183] and his Stratford monument provide the best evidence of his appearance. From the 18th century, the desire for authentic Shakespeare portraits fuelled claims that various surviving pictures depicted Shakespeare. That demand also led to the

Kõige muljetavaldavam töö pärast tema reisi oli Portraits in a New Orleans Cotton office. (1873). Portraits in a New Orleans Cotton office.

Konrad Mägi was born at Hellenurme, Tartu on November 1, 1878. He was an Estonian landscape painter and a teacher. He has also participated in the foundation of the art association and school "Pallas". He was one of the most colour-sensitive Estonian painters of the first decades of the 20th century, and Mägi's works on motives of the island of Saaremaa are the first modern Estonian nature paintings. As well as nature paintings, he also painted flowers and portraits. He always used sky in his paintings. His favourite colour was cadmium red, which is quite light and warm red tone. Mägi received his elementary art education from the drawing courses of the German Artisans' Society of Tartu. Mägi continued his art education in Saint Petersburg, where he was expelled due to his participation in revolutionary activities. Then he spent the summer on the islands of Åland in Finland and after that moved on to Paris. There Mägi

The death of their child and then of Clélia herself causes Fabrice to retire to the Carthusian monastery, or charterhouse, of Parma, where he dies. The incongruous yet always harmonious combination of lyricism and high comedy, of realism and dreamlike atmosphere, of The Charterhouse of Parma allows the author to caricaturize the petty tyranny of post-Napoleonic Europe, to question public morality, and to assert the prerogatives of love's follies. There are subtly drawn portraits of the naive and idealistic young Fabrice del Dongo (notably at the Battle of Waterloo); of his courageous and passionate aunt, the Duchess de Sanseverina; of her lover, the benevolent Machiavellian statesman Count Mosca; and of the young and innocent Clélia Conti, the daughter of Fabrice's jailer, who falls in love with the handsome prisoner. Passion in all its forms is the novel's recurrent theme. And once again, the young hero learns the

6 slaid Stephen took on his largest project to date in May 2005, when he returned to Tokyo to make a panoramic drawing - the largest of his career (10.0m) - of the city. Two months later he drew a similarly detailed picture of Rome including the Vatican and St. Peter's Cathedral, entirely from memory. 7slaid Contrary to the popular misconception that Stephen is only interested in capturing architecture and classic american cars, he often draws portraits of celebrities and close friends in his private sketchbook. Stephen started creating caricatures of his teachers at primary school, and has since then produced many caricature 'snap shots' documenting amusing incidents encountered on his trips abroad as well. 8 slaid In January 2006 it was announced that Stephen was being named by Queen Elizabeth II as a Member of the Order of the British Empire, in recognition of his services to the art world
power to do that. Of course, this fight has its ups and downs, as usual in the stories of good and the evil. As it appears, there are no winning without loss so this is a great example of good defeating the bad. Bram Stoker’s writing is his own kind. It is simple yet complicated while describing the nature, the scenery of happening, also the looks and emotions of characters, which are actually quite fictional and the portraits are very embellished. Although there is nothing pretty in furious vampire that is ready to attack, Stroker manages to say it in words that make this even magical. Furthermore, everything he writes about the scenery is very accurate, so this story seems to be happened and it is even claimed that vampires were also real, but this likely still did not happen and Stoker used a lot folklore which makes the story even more interesting.

Lilliputians, they do not consider the notion that Gulliver is enormous compared to them and could kill them with just a flick of his finger. Gulliver has learned that their society suffers from the same flaws inherent in the English society (rebellions over relatively minor issues), but their society is more utopian compared to the English society. WIKI Lilliput and Blefuscu were intended as, and understood to be, satirical portraits of the kingdom of Great Britain and the kingdom ofFrance, respectively, as they were in the early 18th century. Only the internal politics of Lilliput are described in detail; these are parodies of British politics, in which the great central issues of the day are belittled and reduced to unimportance. For instance, the two major political parties of the day were the Whigs and the Tories. The Tories are
are Ivan Shishkin, Ivan Aivazovsky, Ilya Repin. The works by Abram Arkhipov, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Konstantin Korovin are examples of Russian Modernism from the first decades of the 20th century. The museum has also a small collection of Finnish painting from the beginning of the 20th century. The works by Alvar Cawén, Tyko Sallinen and Väinö Kunnas could be of interest as examples of Nordic painting culture. The museum has a remarkable collection of over 100 miniature portraits, painted by 17th- 19th century Russian and Western European artists on bone or copper plates. Konstantin Tooming, an art collector of Estonian origin in Moscow, donated most of them to the museum in 1972. The display of sculpture in the Museum of Foreign Art contains works mostly from Italian and Russian masters (Pietro Tenerani, Matvei Tshizhov). The subject of the works ranges from the antique mythology to the portraits of outstanding people.
Fyvie was the site of an open-air court held by Robert the Bruce, and Charles I lived there as a child. Following the Battle of Otterburn in 1390, it ceased to be a royal stronghold and instead fell into the possession of five successive families - Preston, Meldrum, Seton, Gordon and Leith - each of whom added a new tower to the castle.Inside, the castle stronghold features a great wheel stair, a display of original arms and armour, and a particularly fine collection of portraits.Manus O'Cahan and Montrose fought a successful minor battle against the Covenant Army at Fyvie Castle on August 24th 1644. Following Victorian trends, the grounds and adjoining Loch Fyvie were landscaped in the 19th century. The American industrialist Alexander Leith bought the castle in 1885. It was sold to the National Trust for Scotland in 1984 by his descendants. The castle (like many Scottish castles) is said to be haunted. A story is told that in 1920 during renovation work the

He became a friend of Caillebotte, one of the first supporters of the impressionists, and he was also backed by several art dealers and collectors. The artist's connection with these individuals is documented by a number of handsome portraits, for instance, Madame Charpentier and Her Children (1878). In the 1870s Renoir also produced some of his most celebrated impressionist scenes, including the Swing and the Moulin de la Galette (both 1876). These works show men and women together, openly and casually enjoying a society bathed in warm sunlight. Figures blend softly into one another and into their surrounding space. These paintings are pleasurable and full of human feeling.

aperture in the 16th century and the later addition of a mirror to reflect the image down onto a viewing surface. Giovanni Battista Della Porta in his 1558 book Magiae Naturalis recommended the use of this device as an aid for drawing for artists. First photographs taken with camera obscura were mostly landscapes, the reason for that was a long exposure time. And because landscapes do not move it was a perfect option. They were also used to take family photos or portraits, but it worked a little bit differently than it does nowadays. For example, you had to stay still for a long time for it not to turn out foggy. The camera was also used to capture historical events. Nowadays you can use a camera for everything; you don’t have to wait for it to focus or anything. You just need to press the button and its ready to go. You can take photos of people, make videos or art. Some people use cameras only for collecting purposes.

A Clear Midnight This is thy hour O Soul, thy free flight into the wordless, Away from books, away from art, the day erased, the lesson done, Thee fully forth emerging, silent, gazing, pondering the themes thou lovest best. Had I the Choice Had I the choice to tally greatest bards, To limn their portraits, stately, beautiful, and emulate at will, Homer with all his wars and warriors--Hector, Achilles, Ajax, Or Shakespeare's woe-entangled Hamlet, Lear, Othello--Tennyson's fair ladies, Meter or wit the best, or choice conceit to weild in perfect rhyme, delight of singers; These, these, O sea, all these I'd gladly barter, Would you the undulation of one wave, its trick to me transfer, Or breathe one breath of yours upon my verse, And leave its odor there.
His father, Henry James, Sir was an imminent philosopher and reformer, and his brother, William James, was to be the famous philosopher and psychologist. His early up bringing was usual--he was exposed to the culture influence of Europe at a very early age. James was a voluminous writer. His whole life was a long career of continual fertile peoductivity. The quantity of work filled up a good many volumes--novels, travel papers, critical assays, literary portraits, plays, autobiographies, and a series of critical prefaces on the art of fiction. In addition, he was a copious letters writer and left a number of notebooks. The creative life of Henry James can be divided in to three distinctive periods. In the first period (18651882), he produced a number of novels, among which, the most important include The American, Daisy Miller which won him international fame and which reveals James' fascination with his "international theme", and The portrait

Three generations of Joad's family are depicted in the book, Steinberg does not idealize them. They are illiterate, very suspicious, ignorat, quick tempered and crude- unsophistaicaded. However there are good qualities too, family comes first with them, there is wisdom, generosity, courage and persistance. Steinberg paints the portraits with ove and humour. The first generation we have Grandpa and Grandma. The founders of the family, they die at the end of the journey, their death is symbolical. Grandpa is lusty and indescent. And grandma is very religious and bios and sufferind all the time. Pa, Ma-father and mother, Pa is the official head of the family, has worked hard all his life to support his large family, but he hasn't been very succesful at it. a certain air of living with nature. There were influences from Impressionism (Paul Burman), Expressionism (the early works of Eduard Wiiralt and Ado Vabbe), Cubism and Constructivism (Märt Laarman). In the Thirties we may observe a turn towards greater realistic expression, connected with Estonia and Estonians. Estonian Realism branched out into several areas: representation of town life (Andrus Johani), rural and coastal pictures (Eerik Haamer and Johannes Võerahansu) and psychological portraits (Johannes Greenberg). Estonian symphonic music, the sustaining axis of musical production, had accepted less Western influence than the other arts, for example in literature, where French Impressionism, German Expressionism and Scandinavian Realism did “put in a word”. The modest achievements in the so-called great music were due to the fact that professional music began to develop much later; the circle of symphonists started to
give your mother-in-law a few hints, when this desirable event takes place, as to the advantage of holding her tongue; and if you can compass it, do cure the younger girls of running after officers. And, if I may mention so delicate a subject, endeavour to check that little something, bordering on conceit and impertinence, which your lady possesses." "Have you anything else to propose for my domestic felicity?" "Oh! yes. Do let the portraits of your uncle and aunt Phillips be placed in the gallery at Pemberley. Put them next to your great-uncle the judge. They are in the same profession, you know, only in different lines. As for your Elizabeth's picture, you must not have it taken, for what painter could do justice to those beautiful eyes?" "It would not be easy, indeed, to catch their expression, but their colour and shape, and the eyelashes, so remarkably fine, might be copied."
finally changed and is now willing to risk his life for a good cause. WATCH YOUR STEP T h e Resurrection can be a potential misstep for a returning hero who may be walk ing a narrow sword-bridge from one world to the next. Hitchcock often uses heights at this point in a story to stand for the potential failure to return from the Special World alive. In North hy Northwest, C a r y Grant's and Eva M a r i e Saint's characters end up hanging from the stone portraits on M o u n t Rushmore, keeping the audience in suspense about their ultimate fates until the last possible moment. T h e climaxes of Hitchcock's Vertigo, Saboteur, and To Catch a Thief all take heroes to high places for a final struggle between life and death. Sometimes great drama comes from heroes dropping the ball at the last m o ment just before reaching their goal. T h e heroes of Quest for Fire come back to their
