1) Stop, postpone, admit, avoid , imagine , finish, consider, deny , risk, fancy. Example: Suddenly everybody stopped talking.
2) Give up, put off, go on / carry on, keep or keep on. Example: I've given up reading newspapers.
3) verb + somebody + -ing Example: I can't imagine George riding a motorbike.
4) having done/ stolen /said Example: They admitted stealing the money .
5) admit/deny /suggest that Example: They denied that they had stolen the money.
CHANGE IN THE MEANING :
1) Remember Example: 1. I know I locked the door . I clearly remember locking it. 2. Please remember to post the letter .
2) Regret Example: 1. I regret saying what I said. I shouldn't have said it. 2. We regret to inform you that we cannot offer you the job.
3) Go on Example: 1. We need to change. We can't go on living like this. 2. After discussing the economy , the president then went on to talk about foreign policy .
4) begin, start, continue, intend , bother Example: It has started raining.
5) Try to and try -ing (also just try) Example: 1. I was very tired. I tried to keep my eyed open , but I couldn't. 2. Try pressing the green button . 3. These cakes are delicious. You should try one.
6) Need to, need -ing Example: 1. I need to take more exercise. 2. Do you think my jacket needs cleaning?
NO CHANGE IN THE MEANING:
7) Help, can't help Example: 1. Can you help me (to) move this table? 2. She tried to be serious, but she couldn't help laughing.
8) Like/love/hate (repeated actions ) Example: 1. Stephanie hates flying. 2. Stephanie hates to fly. (alerady existing or existed situation) Example: Do you like being a student ?
9) Would like/love/hate/ prefer Example: 1. I'd love to meet your family.
10) Would like/love/hate/prefer to have done Example: I'd love to have gone to the party , but it was impossible.
1) Offer, decide, hope, deserve, promise, agree, plan, manage, afford , threaten, refuse, arrange, fail, forget , learn. Example: It was late , so we decided to take a taxi home.
2) Seem , appear, tend, pretend , claim . Example: They seem to have plenty of money.
3) dare (also without to ) Example: I wouldn't dare (to) tell him.
4) ask, decide, know, remember, forget, explain , learn, understand , wonder + what/whether/how etc. + to. Also show/ tell /ask/advise/teach somebody what/how/where to do smth. Example: 1. We asked how to get to the station . 2. Ask Jack. He'll tell you what to do.
5) want, ask, help, would like, expect , beg, mean , would prefer. (verb + to or verb + object + to) Example: 1. We expected to be late. 2. We expected Dan to be late.
6) tell, remind, force , encourage, teach, enable , order, warn, invite, persuade , get. Example: Can you remind me to phone Sam tomorrow?
7) advise, recommend, allow (verb + -ing or verb + object + to) Example: 1. I wouldn't advise/recommend staying in that hotel . 2. I wouldn't advise recommend anybody to stay in that hotel.
8) make, let are used WITHOUT to. Example: Hot Weather makes me feel tired.

with a difference in meaning · Can`t bear/ stand, hate, like, love, prefer When these verbs are used with the infinitive, they refer to more specific situations. When they are used with the gerund, they refer to more general situations. The difference in meaning is very slight. I prefer to work on a computer than to write by hand. I can not bear listening to her complaining all the time. · Remember, forget, regret, stop, try remember/forget + -ing refers to an action that happened before the moment of remembering/ forgetting. remember/forget + infinitive refers to an action after the moment of remembering/ forgetting. I remember seeing you somewhere before. (= that I have seen you) Did you remember to lock the door? She had completely forgotten telling him about her brother. I forgot to give Sally the book. · Regret + -ing means be sorry about an action in the past.
