Does water consumption matter?

we can drink. The amount of freshwater is rapidly decreasing. The water we have now is all we will ever have, we cannot produce anymore. Moving on to the importance of water. There wouldn't be any life on Earth without water. Water cools the Earth and all plants, animals and humans need clean water to survive. To sum up, water is our most important resource and it is obvious that we must save and protect our water. I would like to persuade my audience to conserve our water supply. That can be done easily, like turning off water while brushing teeth and spending a minute less in the shower. Thank you for listening.

Before I go to sleep by S.J Watson

Book review I am reading a book called ,,Before I go to sleep" by S.J Watson. This book has 384 pages and I have read 50 of them. The book is about Christine, who loses her memory when she goes to sleep and has to start afresh every time she wakes up. It's quite hard seeing it through her own eyes as each day she wakes up and can't figure out where she is. Everything has to be explained to her by a man who tries to persuade her that he's her husband. She begins to keep a journal, writing down what happens to her each day as recommended by her doctor who calls her each day to remind her of her journal and where it's hidden. Each day she reads what's previously written in her journal, and is extremely confused as she can never remember the previous entries. I think that in the end of the book Christine will get her memory back, and she will realize that her husbend Ben is bad guy

Its better to have any religion then to be atheist

its better to have any religion then to be atheist. We live in the 21th century where democracy and freedom of different kinds dominate in most parts of the world. Freedom of worship is not an exception, therefore people can believe or not believe in anything they want. According to this many people decided not to have any religion at all and called themselves ,,atheists". These people believe in their own physical and moral forces only, but now and here i will try to persuade the reader that having a God or some deity is better than to be godless. First reason, why it is better to be a religous person than atheist, is your spiritual and mental safety because if you belive in God , you will always have someone to rely on even in the worst situations, and you will never give up as you would probably do, if you stayed against the misery alone, on your own. Secondly, i would like to point out that with having a God to believe in your every...

What Pleases Me about Life in Estonia

What Pleases Me about Life in Estonia Many peole have said, that they do not like living in Estonia. I am one of them, although many people have tried to persuade me to think otherwise. I have loved on both sides of Europe both on the eastern and on the northern part. But there are, of course, some advantages in living in Estonia, too. The first one is definately my family and friends. It is good to live in a country when you know, that you have your loved ones by your side. They can help you in every situation or even when you have nothing to do and you need some entertainment. Also, when your problems seem to grow over your

British History KT küsimused ja vastused

12. Imagine this situation: you are at home, just about to have lunch, when there is a knock at the door. It is a British friend of yours, not a very close friend, but closer than a mere acquaintance. He or she has come to pay you an unexpected visit. You suggest that your friend comes in and stays for lunch. But your friend is embarrassed to find that he or she has called at a mealtime and refuses invitation. You want to persuade your friend to change his or her mind. Here are two possible ways of doing this": A) Please stay. We don't have much, I'm afraid, but we'd be honoured. Whatever we have is yours. B) This is no trouble at all. There's plenty of food. Don't think twice about it. We're used to people popping in. Which of these two do you think would be a more successful way to persuade a British person? A or B? Why? 13. British people like to `dress down' on Sundays. What might be the reason?

James Watt

For hours James would take his toys to pieces and the built new things from the parts to his own design. One day James noticed that, when the water in the kettle was boiling, the power of the steam moved the lid up and down, and when he held a cold spoon over the steam, it quickly turned back into drops of water. James was sent to a private school. He became good at languages as well as mathematics. In his spare time he began to make experiments. He managed to persuade an instrument-maker to take him as an apprentice. He found his training very hard and tiring as he had to work from early morning till late at night. However, he gained a fair knowledge of the trade and became skilled in the use of tools. When James returned to Scotland he began mathematical-instrument maker to Glasgow University. He also made musical instruments. The results of experiments showed him that Newcomen´s steam engine was founded on the wrong principle

The Lord of the Rings Short Summary

The Lord of the Rings SHORT SUMMARY Bilbo Baggins throws a party for himself and his protégé, Frodo. At the party, Bilbo announces that he is leaving his home to his heir, Frodo. He returns home and is met by his close friend, the wizard Gandalf. Gandalf insists that Bilbo remove the Ring that he has owned since the events of the previous adventure, chronicled in The Hobbit, and give the ring to his young heir. The Ring has special powers, the most obvious of which is to make the wearer invisible. Then Bilbo disappears. For many years Frodo lives in Bilbo's home at Bag End. Just like Bilbo, Frodo appears not to he aged. In his fifties, he grows restless. One day Gandalf comes to Frodo and tells him that he is in danger. It seems that the Ring originally belonged to Sauron, the Dark Lord. Sauron wants the Ring back so that he can conquer the world. Sauron is using Gollum, an evil hobbit who also wa...

Michelangelo

Michelangelo once said to the biographer of artists Giorgio Vasari, "What little good I have within me came from the pure air of your native Arezzo and the chisels and hammers." Michelangelo's desire to become an artist was initially opposed by his father. After a period of grammatics studies with the humanist Francesco da Urbino, Michelangelo continued his apprenticeship in painting with Domenico Ghirlandaio and in sculpture with Bertoldo di Giovanni. Michelangelo's father managed to persuade Ghirlandaio to pay the young artist, which was unheard of at the time. In fact, most apprentices paid their masters for the education. Impressed, Domenico recommended him to the ruler of the city, Lorenzo de' Medici, and Michelangelo left his workshop in 1489. From 1490 to 1492, Michelangelo attended Lorenzo's school and was influenced by many prominent people who modified and expanded his ideas on art. During his life, he made different sculptures and paintings. All of them are famous.

Writting a summary

Writting a summary I read the following sections of the booklet „Europe. A journal for young people“. The booklet is listed in 7 sections:“ Europe in everday life“; „The European Union- what does this mean exactly?“; „How does the European Union work?“; „What exactly does the EU do?“; „Europe moves on_ the enlargement of the European Union“; „Europe and the wider world“ and „The future of Europe“. ‘Europe is somewhere else.’ This provocative statement opens the first chapter of „Europe. A journal for young people“. It is, of course, not true. As EU citizens, Europe is our home. It affects our lives in many areas. For example: money (euro is a common currency); flying has become much cheaper and safer; the police forces in the EU work closely together and European environmental protection lays down common standards. The second sections provides information about what does the European Union exactly means and when did 28 countries come ...

Northanger Abbey

Isabella immediately noticed the captain and despite her engagement with James, started flirting with him. Catherine soon noticed something weird going on between Isabella and the captain. She spoke to Henry Tilney on the subject, regretting his brother's evident partiality for Miss Thrope, and entreating him to make known her prior engagement. "He does know it," was Henry's answer. "Does he? then why does he stay here? Why do not you persuade him to go away?" "Persuasion is not at command; but pardon me, if I cannot even endeavour to persuade him. I have myself told him that Miss Thrope is engaged. He knows what he is about, and must be his own master." So Henry refused to talk to his brother because he knew that Isabella was as guilty as him. Soon, Catherine left with the Tilney's for Northanger Abbey. She imagined the abbey to resemble the haunted ruins of the Gothic novels she loved but Northanger Abbey

With that Jacob leaves and Edward returns from where he was waiting just outside the house. Edward asks about the bloody knife Bella accidentally left on the counter after her bleach- filled cleaning frenzy from when Jacob cut himself, and she tells him what happened. Edward takes out a large envelope that he retrieved from her mail and hands it to her. Bella's application from Dartmouth was accepted without Bella's knowledge that Edward had even sent it in. Edward tries to persuade her to spend a year at school in an effort to put off her change for as long as possible, but Bella remains unmoved. Her mind is made up and even waiting until graduation seemed too risky to her. Bella mentions to Edward about the missing clothes and pillows from her room and asks him to ask Alice where she put them, but he is completely confused. He says that Alice hadn't taken her things. That's when the pieces click into place and he realizes that the same intruder

Martin Luther King Jr. ''I have a dream'' kõne analüüs

racism was an issue that needed to be solved and it changed how people treated each other. Martin Luther King’s speech ‘’I have a dream’’ was very successful, but it wasn’t only because it had a powerful message. The way it was written and how he presented it played a huge role in its effectiveness. Martin Luther King used a wide variety of rhetorical and literary devices in his speech. Rhetorical devices are used to persuade and evoke emotions in the audience. The use of metaphors can already be seen in the following sentence: ‘’One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination’’. The metaphorical use of the words ‘’chains’’ and ‘’manacles’’ in that statement help the audience to visualize the impact of discrimination and segregation. The black

The features of Metaphysical poetry are: · The use of conceits (Figures of speech which draw a comparison between two strikingly different things. Metaphysical poets made wide use of conceits in which the comparison was drawn with subjects from fields such as astronomy, mathematics and geography.): comparison between the objects which at first glance seem to have nothing in common; · The argumentative quality of the love poems, in which the poet tries to persuade his lover to share his point of view; · The dramatic quality of the language, which often seems to be one side of a dialogue between the poet and his lover, or God, or himself; · The wide range of subjects from which the poet draws his imagery. Metaphysical poets used, for example, the areas of science, travel, medicine, alchemy and philosophy to create original imagery. This is in stark contrast with much of

He also wins several hundred dollars playing bridge. This success, combined with reading a romantic chronicle of an English gentlemen traveling abroad, infects Cohn with wanderlust. Upon returning to Paris, he comes to Jake's office to persuade him to travel to South America with him, offering to pay for the entire trip. He worries that he is not living life to the fullest. But had the century of evolution through natural selection appeared only in outline form, it might have been many more years in winning general acceptance. The collected evidence of The Origin of Species was sufficient to persuade most biologists that this was the key that they had been looking for. Quite a few scientists held out, notably Louis Agassiz, but the younger generation of students coming into the field seem almost without exception to agree to the adopted theory. Within a few decades, evolution through natural selection was a fundamental paradigm of biological thought. The development of biology through the century since that time has not essentially altered the situation. Alot of changes have

They accept and improve some bills, but reject most of them. For a bill becomes a law it must be read, studied in committees, commented on and amended in the Senate or House chamber in which it was introduced. It is then voted upon. If it passes, it is sent to the other house where a similar procedure occurs. Members of both houses work together in "conference committees" if the chambers have passed different versions of the same bill. Groups who try to persuade Congressmen to vote for or against a bill are known as "lobbies". When both houses of Congress pass a bill on which they agree, it is sent to the president for his signature. If President is disapproves, he vetoes and refusing to sign it, and sends it back to Congress. President's objection are read and debated. To overcome the President's veto, the bill must get a 2/3 majority in each chamber. CULTURE

Writing in the Business World

UNIT 1 Writing in the Business World Writing gives structure and form to our ideas. In the business world this is done for a purpose: to persuade, recommend, offer advice, give an order, etc. The business text must therefore be easily and quickly read and its message must be understood exactly as intended. If you learn to recognize and avoid the more common errors of information control, grammar and style, you will achieve this aim. You will write more confidently and more correctly if you check everything you write. Pay particular attention to the following:

There is no such thing as a totally sustainable tourism

Sustaining Tourism (2013) also suggest that destination can work towards sustainability, Belize is doing the same. Country is using good reputation of sustainable tourism, to attract tourists; it can be seen as a negative side, because with large scale of mass tourism, sustainability is hard to reach or preserve (Mowforth and Munt, 2009). It can be considered even as a "greenwashing". According to Sobotta, et al. (2009) greenwashing is seen as any attempt to persuade customers that company or government promotes green-based environmental enterprises or images but actually operates in a way that is damaging to the environment. Belize is using its good reputation to host different sustainability congresses, and this action is good promotion to country as sustainable destination. Moreover, Higinio and Munt (1993) suggests that Belize has hosted many sustainable tourism conferences in

Vana Kreeka muusika

before when having heard my pleadings from far away you left your father's golden palace and yoked to your shining chariot swift, lovely sparrows that brought you over the dark earth, moving their thick-feathered wings through the sky's bright ether. Quickly they arrived; and then you, Goddess, with a smile on your unaging face you asked me what is wrong with me this time and why I am calling you again and what my wild heart wishes again. "Again whom must I persuade into the harness of your love? Who isn't treating you well, Sappho? For if now runs away from you, soon will pursue you, if not accepting gifts from you, soon will offer, if not in love with you, soon will love even if you no more care." Come to me now again, release me from this pain, everything my spirit longs to have fulfilled, fulfill, and you be my ally.19 19 http://homoecumenicus.com/ioannidis_sappho_aphrodite.htm 16

The Witch Trials in Salem

His letter probably did have some effect but unfortunately it did not save his life. Elizabeth Proctor was spared because she was pregnant but the others were hanged on August 19. Before John Proctor died he said the Lords Prayer (the `Our Father)', without making any mistakes. Witches were not supposed to be able to do that and he sowed seeds of doubt in many people's minds. Some people demanded that Burroughs should be set free but Cotton Mather managed to persuade the people to go ahead and hang him. Giles Corey was pressed to death on 19 September. Finally on 22 September Martha Corey, Mary East, Alice Parker, Mary Parker, Ann Updater, Wilmot Reed, Margaret Scott and Samuel Waddell were hanged. The end However public opinion was now turning against the witch trials. So many people were being accused of witchcraft it started to seem absurd. People could not believe that so many of their neighbours were witches

Dillman INTERNATIONAL HANDBOOK OF SURVEY METHODOLOGY ÜLESANNE Õppeaines: SISSEJUHATUS ERIALASSE Tehnoloogia ja ringmajanduse instituut Õpperühm: Juhendaja: Tallinn 2021 TABLE OF CONTENTS 2 1 THE CORNERSTONES OF SURVEY RESEARCH 1.1 Introduction The idea of conducting a survey is deceptively simple. It involves identifying a specific group or category of people and collecting information from some of them in order to gain insight into what the entire group does or thinks; however, undertaking a survey inevitably raises questions that may be difficult to answer. How many people need to be surveyed in order to be able to describe fairly accurately the entire group? How should the people be selected? What questions should be asked and how should they be posed to...

English as a Global Language

Several possibilities can be envisaged. A significant change in the balance of power – whether political, economic, technological or cultural – could affect the standing of other languages so that they become increasingly attractive, and begin to take over functions currently assumed by English. Pressures arising out of the need to express community identity might disrupt the ability of English to function as a global language. There are also economic arguments which might persuade a country to reduce its investment in the English language. A country might see its economic future as operating more on a regional than a global level, and thus devote extra resources to fostering a local lingua franca. Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Russian, and German are other examples of languages which have a traditional presence within a number of geographically adjacent countries. (Cristal) The need for intelligibility and the need for identity often pull people – and countries

Jane Austen

If I had known as much this morning I certainly would not have called on him. It is very unlucky; but as I have actually paid the visit, we cannot escape the acquaintance now." The astonishment of the ladies was just what he wished; that of Mrs. Bennet perhaps surpassing the rest; though, when the first tumult of joy was over, she began to declare that it was what she had expected all the while. "How good it was in you, my dear Mr. Bennet! But I knew I should persuade you at last. I was sure you loved your girls too well to neglect such an acquaintance. Well, how pleased I am! and it is such a good joke, too, that you should have gone this morning and never said a word about it till now." "Now, Kitty, you may cough as much as you choose," said Mr. Bennet; and, as he spoke, he left the room, fatigued with the raptures of his wife. "What an excellent father you have, girls!" said she, when the door was shut. "I do not

Aforismid

Live your life so that when you die, you're smiling and everyone around you is crying. - Is love supposed to last throughout all time, or is it like trains changing at random stops. If I loved her, how could I leave her? If I felt that way then, how come I don't feel anything now? - If you're upset, call me. I won't guarentee I'll make you laugh but I can cry with you. If you ever feel like you need to run away, call me. I won't guarentee I'll persuade you to stay but I can run with you. But, if one day you call and there's no answer....I might need you. - If I reach for your hand, will you hold it? If I hold out my arms, will you hug me? If I go for you lips, will you kiss me? If I capture your heart, will you love me? - Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you only have one life to live and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

White Paper is an authoritative report or guide that informs readers concisely about a complex issue and presents the issuing body's philosophy on the matter. It is meant to help readers understand an issue, solve a problem, or make a decision. The initial British term concerning a type of government-issued document has proliferated—taking a somewhat new meaning in business. In business, a white paper is closer to a form of marketing presentation, a tool meant to persuade customers and partners and promote a product or viewpoint. [1][2][3] White papers may be considered grey literature. Green Paper In the European Union, the United Kingdom, Commonwealth, Hong Kong and the United States,[1] a green paper is a tentative government report and consultation document of policy proposals for debate and discussion. A green paper represents the best that the government can propose on the given issue, but, remaining uncommitted, it is able without loss of face to

E.M.Remarque "Läänerindel Muutuseta"

Whereas the older men will forget the trenches and the death, the young men have nothing definite on which to focus thoughts of the future. Their prewar lives are vague, unreal dreams with no relevance to the world that has been created by the war. Paul feels utterly cut off from humanity; his only feelings of love and loyalty are those that he shares with his friends and fellow soldiers. As a result, Paul tries to see them in the best possible light. He thinks about Müller's attempt to persuade the dying Kemmerich to give him his boots and tries to convince himself that Müller was being reasonable rather than inconsiderate. During training, Paul and his classmates were taught that patriotism requires suppressing individuality and personality, a sacrifice that civilians do not require of even the lowest class of servants. Corporal Himmelstoss, formerly a postman, trained Paul's platoon. He was a

Teaduslik revolutsioon

remember, this is well before the idea of gravity had been discovered by Newton. The Copernican system offended the medieval sense that the universe was an affair between God and man. Copernicus knew it too. The ultimate authority, of course, was the Holy Writ. That his contemporaries would be alarmed by the heliocentric theory bothered Copernicus. So, he decided to publish his findings in 1543, the year of his death. Aware that he could not persuade the traditional thinking of the time, Copernicus made a specific appeal to mathematicians. It was, he thought, only the mathematician who could understand and appreciate the order and essential simplicity of his system. Copernicus never expected that his findings would appeal to the nonspecialist. But in 1572 something happened. A new star appeared in the constellation of Cassiopeia. The new star was observed by the
