1)Main machinery On a ship, the engine room, or ER, is the propulsion machinery spaces of the vessel. To increase the safety and damage survivability of a vessel, the machinery necessary for operations may be segregated into various spaces. The engine room is one of these spaces, and is generally the largest physical compartment of the machinery space. The engine room houses the vessel's prime mover, usually some variations of a heat engine - diesel engine, gas or steam turbine. On some ships, the machinery space may comprise more than one engine room, such as forward and aft, or port or starboard engine rooms, or may be simply numbered. 1.1)Main engine The engine room of a motor vessel typically contains several engines for different purposes. Main, or propulsion engines are used to turn the ship's propeller and move the ship through the water. They typically burn diesel oil or heavy fuel oil, and may be able to switch between the two

Turbo ja kompressor(inglise keeles)

Since the invention of the internal combustion engine, automotive engineers, speed junkies and racecar designers have been searching for ways to boost its power. One way to add power is to build a bigger engine. But bigger engines, which weigh more and cost more to build and maintain, are not always better. Another way to add power is to make a normal-sized engine more efficient. You can accomplish this by forcing more air into the combustion chamber. More air means more fuel can be added, and more fuel means a bigger explosion and greater horsepower. A turbo/supercharged engine produces more power overall than the same engine without the charging. Both superchargers and turbochargers do this. The difference between the two devices is their source of energy . TURBOCHARGER

TOPICS FOR SPEAKING CYLINDER FRAME The cylinder section of the engine consists of a number of cylinder blocks, which are tightened together with the engine frame and the bedplate by means of through- going stay bolts. Two central bores, one at the top and one halfway down inside the cylinder block, enclose the cylinder liner. The upper part of the cylinder block forms part of the cooling water space around the central part of the cylinder liner, whereas the lower part forms the scavenge air space. A central bore in the bottom of the cylinder block encloses the piston rod stuffing box. The bottom is double with a hollow

That's more than three motor vehicles for every four people! Automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, and buses drove nearly 3.0 trillion miles in 2005. That's almost one-twelfth the distance to the nearest star beyond the solar system. It's like driving to the sun and back 13,440 times. Picture 2.11. Energy use for transportation Gasoline is used mainly by cars, motorcycles, and light trucks; diesel is used mainly by heavier trucks, buses, and trains. Together, gasoline and diesel make up 86 percent of all the energy used in transportation. There is currently a push to develop vehicles that run on fuels other than petroleum products, or on blended fuels. Today, there are some vehicles that run on electricity, natural gas, propane, and ethanol. Hybrid-electric vehicles combine the benefits of gasoline engines and electric motors, reducing the amount of fuel required for moving a vehicle.

conditions and on the phase diagram of the petroleum mixture. An oil well produces predominantly crude oil, with some natural gas dissolved in it. Because the pressure is lower at the surface than underground, some of the gas will come out of solution and be recovered (or burned) as associated gas or solution gas. A gas well produces predominantly natural gas. However, because the underground temperature and pressure are higher than at the surface, the gas may contain heavier hydrocarbons such as pentane, hexane, and heptane in the gaseous state. At surface conditions these will condense out of the gas to form natural gas condensate, often shortened to condensate. Condensate resembles petrol in appearance and is similar in composition to some volatile light crude oils. The proportion of light hydrocarbons in the petroleum mixture varies greatly among

They do make a statement by being compact and fuel efficient, but also carry various issues. Why to purc has e a hybrid c ar? 1. Made of lightweight materials hybrids are small in size. The engine is designed to be fuel efficient. When the car halts at a signal, the engine will automatically shut down and restart when the car shifts into gear. 2. These cars have the advantage of being powered by a gasoline engine and an electric motor that takes care of acceleration. 3. The batteries of the electric motor recharge automatically by harnessing the kinetic energy produced during braking. 4. Hybrid car engines produce less emission, give better

While the oil price is rising then the purchases for new cars have been falling. Although there has been arise in diesel engine cars 6,5 per cent and petrol cars declined 5,3 per cent. Consumers are purchasing more diesel engine cars which have smaller fuel consumption. For that reason drivers can save money on the fuel.(http://academic.mintel.com E) Political Drivers are more likely to buy a small car with a smaller engine; then they will have lower taxes for their vehicle. (e.g. geothermal and hydropower), others need additional development to become competitive without subsidies. This can be helped by improvements to sub-components, such as electric generators. The table shows an overview of costs of various renewable energy technologies. For comparison with the prices in the table, electricity production from a conventional coal-fired plant costs about 4¢/kWh. Though in some G8 nations the cost can be significantly higher at 7.88p (~15¢/kWh).Achieving further cost reductions as indicated in the table below requires further technology development, market deployment, an increase in production capacities to mass production levels, and of the establishment of an emissions trading scheme and/or carbon tax which would attribute a cost to each unit of carbon emitted; thus reflecting the true cost of energy production by fossil fuels which then could be used to lower the cost/kWh of these renewable energies.

Each restraint device is typically activated with one or more pyrotechnic devices, commonly called an initiator or electric match. The electric match, which consists of an electrical conductor wrapped in a combustible material, activates with a current pulse between 1 to 3 amperes in less than 2 milliseconds. When the conductor becomes hot enough, it ignites the combustible material, which initiates the gas generator. In a seat belt pre-tensioner, this hot gas is used to drive a piston that pulls the slack out of the seat belt. In an airbag, the initiator is used to ignite solid propellant inside the airbag inflater. The burning propellant generates inert gas which rapidly inflates the airbag in approximately 20 to 30 milliseconds. An airbag must inflate quickly in order to be fully inflated by the time the forward-traveling occupant reaches its outer surface. Typically, the decision to deploy

Usage in Cooking: Biogas can be used in kitchens, as fuel for ovens and stoves using LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). Usage in Lighting: Biogas can be used in LPG-using lamps by burning directly and also by transforming into electricity. The efficiency level is low like 3% when burning. Preparing Hot Water: We can use biogas to provide hot water at home and industrial need and also for geyser and other water heater systems. Usage in Internal Combustion Engine: Biogas can be used in vehicles as an alternative fuel to common energy sources. Especially in Europe, this kind of applications is encouraged by several projects. Electricity Production: Especially in medium and large facilities, biogas is used in electric generators. The electric transformation efficiency of biogas is about 22%- 40%. analog environment to their digital machines. There are books about analog design and books about microprocessor design. This book attempts to get at the problems encountered in connecting the two together. This book came about because of a comment made by someone about my first book (Embedded Microprocessor Systems: Real World Design): “it needs more analog interfacing information.” I felt that adding this material to that book would cause the book to lose focus. However, the more I thought about it, the more I thought that a book aimed at interfacing the real world to micro- processors could prove valuable. This book is the result. I hope it proves useful. ix Introduction Modern electronic systems are increasingly digital: digital microprocessors, digital logic, digital interfaces. Affirming these findings in 2013, the IPCC stated that the largest driver of global warming is carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil fuel combustion, cement production, and land use changes such as deforestation. Its 2013 report states:Human influence has been detected in warming of the atmosphere and the ocean, in changes in the global water cycle, in reductions in snow and ice, in global mean sea level rise, and in changes in some climate extremes. Railgun

Because long rails pose design challenges, most rail guns use strong currents -- on the order of a million amps -- to generate tremendous force. The projectile, under the influence of the Lorentz force, accelerates to the end of the rails opposite the power supply and exits through an aperture. The circuit is broken, which ends the flow of current. 1.4 How a railgun would work on a military ship in the future Rail guns require tremendous currents to fire projectiles at speeds of Mach 5 or higher. This presents problems for a traditional battleship because power cannot be diverted from the ship's propulsion system. In the Navy's next-generation battleship, the all-electric DD(X), producing this kind of current will be possible. To launch a rail gun projectile, power would be diverted from the ship's engine to the gun turret. The gun would be fired, up to six rounds per minute, for as long as required. Then power would be shifted back to the engine.

The Cataclysmic Death of Stars

Usually the result is a neutron star, a stellar cinder so dense a teaspoon would weigh more than a billion tons. In the most massive stars the collapse leaves only a voracious pit called a black hole. At this point, Woosley believes--before the collapse somehow turns into an explosion--some supernovas unleash a blast of gamma rays. Woosley's interest in these bursts goes back decades, when they were so mysterious that over a hundred more or less serious ideas about their cause were in play, from "starquakes" to the exhaust plumes of alien spacecraft. But his fascination deepened in the early 1990s, when a spacecraft called the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory showed that gamma-ray bursts originate far beyond our galaxy. To appear as bright as they do, they had to be more energetic than anyone had imagined--far brighter than supernovas, Woosley's first love. They also needed a source of energy far beyond what any ordinary star could provide. Perhaps

The primary fatty acids in the oil are oleic and linoleic (typically 90% unsaturated fatty acids), with the remainder consisting of palmitic and stearic saturated fatty acids. The primary use is as a salad and cooking oil or in margarine. In the USA, sunflower oils account for 8% or less of these markets, but in many sunflower-producing countries, sunflower is the preferred and the most commonly used oil. High oleic sunflower oil (over 80% oleic acid) was developed commercially in 1985 and has higher oxidated stability than conventional oil. It has expanded the application of sunflower oils for frying purposes, tends to enhance shelf life of snacks, and could be used as an ingredient of infant formulas requiring stability. B. Meal: Non-dehulled or partly dehulled sunflower meal has been substituted successfully for soybean meal in isonitrogenous (equal protein) diets for ruminant animals, as well as for swine and poultry feeding. Characteristics of waves Waves produced by a strong wind Waves caused by a strong wind over a deep sea and for a long time 4 The shape of waves can be described by a sinusoidal form of a mathematical sine function. The following values are important for a quantitative description of the energy stored and the power of the waves: Wave high h is the difference between wave crest and through. The higher the wave is, the more of energy is stored in it in form of potential energy. @hD = m The wave length l is the distance between two wave crests. The shorter the wavelength the more of energy (potential) can be transported if wave high and velocity stay constant. @lD = m The period of waves is the time between two following wave crests over a fix point over the ground.

A theoretical overall heat transfer coefficient was calculated using different sources of literature and then they were compared to experimental coefficients. The difference is explained based on the conditions of equations and experimental setup. The results showed that overall heat transfer coefficient changed as expected, it was bigger with higher flow rates, which directly results in higher Reynolds numbers, and higher agitation rates. Some anomalies did occur, but they can be explained with atypical details in experimental setup. 3 4 Table of Contents Table of Contents................................................................................................. 5 1Introduction.....................................................................................................
