Intro duc tio n
· Care for the environment?
· Want to save the planet?
· Then you must think in terms of fuel efficiency,
non-polluting, and eco-friendly transport.
· The answer doesn't lay completely in purchasing
and using a hybrid car. They do make a statement
by being compact and fuel efficient, but also carry
various issues.
Why to purc has e a hybrid
c ar?
1. Made of lightweight materials hybrids are small in size.
The engine is designed to be fuel efficient. When the car
halts at a signal, the engine will automatically shut down
and restart when the car shifts into gear.
2. These cars have the advantage of being powered by a
gasoline engine and an electric motor that takes care of
acceleration.
3. The batteries of the electric motor recharge
automatically by harnessing the kinetic energy produced
during braking.
4. Hybrid car engines produce less emission, give better
mileage, idle less, and are fuel efficient.
Why to purc has e a hybrid
c ar?
5. The aerodynamic design reduces drag and the tires are made of
a special rubber that reduces friction.
6. The battery has high capacity and is made of nickel-metal-
hydride. The battery can run the hybrid when called for.
7. The power-train technology enables using two power sources
and enhances fuel efficiancy.
8. There are many choices. You can have a hybrid from Honda,
Ford, Toyota, GMC, and Chevrolet.
9. If your transportation of choice is a hybrid then the US
Government will applaud your choice by giving you significant
tax breaks. (USA only)
Hybrid te c hno lo g y
Basically a normal, fuel
efficient car that has two
motors - an electric motor
and a gasoline powered
motor.
It also has a special system
to capture braking energy to
store in an onboard battery
(recharge). Hybrid
technology is most efficient
when electric and gas
energy are equally utilized.
Generally this ideal lies
between 30-40 miles per
hour.
Why no t to purc has e a
hybrid?
· Even tho hybrids seem to be the solution to "go green"and save the
enviroment, its a long way from it.
· Hybrids are not zero-emisson vehicles.
· High tech parts use various rare alloys and metals.
· Batteries use nickel which travels 10000 miles before manufactured
into a battery.
· High tech parts need to be recycled separetly.(2 motors, alloys,
computer parts)
· Batteries can still oppose a treat to life in the case of a car accident.
· Producing a hybrid takes more energy than the car can save during
its lifetime.
Why no t to purc has e a
hybrid?
· Hybrids are more expensive than traditional
cars, to buy and to keep running.
· Lifetime of a hybrid car is shorter.
· Driving a hybrid costs more to the mile than a
conventional mid ranged car.
Cho o s e yo urs e lf...
· Considering all these facts about hybrid cars it seems that it is
unreasonable to even think about producing a hybrid car. Mostly
because producing all these different parts starting from mining raw
materials to producing a car to recycling it takes hugh quantities of
energy: electricity, fuel, natural resources etc.
· In the end hybrids have a shorter lifetime so they dont save as much
as they spend energy.
· On the other hand buying a hybrid seems reasonable if you live in a
big city. You will make a difference by reducing emissions therefore
smog levels will reduce and also the city will become less noisy.
· You will use mostly your electric motor which will pay off in traffic
jams, when you wont burn fuel by waiting in a jam.
It is up to the consumer to decide which meets their needs and
principals, also considering that hybrids are fairly new, they will
become more eco-friendly in time.

refers to any vehicle that uses electric motors for propulsion, while "electric car" generally refers to road-going automobiles powered by electricity. While an electric car's power source is not explicitly an on-board battery, electric cars with motors powered by other energy sources are generally referred to by a different name: an electric car powered by sunlight is a solar car, and an electric car powered by a gasoline generator is a form of hybrid car. Thus, an electric car that derives its power from an on-board battery pack is a form of battery electric vehicle (BEV). Most often, the term "electric car" is used to refer to pure battery electric vehicles. What types electric cars we have Usual electric cars have a batterey and elecrtic motor jusr like toy cars. Hybrid vehicle Then we have already hybrid vehicle (HEV) is a type of hybrid vehicle and electric

6,5 per cent and petrol cars declined 5,3 per cent. Consumers are purchasing more diesel engine cars which have smaller fuel consumption. For that reason drivers can save money on the fuel.(http://academic.mintel.com E) Political Drivers are more likely to buy a small car with a smaller engine; then they will have lower taxes for their vehicle. The government is also trying to lead UK car production and car demand towards the fully electrical and hybrid electric cars. But it is not so easy because of the low demand and high production costs. Although in 2009 fully electric and hybrid electric cars have made a rise from 16000 to 20000. It might be because of the scrappage scheme, when customers get £2000 discount for buying a new car. Also when consumer wants to buy himself/herself a new Mini then the discount will apply. The government started scrappage

Environment and transportation

The following 10 activities will be a great help in solving our transportation problems. Do as many of these as you can, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Together we can make a difference! 1. Get a Better Vehicle --- If you need to drive, replace your old car with one of the new hybrid gas and electric cars - and you could save as much as $11,000 on gas and produce 107 fewer tons of carbon dioxide. The new efficient hybrids are reliable and drive just like standard cars. If you make no other transportation changes in your life, this one will make a huge difference. 2. Walk to Your Destination --- If it's a reasonable distance, you'll save energy and improve your health. Walking also helps to reduce tension and stress. Get some good walking shoes, dress for the weather, and hoof it! 3. Ride Your Bike --- If you need to travel a greater distance, take your bike. Again, it's good exercise, it feels great and it's fun. 4. Take a Bus --- Many communities have a pub

Globaalne soojenemine (inglise keeles)

GLOBAL WARMING Global warming is the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of Earth's climate system. Since 1971, 90% of the increased energy has been stored in the oceans, mostly in the 0 to 700m region. Despite the oceans' dominant role in energy storage, the term "global warming" is also used to refer to increases in average temperature of the air and sea at Earth's surface. Since the early 20th century, the global air and sea surface temperature has increased about 0.8 °C (1.4 °F), with about two-thirds of the increase occurring since 1980.Each of the last three decades has been successively warmer at the Earth's surface than any preceding decade since 1850. More than 90% certain that most of global warming was being caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases produced by human activities. In 2010 that finding was recognized by the national science academies of all major industrialized nations.
