The Goblin Last month, I attended an Eduard Tubin's modern ballet performance ,,The Goblin" in two acts at the Estonian National opera. The choreographer and stage director was Marina Kesler. The conductors were Vello Pähn, Kaspar Mänd and Lauri Sirp. "The Goblin" is the first Estonian ballet, which premiered in 1943 at the Vanemuine Theatre. ,,The Goblin" is based on a mythical character from Estonian folclore. His master, the Farmer, was very greedy and he dreamed of being wealthy. To create the Goblin, the Farmer had to give him 3 drops of his blood and to sell him his soul. The Goblin's purpose was to serve his master in obtaining riches. The Farmer also had a Daughter, who was in love with a Peasant. The Peasant was quite poor and because of that the Farmer disliked him. The Farmer had never enough of money and he made everything to develop his bussiness. He had so much money that he deci...
Essay: Modern electronic games Electronic games have become very popular among people of all ages nowadays due to the easy access to computers, consoles and internet. They are mostly frowned upon by adults, because they do not seem to find any positive aspects about them. But are electronic games really that bad for you? Of course, like anything else, video games can be addictive, which may lead to eye damage. The impact of excessive visual medium is evident as a large number of children these days start wearing spectacles from an early age. Long hours of playing can also result in headaches and dizziness. When played moderately, video games have many benefits. The activities and actions on the screen provide a lot of mental stimulation, improving coordination, concentration and problem-solving skills. Online gaming enables many players to engage in a particular game simultaneously. There is const...
Holiday time My holiday began from a class trip to Tartu. There we visited the Estonian National Defence College. Afterwards, I took a bus ride to Tallinn, where I spent the rest of my holiday. Due to my brother moving house, I had to help him out with that. The majority of the work involved stacking firewood from one shed to another, whilst sorting it out to dried and raw. During free time, we went shopping into different shopping centres. I left Tallinn on Saturday, so I would have a day to prepare for school.

TSUNAMI Kristjan Sillaots G1R2 WHAT IS TSUNAMI? A tsunami is a series of ocean waves that sends surges of water, sometimes reaching heights of over 100 feet (30.5 meters), onto land. These walls of water can cause widespread destruction when they crash ashore. WHAT CAUSES A TSUNAMI? These awe-inspiring waves are typically caused by large, undersea earthquakes at tectonic plate boundaries. When the ocean floor at a plate boundary rises or falls suddenly, it displaces the water above it and launches the rolling waves that will become a tsunami. WHAT CAUSES A TSUNAMI? Tsunamis may also be caused by underwater landslides or volcanic eruptions. They may even be launched, as they frequently were in Earth’s ancient past, by the impact of a large meteorite plunging into an ocean. ...
Etta James was born Jamesetta Hawkins on January 25, 1938, in Los Angeles, California, to a 14-year-old mother. Her father has never been identified. James lived with a series of foster parents most notably „Sarge“ and „Mama Lu“. Etta received her first proffessional vocal training at the age of five. She became a popular singing attraction at the church. In 1950, when she was 12, Mama Lu died and her real mother took her to the Fillmore District, San Francisco. James began listening to doo-wop and was inspired to form a girl group, called the Creolettes. After that, she met musician Johnny Otis. Nonetheless, Otis took the group under his wing, helping them sign to Modern Records and changing their name from The Creolettes to the Peaches. He also gave the singer her stage name Etta James. The success gave the group an opening spot on Little Richard’s national tour. Etta decided to leave the group. After leaving The Peaches she had ano...
Tallinn University Briti ja Ameerika kunst ja kultuur 20.-21. sajandil GRA6221 Course project: Street Art Viktoria Gumennaja 2018 INTRODUCTION "The city's the best gallery I could imagine." — JR I choose the topic for writing an essay - street art. Why did I choose this genre? Because for me it is something magical and special, not at all similar to those works that are in museums, at exhibitions and so on. Think for yourself, because street art began with the graffiti, and now we can see on the streets of our city just a work of art. I think graffiti, by the way, is also a great and invaluable work. Trends are changing. Now, young artists are moving from an endless unthinking tagging to a more conceptual and rich sense, abstract and volumetric work. Street art has become popular among the general public, becau...
Rowan Sebastian Atkinson is born on January 6th 1955, he’s 59 years old. He’s an English actor, comedian, and screenwriter who is best known for his work on the sitcoms Mr. Bean and Blackadder. He has been listed in The Observer as one of the 50 funniest actors in British comedy and amongst the top 50 comedians ever, in a 2005 poll of fellow comedians. Although he'd first appeared at Edinburgh when he was 17, Atkinson was spotted at the 1976 Festival by television producer John Lloyd, who went on to produce him in his first starring role - as one of the four members of the ’Not The Nine O'Clock News’ sketch team. This was followed by the huge success of Blackadder and its sequels which propelled Atkinson to star status. He then went on to create Mr Bean. A walking disaster, Bean was purely physical comedy, the opposite of Edmund Blackadder's polished dialogue. This clumsy character was a huge success and became another national trea...

What methods should parents and governments use to tackle obesity in schoolchildren? At the beginning of 21st century obesity amongst has become a major issue in many highly developed countries such as Germany and United Kingdom. Kids are participating in less physical activities then before and food that has high sugar and fat content is easily accessible for them. Thanks to modern day society it does not seem like the rates are going down themselves any time soon. What could government and/or parents do to make youngsters lifestyle healthier? One approach that parents should consider is to influence their children to part-take in a heathy lifestyle. It is probably true to say that kids who are used to eating junk food and low physical activity are more likely to become overweight sooner or later. By changing living habits and stepping up as good role models parents should adapt food that is beneficial and doing sports into norma...

Environmental problems Many environment problems are caused by human actions. 1. Air pollution. Use public transportation instead of your own when going to work. Air pollution is also drastically reduced by conserving energy. It is the little things, like switching off fans and lights when you are not at home. Electricity causes the burning of large amounts of fossil fuels, which in turn pollute the air. Solar power is a fantastic solution. Now that solar radiation is at a climactic peak, we can reap power from the sun using solar panel systems. These range from home systems to larger scale systems powering entire communities and cities. 2. Deforestation. While individuals can rarely have a personal impact on the deforestation rate, there are other things you can do. Discourage deforestation and thus environmental degradation by reusing plastic a...

Online vs. traditional classes Nowadays, there are numerous ways to acquire a good education. In addition to traditional classes, there are online classes, which have grown exponentially in terms of popularity over the past few years. Although these computer-based courses are thought to be more convenient and inexpensive, there are still countless proponents to the traditional way of learning, who stand by social interaction and discipline. So which is more advantageous – an online class or a traditional class? To start off, online classes are more flexible than traditional classes. This is especially useful for people with families or a tight schedule, who only have certain periods of time available. Even though classes on the Internet often have a confirmed timeline, they still offer those lacking of spare time the opportunity to modify the time spent on the course they have chosen. In spite of online...
Should class attendance be mandatory for university students? It has been heavily debated, whether class attendance in general should be compulsory or optional. While most people can agree on the necessity of class attendance in elementary, as well as secondary school being obligatory, then opinions on required class attendance at university are quite divided. Both two alternatives have their respective up- and downsides but all aspects considered, which is more beneficial? To start off, the students’ chosen specialty usually reflects their interests which means that said students, in fact, want to attend classes. In this case, it seems unnecessary to make classes mandatory as it will be more time consuming and virtually even pointless for them to explain their reason for absence. After all, it is relatively common that when students take interest in a subject, it is highly unlikely they will deliberately miss a class. Regardless of c...

Marriage vs cohabiting If one day marriage was a traditional part of people’s lives than nowadays many people choose cohabitation instead. In my opinion there are upsides and downsides to both marriage and cohabiting. Firstly let’s look at the up- and downsides of marriage. Marriage is a big commitment, so many people tend to be scared of it. They are scared that their marriage will lead to divorce, in which case the parting can turn out to be much more complicated than parting in case of cohabitation. The second problem is that many people just don’t see the point in marrying. And there is also the financial loss of the celebrations and the ring and things like that. I think that one of the upsides of marriage is definitely the promise that people make to eachother when marrying. If they think about that promise while deciding if to part ways or not then it might help them. What’s more when peopl...
Why learn foreign languages Everyone knows that nowadays English is the most common language in the world. For that reason, it is extremely important for young people to improve their skills and to learn as much as they can of, this important language. To begin with, speaking foreign languages allows you to travel wherever you want without any problems. If you are visiting a place far away, it would probably be useful for you to know a little bit of English or some other languages. For example, if you get lost in a strange country you could ask somebody for information without any problems. Furthermore, having a good knowledge of different languages could help you to find jobs. These days, it is always more common to find businesses which are looking for a good English or some other languages speaker. The Earth's climate has been changing constantly over its history. Once, all climate change occurred naturally, but recently, people have also started altering the climate. We are sending more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The average global temperature has increased by about 0.5 °C over the past century. Scientist expect it to increase up to an additional 3 °C over the next on 100 years. People who are living in cold places may have a chance to grow new crops if the climate gets warmer. At the same time in some parts of the world, people won't be able to grow the food they need. Global warming will make the sea level higher because it'll make the glaciers melt. When water expands in the ocean, it takes up more space and the level of the seas rise. If global warming gets worse, some kinds of plants and animals will become extinct. So as a result we have to slow down the global warming.

Letter Dear Sally, I have also been very busy with my exams recently, so I completely understand what you are going through. I would really like to see you again and it would be very great if you came to see me in August, but unfortunately I have a really important soccer match during that week and I can not miss that so maybe you could come the week before or after. Please let me know as soon as possible because my mum wants to know so she and my father will probably plan a trip to somewhere in order for us to be all alone in the house. My bike actually broke so unfortunately we can’t go cycling but my dad suggested that perhaps we go canoeing. It sounds very fun to me so maybe if you’re intrested we could go try that, but it’s totally OK if you don’t want to, just let me know. So let me know when you could come and if you’re up for canoeing. I’ll be waiting for your reply. Best wishes, Alex ...
Writting a summary I read the following sections of the booklet „Europe. A journal for young people“. The booklet is listed in 7 sections:“ Europe in everday life“; „The European Union- what does this mean exactly?“; „How does the European Union work?“; „What exactly does the EU do?“; „Europe moves on_ the enlargement of the European Union“; „Europe and the wider world“ and „The future of Europe“. ‘Europe is somewhere else.’ This provocative statement opens the first chapter of „Europe. A journal for young people“. It is, of course, not true. As EU citizens, Europe is our home. It affects our lives in many areas. For example: money (euro is a common currency); flying has become much cheaper and safer; the police forces in the EU work closely together and European environmental protection lays down common standards. The second sections provides information about what does the European Union exactly means and when did 28 countries come ...

Pros and cons of social networking “Connectivity is a human right.“ Said Mark Zuckerberg Dear friends. Today I’m here to talk about the pros and cons of social networking. We all use internet everyday but we don’t really know the influence of social networking in our lives. I think social networking sites allow people to improve their relationships and make new friends. It is good that people can instant message with people all the time all over the world. It makes people feel like they are not alone. However the con to this is that social media causes people to spend less time interacting face to face. I think it’s not good because if they are always in social media talking with friends then people can’t interact with people outside the internet. If the people are not used to speaking in real life then it could be difficult to impress yourself with words to other people and because of this it could be d...

Marxism Why to be for Marxism? 1. Belief that a working labour could be seen as joy if a workers sees themselves in the objects they have created. 2. Against exploitation of workers which basically means that workers labour is resold at a higher price than he gets paid for it. 3. Classless society which means that everyone is equal in a basic sense as a member of the tribe and the different functional assignments of the primitive mode of production, howsoever rigid and stratified they might be, did not and could not, simply because of the numbers, produce a class society as such. Why to be against Marxism? 1. Marxism removes incentive, with the slogan “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need” which implies that you should only get what you need, regardless of productivity or skill, which discourages people from working hard, forces production to fall, which red...
Estonia vs. United Kingdom Comparing Estonia to United Kingdom, you can mostly find out the fact that the weathers aren’t so different, from my point of view atleast. Pretty rainy or wet most of the time, moderate winters and pretty average summers. Taking a look at the state systems, we can see that both countries are parliamentary government types, just the difference is that the United Kingdom is a monachry with a queen and Estonia has a president. From an economical standpoint, United Kingdom surpasses Estonia is most sectors, we can take the GDP as an example, when UK stands at 2.629 trillion then Estonia only stands at a low of 38.94 billion. That’s a huge difference, but we should concider another factor. When Estonia stands at the bottom ten of public debt, having one of the lowest ones in Europe then United Kingdom is at the top thirty, with its public debt being 89.30 percent of the GDP. ...
Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to express my disapproval of the Westwale Councils decision to sell the land of the Longheath Park. In my opinion, this is a terrible idea which will have many disadvantages for our town. Firstly, if the park is sold to the property developer, he will built an estate of 50 houses on the land. As a result, there will be no open spaces left. Therefore, children will not have a chance to play freely, and people will have nowhere to walk their dogs or ride their bikes. Secondly, there will be less green areas in town. Obviously, this will be very unhealthy, as people need fresh air and natural surroundings for good health. What is more, the town will be crowded and built up. Consequently, there will be more traffic, pollution, and the town will no longer be a nice place to live. To sum up, I think it is a very bad idea. I hope the local council will take my points into consideration. Yours faithfully, Eveli...
What is levels of formality? Search on the Internet leads to such subjects as "Levels of Formality in Language", "Formality levels of communication" , "Levels of formality in writing". Proceeding from it, it is possible to draw a conclusion, that levels of formality are almost everywhere. For a start it is worth understanding formality levels in Spoken language. Because the spoken language is used much more often. The first level of Spoken language is informal. Its use for routine messages delivered face-to-face with friends. Informal language is relaxed language with slang, contractions and humor. The second level is Semiformal. Its use for important messages to strangers(for example, Phone call). It is language with some contractions and personal pronouns. And the last one is Formal. Its use for serious messages and in other formal contexts. It is correct, serious language using complete sentences without slang. In a written languag...
LETTER OF COMPLAINT Dear Mr Manager, I am writing to complain about the coffee set I bought from your shop two days ago. You have a really wide choice of beautiful coffee cups and sets. All your personnel was very competent and helpful. So I chose a lovely set. I was recommended to deliver the purchase to my house. I got the delivery in time, but then the trouble started. I started unwrapping the set and to my horror I discovered that two of the saucers were broken. I would be grateful if you could substitute the broken items, otherwise I have to return the whole set and claim a refund. I have got the receipt. Should a mosque be built in Tallinn? Dear classmates and teacher, Today I want to talk to you about a topic that has brought with it a great deal of controversy in recent years. Namely, should the construction of a mosque in Tallinn be permitted? Estonians often like to pride themselves for being more tolerant and open-minded than those from other post-soviet nations. This sort of a progressive mindset, however, rarely extends to the principles of religious freedom. But why? Why are so many people opposed to something that in its core is just another place of worship much-like any other? After all, the construction of the mosque wouldn't even be funded by tax-payers. In addition, most of us don't oppose the building of churches, even though Estonia is currently the 3rd least religious country on the planet. Many people fear that the building of a mosque would open a door for Islamic radica...
Art and Aesthetics in Early Childhood Education TÕLGE Irving B. Weiner . Handbook of Psychology, Educational Psychology. 2003 lk 288-290 The very concept of artistic development and some long-standing models developed to describe it (e.g., Gaitskell, Hurwitz, & Day, 1982; Lowenfeld & Brittaind, 1964; Luquet, 1977) have in fact become a subject of criticism in recent years. Four particular issues have been identified in this collective body of criticism. First, questions have been raised about the appropriateness of unilinear conceptions of development in explaining a wide range of pictorial imagery produced by children. adolescents, and adults. Second, a disparity has been noted between the breadth of the world of art and the narrowness of the focus on visual realism that has served as the endpoint in these developmental models. Third, cultural biases that mark these models have been identified theoretically and empirically. Fourth, i...

Summary of ,,Nelson's management style could have come from a modern textbook" By Stephen Howarth Many people think that it is almost impossible to use war leaders of the past as role models for the present. Although leaders and heroes are still needed. Nelson's character and training for the adventure of the Nile still makes him an figure example for everyone. Today even at the hardest boardroom battle almost no-one has to feel the level of responsibility that Nelson had in 1798. He bored responsibilities that are also described in modern books, there he mentioned important themes. Those themes, for example developing teamwork, are still very valuable. In 1798 he faced challenge when in continental Europe controlled by revolutionary France,. In Toulon French were making big fleet and army. When Nelson wasn't even 40 yet, he was choosed to...
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY A century ago communication across any distance was dependent upon the telegraph or letters. No jets crossed the ocean, no television pictures enabled us instantly to see events in any part of the world, there were no worldwide telephone networks and no computers. It is just a short lifetime since humanity first travelled into space and discovered how fragile our planet looks. FROM FIREWORKS TO THE MOON At first glance you might think that there couldn't possibly be anything common between a 13 th century festival in China and the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. However, there is a link and that is that they both relied on the use of rockets. The Chinese first developed rockets by filling bamboo tubes with an explosive made from saltpetre, charcoal, and sulphur. The sealed tubes would be thrown onto fires during celebrations because it was thought ...

What makes a good leader? There are many different leadership theories and opinions about characteristics and skills that leader should have. The Great Man Theory declares that the leaders are born not made, but the another theory claims that some people just have more leadership gifts than others. Internet has many uses in my life - I use it for studying, tracking weather, playing games, watching movies and listening to music. I mostly use internet in my smartphone. It's more convenient to carry around rather than a computer. At home i prefer my computer it makes studying alot easier as I can type words much faster than with a smartphone or a pen. It's also bigger so it's nice to watch movies with as well. I use my computer a lot less than my phone maybe 2 or three hours a day, whereas I use my phone at all times. - , , , . . , . - , , . , . , - , 2 3 , . Ireland Geography · LocationWestern Europe · Area 84,421 km2 · Coastline 2,797 km · Highest elevation 1,041 m · Largest city Dublin · Population 6,572,728 Languages · English · Irish · Ulster Scots History · During the last glacial period, and up until about 10,000 BC, most of Ireland was periodically covered in ice. Sea levels were lower and Ireland, like Great Britain, formed part of continental Europe. By 16,000 BC, rising sea levels due to ice melting caused Ireland to become separated from Great Britain. Later, around 6000 BC, Great Britain itself became separated from continental Europe. The earliest evidence of human presence in Ireland is dated at 10,500 BC, demonstrated by a butchered bear bone found in a cave in County Clare. It is not until about 8000 BC, however, that more sustained occupation of the island has been shown, with evidence for Me...

The industrial revolution The Industrial Revolution, which took place from the 18th to 19th centuries, was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban. By mid-century, many people worked for small businesses or on farms, laboring in fields that would yield barely enough food to feed the family. New inventions and technology began to change that, however. Larger factories opened and produced new farm equipment, such as the steel plow and the tractor, which allowed farmers to cultivate bigger fields and produce more food that cost much less. Developments in the iron industry also played a central role in the Industrial Revolution. In the early 18th century, Englishman Abraham Darby (1678-1717) discovered a cheaper, easier method to produce cast iron, using a coke-fueled (as opposed to charcoal-fired) furnace. In the 1850s, British engineer Henry Bessemer ...
[Your Name] [Instructor] [Class] [Date] ABOUT SERIAL KILLERS INTRODUCTION Let's play a quick game of catchphrase - guess the word. My phrase is two words, and describes a person. Charles Manson. Ted Bundy. Jack the Ripper. Serial killer - serial meaning "arranged in a straight line or succession" (1) and killer meaning "one who kills, or any agent used to neutralize the active property of anything." We tend to have a morbid interest in people who commit murder. Today, I'd like to explain what distinguishes serial killing from mass murders, how long serial killing has been around, and highlight some of the psychological traits common to serial killers. BODY I. Serial killing vs mass murders Now at a glance serial killing and mass murder seems basically the same: one person kills many other people. The distinction between the two is notable: mass murder happens when one person murders mult...

Protecting endangered species will make a difference in humans' life In the nature of humankind it is natural to hunt animals. However, nowadays hunting endangered species will make humans be just killers, because it is not necessary to kill something just to have a trophy on the wall at home. People can be proud of what they have done, but decreasing the population of a species largely will cause the specific animal breed to go extinct faster than it would happen via natural causes. Therefore, humans should stop hunting endangered species to slow down their extinction, as these species offer balance in the wildlife, are used without purpose in medicine, and may even reduce poverty. Species on the brink of extinction affect us more than we realize. Sure, pandas are cute, and rhinos are fun to look at, but is there anything more to that? All animals and plants form a very important part of our ecosystem that also includes our land...

Abstract Teema pealkiri Nimi Eriala Instituut Asukoht, Aasta The Bhopal gas tragedy is considered to be the world's worst industrial disaster. Over 40 tonnes of the deadly methyl isocyanate (MIC) leaked from the Union Carbide Corporation Plant, toxifying and killing thousands of people. This study was aimed at determining the causes of this disaster and also the effect it had on people and the environment. A thorough analysis was done on several scientific works and articles. A lengthy documentary was also included in the analysis. The analyses established that a metal plate was missing from between two pipes in the Union Carbide Corporation in which water managed to reach the MIC tank. The chemical reaction between water and MIC caused a major temperature and pressure rise in the tank which allowed the toxic gas to escape from the emergency pipes. The gas was not neutralized, as the three fundamental emergency systems failed to work....

4/14/2019 Nimetu dokument - Google'i dokumendid Essay In todays society there`s a huge problem with waste and global warming. Many oh those problems come from us not thinking about what our actions do to the environment. Hazardous waste comes from factories that produce stuff that we really don`t need. We use private cars just to go to the supermarket but we could just take the buss or walk wich is much more environment friendly. The one that we do the most is leaving rubbish around that doesn`t turn into compost. We should save energy by just turning off the electic appliances when we don`t use them. When going to the store we should bring our own canvas bags or just reuse old plastic bags. Reducing the damage to the env...
