The Goblin
Last month , I attended an Eduard Tubin’s modern ballet performance „The Goblin“ in two acts at the Estonian National opera . The choreographer and stage director was Marina Kesler. The conductors were Vello Pähn, Kaspar Mänd and Lauri Sirp. “The Goblin” is the first Estonian ballet, which premiered in 1943 at the Vanemuine Theatre.
„The Goblin“ is based on a mythical character from Estonian folclore. His master, the Farmer , was very greedy and he dreamed of being wealthy. To create the Goblin, the Farmer had to give him 3 drops of his blood and to sell him his soul . The Goblin’s purpose was to serve his master in obtaining riches. The Farmer also had a Daughter , who was in love with a Peasant. The Peasant was quite poor and because of that the Farmer disliked him. The Farmer had never enough of money and he made everything to develop his bussiness . He had so much money that he decided to go to the casino and as a result he lost it. The Goblin strangles his master and sets his farm on fire. In the end, the Goblin dies, too. But the positive thing is that the love story of two young people stays alive and they are happy together.
“The Goblin” was an outstanding performance. All the dancers had excellent dancing skills and emotionally strong influence , the decorations and costumes were great. Moreover, the breathtaking music was based completely on the Estonian folclore and helped to imagine all the dancers’ emotions . It was a contemporary ballet, that included elements of classical ballet and modern dance . It does not have fixed rules and because of that it is easier to show real feelings and emotions. It was also quite extraordinary and interesting , that in one scene there took part the National female chorus .
„The Goblin“ makes you think what is really inmportant in life and what makes people happy. The story teaches, that having more money than you need is unlikely to increase your level of happiness . In the ballet there were two types of people. To the first type belonged the Farmer, whose most important life goal was to get more money. It can’t be said that he was happy, because the process of gaining money hindered his relationships with others . He had no positive emotions or feelings and even his daughter did not love him because of his greediness. The second type of people were the peasants. In spite of they poverty, they were caring and cheerful. They sang and danced a lot and enjoyed their life without huge amounts of money. They could take the Farmers’ money, but they did not, because it was not earned fairly. Compering to the Farmer, the peasants had right life morals and principies.
In conclusion , I would like to say that it was one of the most powerful and interesting performances that I have seen in my life. The Estonian folclore was succesfully combined with contemporary dance, lighting effects and symphonic music.

"Anna Karenina" kokkuvõte

"Anna Karenina" Lev Tolstoi Part 1 The novel opens with a scene introducing Prince Stepan Arkadyevitch Oblonsky, "Stiva", a Moscow aristocrat and civil servant who has been unfaithful to his wife Darya Alexandrovna, nicknamed "Dolly". Dolly has discovered his affair - with the family's governess - and the house and family are in turmoil. Stiva's affair and his reaction to his wife's distress shows an amorous personality that he cannot seem to suppress. In the midst of the turmoil, Stiva reminds the household that his married sister, Anna Arkadyevna Karenina is coming to visit from Saint Petersburg. Meanwhile, Stiva's childhood friend Konstantin Dmitrievich Levin ("Kostya") arrives in Moscow with the aim of proposing to Dolly's youngest sister Princess Ekaterina Alexandrovna Shcherbatskaya, "Kitty". Levin is a passionate, restless but shy aristocratic landowner who, unlike his Moscow friends, chooses to live in the country on his large estate. He discovers that Kitty is also be

The making of a new nation. The Enlightenment in America. The emergence of the notion of the American Dream. The great Enlighteners: Crèvecoeur, Jefferson, Paine, Franklin. The American Enlightenment is the intellectual thriving period in the United States in the midtolate 18th century (17151789), especially as it relates to American Revolution on the one hand and the European Enlightenment on the other. Influenced by the scientific revolution of the 17th century and the humanist period during the Renaissance, the Enlightenment took scientific reasoning and applied it to human nature, society, and religion. American Enlightenment a gradual but powerful awakening that established the ideals of democracy, liberty, and religious tolerance in the people of America. If there were just one development that directly caused the American Revolution and uplifted the intellectual culture of the continent while it was only a British colony, it would be the American Enlightenment. Libraries. We know a lot of things thanks to books, but we do not know exactly when and where they originated, and what should be considered the first book in the world. Ancient document, written on parchment, papyri and vellum can hardly be qualified as books the way we understand the word today. Centuries went before paper replaced parchment and papyri. In the 15 th century Johann Gutenberg invented a mechanical process of duplicating texts, which we today call book printing. The first book was printed between 1444 and 1446, so these years can be considered as the beginning years of book printing. His most important preserved printings are the 40 copies of the Bible. By the end of the 15 th century there were about 1000 print-shops in Europe already. The oldest Estonian book dates back to 1535. Libraries form a vital part of education. They make available-through books, films, recordings and other media- knowledge that h
