In the late 18th century the British army suffered two serious defeats at battles in Seringapatam, in India. The main reason for these defeats was that the Indian prince, Haidar Ali's army included a corps of rocket throwers. They used very large bamboo rockets which had a range of hundreds of metres. The British were determined to learn from their mistakes and a British officer, William Congrieve, began work on developing even bigger and better rockets. Within a few years Congrieve had developed 14 kg iron rockets that could be fired over 3200 m. These rockets were successfully used against Napoleon in the battle of Waterloo and during the US War of Independence. By the 1889s other applications for rockets were being developed. ESTONIAN EDUCATION POLICY. MAIN PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS Hanna-Loora Bobrov Since I was a teenager, I remember thinking of the school education quality. How to improve it, where teacher could be more efficient and how to make a better environment for the pupils. And now all these years later I am a young teacher and it is still important for me what is going on within my society in education. I believe I have some kind of advance of knowing what is really going on in Estonian schools and how the education policy really works. Because not long ago I finished the high school, before that changing a lot of different schools and I think I can say that I superficially know how different schools are working in various regions of Estonia.
How does virtual communication influence our behaviour and relationships? Virtual world is growing closer to ours every day. It has its pros, as well as cons and the industry involved in it has grown most rapidly in the last 15 year. Therefore, does virtual communication influence us positively or negatively? Becoming virtual in the means of communication has changed our lives forever. Recent studies tell that about 75% of the people in North-America use the internet and from that 95% use email and other virtual communication software. This percentage has grown over 130% from the year 2000. I bring my examples on North-America because there is the highest percentage of Internet users in population. Talking of it, what is internet? Statistics say that it is porn, but I believe that people mostly use it for communication. But can it be bad?
The effect of modern technology on our everyday life In the nowadays world, we are living in the era of advanced technology. Almost every activity that we do in our daily life is somehow connected with technology usage. It plays a major role not only in our lives, but also helped in development of various industries, changed education, entertainment. We can not measure this process and it`s impact on society, but one thing we can say for sure – technology has become part of pupils lives. There are so many advantages connected with technology and how it affected our everyday life. To start with, development of mobile technology, computers and internet made life easier. We can find information in sites like Google in a couple of minutes instead of looking for required information in books for hours. We have very strict education systems that don't allow a room for mistakes and they categorize people based on their achievements in exams. There is nothing like potentials, creativeness, possibilities or even 2nd chances. Families put high expectations on academic achievements and they always compare their kids with other's kids. A minority in each community will be really dedicated to help their kids explore their horizons. It is true that we should re-think the fundamental principles in which we educate our children.
