Strategies of creating a dominant party – the case of UR

University of Tartu Faculty of Social Sciences and Education Institute of Government and Politics Marie Allikmaa The strategies of creating a dominant party the case of United Russia Tartu 2011 After the collapse of USSR in 1991, many observers expected Russia to develop into a competitive party system. Yet, the reality quickly challenged this view. The developments of party politics in post-Soviet Russia have accurately been described in terms of a pendulum effect, as in the 2000s, Russia's party system did finally begin to take for, but with a remarkable twist. Following the break of one-party rule, Russia's party system became strongly fragmented - during the 1995 parliamentary elections, 43 parties competed for popular votes (McFault 1996: 90). In the 21st century, the pendulum has moved back, ...

Improved Windows for Cold Climates

The main purpose of having windows in houses is that they provide daylight and view, but windows also provide solar gain that can be utilized as a contribution to the space heating in the building. Therefore the windows also have a positive influence on the energy balance of buildings. To evaluate the possibilities for developing better windows with respect to energy performance when used in Nordic and arctic climates, seven different window types have been examined in terms of the net energy gain and simulations of the energy consumption in buildings with focus on domestic houses. A large part of the energy consumption in countries in Nordic and Arctic climates is used for space heating in buildings. In typical buildings the windows are responsible for a considerable part of the heat losses. Therefore there is a large potential for energy savings by developing and using windows with improved energy performance.

Tartu, University of Life Sciences, Language Centre, 2015. The articles were about person's driving reflexes, based on research of driver reaction time. The main object of this game was to find out your reflexes on the road to reaveal how 'old' you are between 18 and 90 years old. While the basic principles generalize to estimating other reaction times, the exact numbers do not. Each type of reaction time has its own pecularities that must be examined. For example, reaction time for a shooter who is tracking a target might be 0.4 second, but even this would be a function of trigger pull weight. The data revealed that range of factors seem to affect player's concentration. For example, the average reaction time of drivers is 10 percent faster than that of non- drivers, and those that slept for eight hours the night before the survey reported the fastest reaction times of 525 ms - up to 20 percent faster than those who got less shut-eye.

So i decided to sit down and rest a bit. But that didn´t help. i felt even worse. So i went home. At home I measured my temperature and it was really high, so my mom sent me straight to bed. At first we thought that it was not anything serious, but when two days had gone by and the temperature had not gone down, my mom began to worry about me. So we drove to the hospital, as the doctor was not able to come to our home. In the hospital , doctor examined me and he told us that i had a really bad flu. And that i should not get out of the bed for two weeks at least. The doctor also gave some medcines to me. Now the two weeks have gone by and I have done everything do get well. I have drunk tea with honey, I have stayed in the bed and not walked and i have taken all the medcines to get well. But i am still feeling a bit weak. So i hope that you know something that can make me better.

resulting from groundwater-level (GWL) variations. These effects are expected to be particularly serious in coastal regions because of the influence of the rising sea level resulting from global warming. The influence of sea-level rises (SLR) will become apparent along with land subsidence because groundwater abstraction will become severe in coastal regions. Additionally, the probability of earthquake liquefaction increases if GWL rises in accompaniment with SLR. Using case histories, we examined the possible occurrence of these natural hazards as a result of global warming. Finally, possible countermeasures and adaptation strategies for reducing and mitigating infrastructure damage accelerated by global warming are described for each case in specific regions. In particular, special attention should be paid to adaptation strategies in coastal lowlands, which particularly suffer from the effects of land subsidence.

novels, six non-fiction books and several collections of short stories. In 1962 Steinbeck received the Nobel Prize for Literature. In his subsequent novels, Steinbeck found a more authentic voice by drawing upon direct memories of his life in California. Later he used real historical conditions and events in the first half of 20th century America, which he had experienced first-hand as a reporter. Steinbeck often populated his stories with struggling characters; his works examined the lives of the working class and migrant workers during the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. His later body of work reflected his wide range of interests, including marine biology, politics, religion, history, and mythology. One of his last published works was Travels with Charley, a travelogue of a road trip he took in 1960 to rediscover America. He died in 1968 in New York of a heart attack and his ashes are interred in Salinas.

not hard and fast. There are varieties of a given intricately adapted to different conditions, that routinely interbred along the boundary between their home territories, but the mixed varieties tend to remain confined to the boundary area, since they are less adapted than either of the base varieties to their own home territories. Specification in nature did not require dramatic jumps, but could emerge out of gradually widening variation. Darwin examined variation under domestication to demonstrate that the deliberate selection of breeders could produce varieties as markedly different from the root stock as the varieties found in nature. Deliberate selection through breeding was obviously a much faster and "efficient" process than natural selection through differential rates of survival in the face of environmental pressures, but the end result would be essentially the same, the variety of a given species that was most adapted to

Extended essay: To what extent does a plant-based diet lower the risk of coronary artery disease?

Unfortunately vegan and vegetarian populations only make up a small portion of people. This investigation could be made even more comprehensive if there was data available on people that are lacto- vegetarians, ovo-vegetarians, raw vegans as well as people who are on a meat only diet. There could be even more possible variables and outcomes. I believe this investigation would have turned out a lot better if the Seventh-Day Adventists study conductors had examined the saturated fat and cholesterol levels, as well as dietary fiber in their participants like the Oxford Vegetarian Study did. I would’ve been able to add the results together to get a broader overview of the outcomes. It would’ve helped if other nutrients in the body were examined to determinate whether any deficiencies, for example B12 deficiency, may induce coronary artery disease.

First limitation examined in this paper concerns students' own perceptions of blogs. The problem is that many students do not see the educational or reflective benefits of reading others blogs. Rather they perceive a blog as an account of events (Hanlon, 2009, pp. 6-7). Therefore it is questionable how many students would use a blog for reflection if not instructed to do so. Estuary English - A Controversial Issue?

Estuary English lies in the "fuzziness of the boundaries between EE and Cockney, and EE and RP" (Maidment 1994), which is the consequence of an overlap between the formal style of Cockney and informal style of EE, and the formal style of EE and the informal style of RP. Several studies have been designed to determine whether such boundary markers exist and whether they can function separately or collectively only. One of such attempts was made by Haenni (1999: 14 38), who examined selected accent features of EE to see if they can fix a rigid boundary between Cockney, EE and RP. His survey reveals that clear-cut markers of Estuary English do not exist (1999: 38). · Cockney speakers' accommodation in the new territories? julgustada inimesi pöörduma akne korral spetsialistide poole. 22 SUMMARY This research focuses on the skin disease acne (acne vulgaris). The author of the paper examined how widely spread the said disease is among the secondary students of Saaremaa Co-educational Gymnasium. The author also aimed to find how students take care of their skin, what causes acne and which areas are the most infected, how make-up affects pimples and how acne and acne scars change a person's appearance. To achieve her purpose, the author compiled a questionnaire of seven questions about acne. The questionnaire was carried out among the students of the 3 secondary school classes.

The applicant complained that the length of his detention on remand and the criminal proceedings against him violated his rights guaranteed under Articles 5 § 3 and 6 § 1. 114. The Court recalls that the question of whether or not a period of detention is reasonable cannot be assessed in the abstract. Whether it is reasonable for an accused to remain in detention must be examined in each case according to its special features. Continued detention can be justified in a given case only if there are specific indications of a genuine requirement of public interest which, notwithstanding the presumption of innocence, outweighs the rule of respect for individual liberty laid down in Article 5 of the Convention. It falls in the first place to the national judicial authorities to ensure that, in a given case, the pre-

This research revealed the negative and positive sides of different heating systems. For example the positive side of electrical heating sytem is its convenience, but the negative is the need for electricity. The same is with solar heating where the initial investment is quite large, but in longer perspective it costs it self

kuluva ajaga. 46 10. SUMMARY The aim of this thesis was to study the suitability of two optical sensors for a calibration process of water meters. While writing this thesis the author studied the working principle of optical sensors, analysed different solutions, disregarding all that did not suit the needs of this work and concentrated on thouse that showed the most potential. Also the calibration method of water meters was carefully examined, which stated the requirements that the optical sensors should fullfill while working. The practical part of the work was made simpler by authors two years of experience with water meters and measuring equipment used for the process. The results in table 8.1 show that the measuring deviation during the process stays well within the deviation calculated by the calibration of Metrosert AS water meter measuring equipment. Using

countries and the factors that contribute to it. An overview is given of the percentage and position of hunters in European countries, as well as the populations and forest density of different countries. The status of hunters in various countries, different hunting organizations, and the history and current situation of game management in Estonia are discussed. Hunters' relationships with landowners and other stakeholders (animal rights activists) are examined as contributing factors. The methodology of the research consists in studying internet sources and literature (hunting magazines, books, articles), and writing their synopses and summaries. The source of data used in the research that has been discussed in the thesis is the supervisor, senior lecturer Tiit Randveer. It was concluded that the greater the continuity of a country's hunting traditions, the more favourable the general attitude towards hunters

Thus further studies in this area would increase our understanding of the emotional regulation of the physiological response and lead to better psychotherapeutic interventions and / or

Losberne to them. Oliver was exceptionally saddened that he might lose Rose, and was grateful he could do something to help. He delivered the letter to the innkeeper who dispatched a man with it right away. On Oliver's way back to the house, he ran into a strange man that began shouting at him. The man said that Oliver was haunting him, and Oliver left as quickly as possible. He prayed earnestly for Rose, and the next night Losberne came to help them. After he examined her, he told them there was little hope for her survival. Oliver prayed harder and spent time in the cemetery watching a funeral. When he returned, he was told that if Rose woke up from the sleep she had gone into, then she would experience a full recovery. Otherwise she would die. The next morning, Dr. Losberne came downstairs with the news that Rose had awakened, and everyone rejoiced the news.

their power. This book is organized around these six principles. The principles- reciprocation, consistency, social proof, liking, authority, and scarcity-are each discussed in terms of their function in the society and in terms of how their enor- mous force can be commissioned by a compliance professional who deftly incor- porates them into requests for purchases, donations, concessions, votes, or assent. ' Finally, each principle is examined as to its ability to produce a distinct kind of automatic, mindless compliance from people, that is, a willingness to say yes with- out thinking first. The evidence suggests that the ever-accelerating pace and infor- mational crush of modern life will make this particular form of unthinking compliance more and more prevalent in the future. It will be increasingly important for the society, therefore, to understand the how and why of automatic influence.

surveys conducted. 7 The dominating bat species in wintering period of 2008/2009 was Myotis daubentonii, forming 80% of bats found. Abundance of species was the highest in tunnel nr 1, where all wintering species in Estonia were recorded. In all months of the hibernating season of 2008/2009 majority of bats used open position to hibernate in all tunnels examined. Comparing wintering periods of 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 the biggest difference was found to be in the abundance of the species Plecotus auritus. In 2008/2009 the survey results showed a difference of 40 specimens of Plecotus auritus comparing to the previous season. By analyzes it was found out, that the abundance of bats changes monthly during the hibernation period in both periods compared. Parallel studies in the visual arts stressed a feminine sensibility of soft fluid colours, an emphasis on the personal and decorative, and on forms that evoked the female genitalia. Five years later the debate had moved on, from exclusively feminine concerns to the wider issues of gender in social and cultural contexts. Patriarchy and capitalism should be examined more closely, perhaps as Althusser had attempted, and sophisticated models built to integrate the larger web of economics, education, division of labour, biological constraints and cultural assumptions. Literature will often reflect the cultural assumptions and attitudes of its period, and that of course includes attitudes towards women: their status, their roles, their expectations. But a literature
