Chronology of Christopher Columbus

  • Parents : Domenico Colombo ( worked as a master wool weaver , he also kept a tavern, dabbled in real estate and was a partisan for the mighty Fregoso family, who gave Domenico a gatekeeper ’s job.) and Susanna Fontanarossa

  • In 1479- a lawsuit over a sugar, where Columbus was a Genoese agent in transaction with Portugal
  • In 1470- Columbus starts as a seafarer (merchant). Also he predicted storms, winds. He developed in sea area (reading charts, calculating complex time- speed - distance equation).
  • He was interested in Galaxy ( Zodiac signs, planets etc)
  • In 1476, Columbus almost had drown when the pirate ship attacked their ship.
  • In 1477, Columbus travelled a 100 leagues beyond Tile (Thule), where he noted the immense tides (probably Iceland).
  • 1478 - Columbus and his wife lived in Madeira
  • In 1479- Columbus got married to Portuguese Felipa Moniz Perestrello
  • By the 1480 - they returned back to Lisbon, where their son was born.
  • While he was in Lisbon, he used his father-in-law power and researched materials and voyages of Atlantic Sea
  • Columbus examined maps thoroughly and also he became a cosmographer, so he began to produce and sell marine charts, also he was interested in new discoveries and settlements.
  • He travelled a lot till he approached the king , offering to find India and Cipangu, in 1483, 1484, but king sent the vessel to test Columbus theory and the vessel didn’t reach any shore .
  • 1480- Christopher’s wife died and he abandoned his career in merchant-navigator.
  • In 1485 he gave her son to his wife sister.
  • 1488- Columbus and his lover Beatriz Enriquez de Arana got child called Ferdinand .
  • 1488- Columbus made another trip to Portugal to get support from John II
  • In 1492 finally he got a supporting decision and he signed a contract with Castile on April 17 in 1492.
  • In 1492 Columbus reached South-America, but he thought that it was India.
  • The last part of Columbus life was full of illnesses.
  • On May 20, 1506 , Columbus died and was buried Franciscan robes. His bones were shipped to Santo Domingo about 1540 to rest with honour in the Cathedral .
