1. Why is it important to move beyond product innovation?
2. Name an example of a company from the book, which has gone beyond product innovation – explain which of the 9 other types they have used?
  • I really liked the example of Microsoft reinventing integrated office tools. When I think about it in today’s context , it seems very logical – a lot of companies do that. But that must have been an amazing innovation for that time. They used:
    • Profit model – instead of paying for the different applications separately, they combined them into one package that the consumers can purchase for a cheaper price (compared to the total price of purchasing the applications separately).
    • Processconstant data collections from users of the sofware -> continues improvement of the software.
    • Product system – it was introduced as a suite of desktop applications both for Windows and Macintosh.
    • Channel making use of the rise of the Internet , they made the MS Office web-compatible.
3. What is the industry that your MA1 project operates within? Which types of innovation are used in that industry by your competitors?
  • Our MA1 project operates within the Education industry.
  • Our competitors use various e-learning sources (e.g. Library, different school already have their own systems). But we don’t know of any similar platform in Denmark .
4. Why is it important to challenge convention ?
  • For a long time many companies and organizations have been doing things the same way ( work schedules, company structures, taking care of the finances , etc.). But in today’s dynamic and rapidly changing world that doesn’t make sense anymore. The companies and organizations should think outside of the box and try to come up with innovative solutions to change the way they do things, even the smallest changes can make a big difference .
5. Explain which types of innovation would be relevant to include in your MA1
project – and why?

  • Network : the main function of the platform is dependent on the interaction of the customers (customers are the creators and users of the content on the platform)
  • Product system: future opportunities (e.g. access to audio books , finding tutors)
  • Service : people should trust the information on our platform, therefore we need to make sure how to make it trustworthy
  • Customer engagement: since the platform is based on interaction between two different types of customers (the ones looking for information, and the ones uploading information), we need to make sure that the customer journey on the platform is user friendly for both sides and also that it will be trustworthy.
  • Profit model: because the ideal platform we imagine is something that students would like to use, but most of them don’t want to pay for it. So our second idea was to give the access to the platform for free, and use another way for earning profit (e.g. advertisements , collaboration with schools )
6. What are the 6 steps you need to cover when doing and innovation industry analysis ?
  • Step 1: Understand all the 10 types of innovation
  • Step 2: De-emphasize reliance on products and technology ( these are two innovations that the competitors can easily copy, compared to an innovative way of structure in the company, which is not usually so visible for competitors)
  • Step 3: Think about categories as well as types (don’t focus only on the separate 10 innovation categories, but try to also think of them as combined elements : configuration, offering, experience .)
  • Step 4: Use the types that matter the most (try to find the types of innovations in a specific industry that is usually overlooked -> bigger competitive advantage)
  • Step 5: Understand what your users really need (know your customers thoroughly, do research, try to figure out which types of innovations could surprise and attract them more)
  • Step 6: Use enough of the types to make a splash (Using 5 or more types together will nearly always guarantee great success)

They approach innovation in its broadest sense, including both new technologies and new ways of doing things” – (Porter 1990) ● “An innovative business is one which lives and breathes “outside the box”. Introduction of SCM

INTRODUCTION OF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT (SCM) A supply chain is a network of facilities and distribution options that performs the functions of procurement of materials, transformation of these materials into intermediate and finished products, and the distribution of these finished products to customers. Supply chains exist in both service and manufacturing organizations, although the complexity of the chain may vary greatly from industry to industry and firm to firm. Supply chain management is typically viewed to lie between fully vertically integrated firms, where the entire material flow is owned by a single firm and those where each channel member operates independently. Therefore coordination between the various players in the chain is key in its effective management. Cooper and Ellram [1993] compare supply chain management to a well-balanced and well-practiced relay team. Such a team is more competitive when each player knows how to

have by now), but it’s pretty impressive. TheWebitself kept improving.Even when I’m using my desktop computer to do all the things I’ve always done on theWeb(buying stuff, making travel plans, connecting with friends, reading the news, and settling bar bets), the sites I use tend to be much more powerful and useful than their predecessors. We’vecome to expect things like autosuggest and autocorrect, and we’re annoyed when wecan’tpay a parking ticket or renew a driver’s license online. Usability went mainstream. In 2000, not that many people understood the importance of usability. Now, thanks in large part to Steve Jobs (and Jonathan Ive), almost everyone understands that it’s important, even if they’re still not entirely sure what it is. Except now they usually call it User Experience Design (UXD or just UX), an umbrella term for any activity or profession that

Thesis Kivimaa August 2022

Thesis “How is it possible to calculate IT security effectiveness?” Kristjan Kivimaa August 2022 1 Abstract In IT Security world, there is lack of available, reliable systems for measuring security levels/posture. They lack the range of quantitative measurements and easy and fast deployment, and potentially affects companies of all sizes. Readily available security standards provide qualitative security levels, but not quantitative results – that would be easily comparable. This deficiency makes it hard for companies to evaluate their security posture accurately. Absence of security metrics makes it complicated for customers to select the appropriate measures for particular security level needed. The research question for this research project is – “How is it possible to calculate IT security effectiveness?”. The aim of this research is to use this reference m

I think a lot of people are creative. Once they find an outlet for it, they find they want to do it all the time. But it's not just the creative side of my new career that I love. I also enjoy the contact with people and the business side. Some days I don't make as much money as others, but generally it's going well. Then there's the complete lack of stress. These days, I go home feeling relaxed. I haven't given up pharmacy altogether. One day a week I still work for Boots, who I locum for. I like keeping a toe in the water of pharmacy because it was never something I hated just something I found I didn't want to do all the time."
