Correlation between brand longevity and the diffusion of innovations theory

Tallinn University Alina Leopard Correlation between brand longevity and the diffusion of innovations theory An analysis Lecturer : Karin Luiga Tallinn 2017 Introduction In developing environments (i.e. countries) the diffusion – aka adoption – of innovations takes always longer. This is for the reason that ’ignorance is the worst judge’ – as my partner loves to say. When people are not that highly educated or developed in critical and objective thinking, they find hard to take in new information. The goal of the diffusion model is basically to represent the level of adoption of an innovation in time. Diffusion of Innovations Theory – the basics The DOI theory has been generated or analysed for already more than 100 years. It was made

Entry Ticket Week 39 – Ave Nurmeots (62-130) 1. Why is it important to move beyond product innovation?  To be able to compete within the today’s marketplace (continued success and differentiation).  It is not enough anymore just to come up with an innovative product or its features. To achieve a bigger and more sustainable competitive advantage different types of innovations should be combined together. 2. Name an example of a company from the book, which has gone beyond product innovation –explain which of the 9 other types they have used?  I really liked the example of Microsoft reinventing integrated office tools. When I think about it in today’s context, it seems very logical – a lot of companies do that. But that must have been an amazing innovation for that time. They used:

Criticisms to the theory •Too simplistic •Ignores the fact that only the poor go hungry (marxist viewpoint) and that it purely results from the poor distribution of resources. •Malthus did not see the changes in farming technology. e.g. 10,000 sq meters (one hectare) or the size of a football pitch can feed 1000 people for a year (or enough tom feed the world) This is backed up by the fact that in 1992 EU surpluses reached 26 million tonnes. Task: Brainstorm the new technological innovations An OPTIMISTIC approach (Alternative theory)  Ester Boserup (1965) suggested that an increase in population would stimulate technologists to increase food production.  It followed that a rise in population will increase demand for food and therefore act as an incentive to modify technology to produce more food. In other words, “Necessity is the mother of invention” .  As population increases agriculture

The Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is a 1.7 mile(2,74 km)long bridge that can be crossed by car, on bicycles or on foot. It is the second longest bridge in the United States. The Golden Gate Bridge, completed after more than four years of construction at a cost of $35 million, opened to traffic on May 28, 1937 at twelve o'clock noon. One of the most interesting Golden Gate Bridge fact is that only eleven workers died during construction, a new safety record for the time. One of the bridge's safety innovations was a net suspended under the floor. This net saved the lives of 19 men during construction . There are also 128 lights installed on the bridge roadway. It makes it beautiful at night-time. The avarage crossings are about 41 million per year, counting both north- and south crossings. The Golden Gate Bridge's paint color is orange vermillion, also called international orange. Architect Irving Morrow selected the color because it blends with the bridge's setting.

To: John Howell From: Merike Aasmäe Subject: Suggetions for the shop Date: 1st May 2012 Purpose The purpose of this report is to recommend ways to make the shop more profitable. Interior Firstly, one suggestion would be to make in your shop some innovations by changing it modern. A visual revamp of your retail shop interior will make your business feel and look brand new, and attract a whole new customer base. The interior design is a very important consideration so you need to give it a big thought. Background music Secondly, I think it would be useful to use background music in the shop. Background music keeps customers comfortable and relaxed. Keeping your employees happy is just as important as doing the same for your customers

Iron is stronger then bronze and iron ore is more common(it made tools and weapons better). One of the interesting innovations that they brough to Britain was the iron plough which changed a lot about the farming(made it easier). Iron changed trade and fostered local independence. Whitney expected to study law but, finding himself short of funds, accepted an offer to go to South Carolina as a private tutor. Instead of reaching his destination, he was convinced to visit Georgia. Georgia was a magnet for New Englanders seeking their fortunes. He invented the cotton gin, which was the beginning of his success. After he failed in his cotton gin business, Whitney worked with interchangeable parts. Whitney is most famous for two innovations which later divided the United States in the mid- 19th century: the cotton gin (1793), and his advocacy of interchangeable parts. In the South, the cotton gin revolutionized the way cotton was harvested and reinvigorated slavery. While in the North, the adoption of interchangeable parts revolutionized the manufacturing industry, and in time contributed greatly to their victory in the Civil War.[3] He died on January 8 , 1825 at the age of 59

Although Lord High Chamberlain John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland, favoured the succession of his daughter-in-law, Lady Jane Grey, and proclaimed her queen on July 10, the country supported Mary. As a Roman Catholic, Mary began her reign by sweeping away the religious innovations of her father and her brother. Henry VIII had separated England from the Church in Rome; Edward VI had replaced Roman Catholicism with a Protestant settlement. Mary restored the Mass and re-established the authority of the papacy, but, although she handed back Crown property to the Church, Parliament refused to restore Church lands seized by Henry VIII. Furthermore, European and worldwide developments were heavily influenced by the aforementioned innovations in England. For example, the first recorded game outside of Europe took place in Argentina in 1867 and involved English workers in the country. Indeed, many clubs across the world today exist due to the efforts of British natives, Corinthians FC being a prime example. Moreover there is most likely a issue of consumer knowledge as well, which makes the companies produce a cheaper, less secured device then a more costly, better secured device, because the consumer prefers the cheaper version. As the IoT is a fairly new phenomeon, legislation which forces companies to enforce strict security measures hasn’t been passed. That might possibly be even beneficial, since hindering the progress and new solutions of IoT related innovations with strict law might not be the best way to proceed. How to fix issues regarding the IoT Since, ’’ security is the main concern for the IoT ’’ [11]. The first step to improve the security of the IoT devices should come from the vendors themselves. Russian philology

The first work in colloquial Russian, the autobiography of the archpriest Avvakum, emerged only in the mid-17th century. After taking the throne at the end of the 17th century, Peter the Great's influence on the Russian culture would extend far into the 18th century. Peter's reign during the beginning of the 18th century initiated a series of modernizing changes in Russian literature. The reforms he implemented encouraged Russian artists and scientists to make innovations in their crafts and fields with the intention of creating an economy and culture comparable. Peter's example set a precedent for the remainder of the 18th century as Russian writers began to form clear ideas about the proper use and progression of the Russian language. Through their debates regarding versification of the Russian language and tone of Russian literature, the writers in the first half of the 18th century were able to lay foundation for the more poignant, topical

their chance to dance and prance in the garden, taping words of wisdom and wit for the evening news, before the public and the celebrities turn up. The judges are there, clipboards in hand, marking displays for excellence in a number of categories. All this frustrates the ranks of photographers, lined up with their tripods, trying to photograph a pristine and empty garden. The Chelsea Flower Show 2002 surpassed itself with wonderful gardens and horticultural displays. The innovations this year, especially the introduction of more small garden displays, brought freshness to a Show first held in 1912. In 2004, the Great Pavilion replaced the long-standing Marquee. The Pavilion, like a huge covered tent, stretches over 12,000 square meters (14,352 square yards) and is the most visible structure on the grounds. Owen calls it a "treasure trove of international horticulture, research, and great ideas." It is ringed by the various

Metal movable type was invented in Korea during the Goryeo Dynasty (around 1230), but was not widely used: one reason being the enormous Chinese character set. Around 1450, in what is commonly regarded as an independent invention, Johannes Gutenberg invented movable type in Europe, along with innovations in casting the type based on a matrix and hand mould. This invention gradually made books less expensive to produce, and more widely available. A 15th century incunabulum. Notice the blind-tooled cover, corner bosses and clasps. Early printed books, single sheets and images which were created before the year 1501 in Europe are known as incunabula. A man born in

mode surveys, see De Leeuw, Dillman, and Hox (Chapter 16). A second major difference between modes is the presence versus the absence of an interviewer. There may be very good reasons to choose a method without interviewers and leave the locus of control with the respondents, such as ensuring more privacy and more time to reflect for respondents. Selfadministered questionnaires in general are described by De Leeuw and Hox in Chapter 13; technological innovations are described by Lozar Manfreda and Vehovar in Chapter 14 on Internet Surveys and by Miller Steiger and Conroy in Chapter 15 on Interactive Voice Response. On the other hand, using interviewers also has many positive points, especially when very complex questionnaires are used or when special tasks have to be performed. As Loosveldt states in Chapter 11: “…the task of the interviewer is more comprehensive and complex than merely asking

All four accept the validity of the others and a Muslim might choose any one that he or she finds agreeable, but other Islamic sects are believed to have departed from the majority by introducing innovations (bidah). There are also several orthodox theological or philosophical traditions within Sunnism. For example, the recent Salafi movement sees itself as restorationist and claims to derive its teachings from the original sources of Islam. Emergence of parties and the 1905 revolution The modernisation processes of Estonian society continued in the early 20th century -- industrialisation and urbanisation increase in production and consumption, the use of technological innovations, rapid development of the infrastructure and communications, brisk political activity and growing pluralism. The whole of society was greatly enlivened by the emergence of a new generation of Estonian politicians. In 1904, the Estonians achieved their first major political breakthrough: at the Tallinn municipal elections, the Estonian-Russian bloc gained a majority, defeating the Germans who had so far remained in power unchallenged

Innovatsiooni levib sotsiaalses süsteemis, mille esindajad suhtuvad innovatsiooni erinevalt. Sotsiaalse süsteemi liikmete poolt innovatsiooni omaksvõtmise järgi jagatakse sinna kuuluvad isikud viide kategooriasse: innovaatorid (innovators), varajased omaksvõtjad (early adopters),

It is about learning from your own failures on a weekly or even daily basis and by doing it you can improve your production system (see also chapter 3). 2.2.3 Lack of technological exploitation Implementing new technologies in the construction industry is seen as one possibility to improve the construction industrys productivity. Other industry sectors have already done it and adopted many new technological innovations, and because of this they have witnessed a great rise in efficiency and productivity. This is probably due to the peculiarities of the construction industry: one-of-a-kind 19 projects (basically the production of prototypes); site production (production units move through the product, unlike the case in manufacturing, where the product moves through assembly units on the
