Mangrove forest

MIS ON MANGROVE FOREST ÜLDSE? Mangrove swamps are found in tropical and subtropical tidal areas. Many mangrove forests can be recognized by their dense tangle of prop roots that make the trees appear to be standing on stilts above the water. This tangle of roots allows the trees to handle the daily rise and fall of tides, which means that most mangroves get flooded at least twice per day. The roots also slow the movement of tidal waters, causing sediments to settle out of the water and build up the muddy bottom. KAARDIGA SLAID Mangroves can be found in over 118 countries and territories in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world

A small adventure

All three of us put on our darkest clothes so no one could see us. We sneaked out of our room and ran over a big hilly field into the dark forest. Unfortunately a strict teacher saw us and started coming towards us. We freaked out and started running through the forest. Luckily the teacher gave up looking for us very easily, but to my horror we had lost each other. I decided to run through the forest to the beach. The way was really short and the forest wasn't dense either, but I was still a bit scared, because I was alone. When I got to the beach I saw Jane and Elisabeth. We were relieved and happy to find each other. We took some pictures and watched the sunset. In the next morning the strict teacher said nothing about last night and we enjoyed the rest of our summer camp. Kadri-Ann Lainde 9.a (223 words)

Chinchillas

Body length up to 26 cm. Average males weight 369493 g and females weigh 379450 g. The Chinchilla lanigera species, though rare, can be found in the wild. Domestic chinchillas are thought to come from the lanigera species. General info General color of upper parts is bluish or silvery gray, underparts are yellowish white. They can be also white. They mostly live in colder climates for which they are well adapted because of their dense fur. They are critically endangered. Chinchillas have a variety of defensive tactics including spraying urine and releasing fur if bitten. They mostly feed upon vegetation. In nature, chinchillas live in social groups that resemble colonies but are properly called herds. Chinchillas can breed any time of the year. Due to this long pregnancy, chinchillas are born fully furred and with eyes open. Litters are usually small in number, predominately twins.

Metallica concert review

for All (AJFA), it showed more of their technical side with well thought out phrasing and intricate guitar work, one Song in particular “To live is to Die” is what I consider their best instrumental and Metallica at its peak. One other thing that people don't seem to credit Metallica with is their lyrics. Their lyrical department has always been strong whether it's related to political tension, self-loathing, or social evils.Onto the concert review, I find their music very dense and satisfying. There are so many things happening, and all of them are very sweet and coherent. I think the key is that each of the band members put a significant amount of creative effort into each of their songs. Nothing is random or lazy- there’s a thought behind every little sound and nuance. That’s why they are so good for second, third, fourth listen. So much to explore, and when you find all of them and put them together, it’s so beautiful!

Saturn

Saturn's year equals 29 and one-half Earth years. A day on Saturn, though, is much shorter than an Earth day ;it rotates around once every ten and one-half hours (Kuhn 280-282). Saturn is the second largest planet in the solar system. Jupiter is the only planet that is larger. The gas giant is 72 thousand miles in diameter, almost ten times the size of Earth. In spite of its huge size, though, Saturn weighs very little. It is a very light gas planet. Saturn is the least dense planet in the solar system-- so light, in fact, that it would float in water. This planet is mostly composed of hydrogen and helium, like Jupiter, but it is much less dense. The combination of its light weight and fast rotation causes Saturn to spread out, or oblate, its center. Since Saturn is a gas planet, it does not have a solid surface. Spacecraft are unable to land on this type of surface. The clouds that are seen when looking at Saturn are just the top layer of a very deep layer that

• The thylacine held the title of Australia's largest predator until about 3500 years ago. • The thylacine resembled a large, short-haired dog with a stiff tail which smoothly extended from the body in a way similar to that of a kangaroo. • Its yellow-brown coat featured 13 to 21 distinctive dark stripes across its back, rump and the base of its tail, which earned the animal the nickname “tiger". • Its body hair was dense and soft, up to 15 mm (0.6 in) in length; in juveniles the tip of the tail had a crest. Extinction in Australia • The thylacine is likely to have become near- extinct in mainland Australia about 2,000 years ago, and possibly earlier in New Guinea. • The absolute extinction is attributed to competition from indigenous humans and invasive dingoes. • Humans had an adverse effect on the environment and brought disease to Australia

clay mix, so it forms more accurate, sharper-edged bricks. The greater force in pressing and the longer burn make this method more expensive. Extruded bricks (slide 11) For extruded bricks the clay is mixed with 20% water. This mixture is forced through a die to create a long cable of material of the desired width and depth. This mass is then cut into bricks of the desired length by a wall of wires. Most structural bricks are made by this method as it produces hard, dense bricks, and suitable dies can produce holes or other perforations as well. The introduction of such holes reduces the volume of clay needed, and hence the cost. Hollow bricks are lighter and easier to handle, and have different thermal properties than solid bricks. The cut bricks are hardened by drying for 20 to 40 hours at 50 to 150 °C before being fired. The heat for drying is often waste heat from the kiln. There is barely any vegetation in the tundra, only about 1700 different species. These are mostly shrubs, sedges, mosses, lichens and grasses. There are about 400 varieties of flowers. The growing season in arctic tundra is only about 60 days long. While trees can't send their roots down, there are no trees, except for some birches in the lower latitudes. Willows do grow on some parts of the tundra but only as low carpets about 8 cm high. Most plants grow in a dense mat of roots that has developed over thousands of years. The soil is very low in nutrients and minerals, except where animal droppings fertilize the soil. Although there isn't a lot of biodiversity, only 48 species of land mammals are found on the tundra, there are a lot of each species. These consist of slightly modified shrews, hares, rodents, wolves, foxes, bears and deer. There are huge herds of reindeer in North America that feed on lichens and plants. There are also

Their rigidity and verticality evoke the shape of a snow-capped mountain, while in the Great Wave the wave stands out because it is more active, dynamic, and aggressive, which make it threatening. Savanna

The removal of trees from savanna land removes the competition for water from the grasses present, and can lead to a two to fourfold increase in pasture production, as well as improving the quality of the feed available. Since stock carrying capacity is strongly correlated with herbage yield there can be major financial benefits from the removal of trees. The removal of trees also assists grazing management. For example in sheep grazing regions of dense tree and shrub cover harbours predators, leading to increased stock losses while woody plant cover hinders mustering in both sheep and cattle areas. A number of techniques have been employed to clear or kill woody plants in savanna. Early pastoralists used felling and ringbarking, the removal of a ring

The Cataclysmic Death of Stars

Once the star's core turns to solid iron--a sphere no bigger than Earth that weighs as much as the sun--its fate is sealed. In less than a second, the star will explode. Iron marks the end of the road because unlike lighter elements, iron atoms consume rather than create energy when they fuse. Fusion can no longer provide the energy to support the star's outer layers, and the core simply implodes. Usually the result is a neutron star, a stellar cinder so dense a teaspoon would weigh more than a billion tons. In the most massive stars the collapse leaves only a voracious pit called a black hole. At this point, Woosley believes--before the collapse somehow turns into an explosion--some supernovas unleash a blast of gamma rays. Woosley's interest in these bursts goes back decades, when they were so mysterious that over a hundred more or less serious ideas about their cause were in play, from "starquakes" to the exhaust plumes of alien spacecraft

hydrocarbon material buried deep enough for subterranean heat to cook it into oil; a porous and permeable reservoir rock for it to accumulate in; and a cap rock (seal) or other mechanism that prevents it from escaping to the surface. Within these reservoirs, fluids will typically organize themselves like a three-layer cake with a layer of water below the oil layer and a layer of gas above it, although the different layers vary in size between reservoirs. Because most hydrocarbons are less dense than rock or water, they often migrate upward through adjacent rock layers until either reaching the surface or becoming trapped within porous rocks (known as reservoirs) by impermeable rocks above. However, the process is influenced by underground water flows, causing oil to migrate hundreds of kilometres horizontally or even short distances downward before becoming trapped in a reservoir. When hydrocarbons are concentrated in a trap, an oil

The devil stores body fat in its tail and an unhealthy devil often has a thin tail. Unusually for a marsupial, its forelegs are slightly longer than its hind legs. Devils can run in bursts at the impressive speed of 13 kilometres per hour. Birds The Emu , is the largest bird native to Australia. The softfeathered, brown, flightless birds reach up to 2 m in height. The Emu is common over most of mainland Australia, although it avoids heavily populated areas, dense forest and arid areas. Emus can travel great distances at a fast, economical trot and, if necessary, can sprint at 50 km/h for some distance at a time. They are opportunistically nomadic and may travel long distances to find food; they feed on a variety of plants and insects. Kookaburras are best known for their unmistakable call which is uncannily like loud, echoing human laughter

Midwater pair trawling can be effective in different situations: when fish are aggregated into large dense shoals and when (at another season or time of the day or according to physiological status) fishes are regularly distributed within a given water layer. In addition to the difference it makes whether the fish are aggregated in a small volume or spread within a large one, fish may swim (and avoid the net) at different speeds according to its own physiological status and/or other external conditions. As a result, in addition to the fish which is targeted, other different conditions will affect

At the time Ottawa was no more than a small logging town in the backwoods and certainly the choice seemed arbitrary, as Toronto, Montreal and Quebec had all been vying to be chosen. Ottawa it was the only settlement of any significant size on the border between the two colonies and their respective mainly French and British populations, making it a compromise between the two colonies and their French and English populations. Ottawa was also well away from the border surrounded by a dense forest, and the War of 1812 had shown how vulnerable the principal Canadian cities were to American attack. Also, the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal network meant that Ottawa could be supplied by water from Kingston and Montreal without going along the potentially treacherous US-Canada border. Originally called Bytown after Colonel John By of the Royal Engineers who supervised the building of the Rideau Canal. 22. Development of nationalist and separatist movements in Quebec

In Shaw's defence, the standard gene symbols had not been defined in the 1950s and 1960s. Light tan/cafe-au-lait in Shaw's terminology is d/d, b/b. To a modern reader, d/d, b/b indicates lilac. This, as much as any visual similarity, helps explain why his Barrington Brown is so often confused with the dilute modifier. Shaw’s Chocolate alleles D+- = Normal colour (black/sepia) d/d = chocolate (in Shaw’ s words, Chocolate Dilution) Shaw’s Maltese alleles M+ = Dense colours e.g. black m/m = Maltese (or in our terms dilution) e.g. blue is the maltese of black Shaw's Barrington Brown allele B+ = Normal coat b/b = Barrington Brown Lilac (in Shaw's terminology) would be d/d, m/m = Dilution allele (chocolate) + Maltese allele = lilac. Lilac in modern terminology is b/b, d/d = Chocolate allele + dilution allele = lilac. Although there is no official modern symbol for the lost Barrington Brown, Ba is often used

generating no by-products. 8.2 Solar thermal heat Solar thermal(heat) energy is often used for heating swimming pools, heating water used in homes, and space heating of buildings. Solar space heating systems can be classified as passive or active. Passive space heating is what happens to your car on a hot summer day. In buildings, the air is circulated past a solar heat surface(s) and through the building by convection (i.e. less dense warm air tends to rise while more dense cooler air moves downward) . No mechanical equipment is needed for passive solar heating. Active heating systems require a collector to absorb and collect solar radiation. Fans or pumps are used to circulate the heated air or heat absorbing fluid. Active systems often include some type of energy storage system. 29 Picture 8.1. Solar cells Solar collectors can be either nonconcentrating or concentrating.

Konkreetsed suhete liigid tehakse iga uurimuse jaoks, kuid mõned olulised on korduvad: sugulus, töökohasuhted, elukohtade lähedus, sõpruskonnad. Aga neid võib

You do not need to be a scientist to read this book. For the geeks and the curious, however, I've included a lot of cool details. These details can often enhance your results but are not required reading. Such sections are boxed and labeled "Geek's Advantage" with a "GA" symbol. Even if you've been intimidated by science in the past, I encourage you to browse some of these GA sections--at least a few will o er some fun "holy sh*t!" moments and improve results 10% or so.

(Merely giving a second proper name of Boulanger would not have done the trick, unless you had previously associated that name with a description.) Or we could use "who" questions as a kind of testing, which might be called the "spot-check test." Suppose you used the name "Wilfrid Sellars," and I whip around and say "Who's that?" All you can reply, all that comes out, is "Um, the famous philosopher at Pittsburgh who wrote those really 36 Reference and referring dense books" or the like. In general, when asked "Who [or what] do you mean?" after one has just used a name, one immediately and instinctively comes up with a description, as an explanation of what one meant. John Searle (1958) made a similar appeal to learning and teaching: how do you teach a new proper name to a child, and how do you learn the referent of a particular name from someone else? In the first case, you produce one or more descriptions; in the latter, you elicit them.

has reached a certain high point in this work. The typical features of these symphonies are the tendency towards grief and depression shown in the diminishing of contrast between the themes. The laconic themes are followed by further images resembling fugitive short phrases. The developing process is conducted by logical constructive thinking, though the atonal harmony is no regulating factor. The sections of development, based on the elements of themes, are dense and terse. The vivid pulsation is like an unshakable frame and its incessant application creates tension. The mood of development is determined by the creative intention; according to it there may reign some “static of situation” (the second movement of the Eighth Symphony), and the temper could be transformed into a rebellious quick-acting movement, an avalanche of emotions (the third movement). The Eighth Symphony of Tubin is the most subjective, the last of his

The extremely wet and cold conditions that prevailed on site for most of the construction duration precluded direct use of a laptop or other computer to provide model views at the work face, and Funnly did not have any staff available who could operate modelling software. However, for a number of reasons, the 2D drawings produce by WSP from the model were often inadequate for the rebar installers. As explained above, the bridge reinforcing was dense and complex, and the drawings produced by the standard routines of Tekla Structures v13 were either overwhelmingly detailed or lacking in information. This created friction between the project participants. A number of specific technical lessons were learned and conclusions were conveyed to Tekla for improvement of the automated rebar drawing generation routines in future versions.
