California

approximately 5060 million, depending on which states are included
in the estimate.
· Major coastal cities on the West Coast include San Diego, Los

picture of a president.
Oregon
· Oregon is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Oregon is located
on the Pacific coast between Washington to the north, California to the south, Nevada
on the southeast and Idaho to the east. The area was inhabited by many indigenous
tribes before the arrival of traders, explorers and settlers.
· The Oregon Territory was created in 1848 after American settlement began in earnest in
the 1840s. Oregon became a state (33rd) on February 14, 1859.
· Oregon enjoys a diverse landscape including a scenic and windswept Pacific coastline,
the volcanoes of a rugged and glaciated Cascade Mountain Range, dense evergreen
forests, and high desert across much of the eastern portion of the state.
· The towering Douglas firs and redwoods along the rainy Western Oregon coast provide
a dramatic contrast with the lower density and fire prone pine tree and juniper forests
covering portions of the Eastern half of the state. The eastern portion of the state also
includes semiarid scrublands, prairies, deserts, and meadows. These drier areas stretch
east from Central Oregon. Mount Hood is the highest point in the state at 11,239 feet
(3,425 m) above sea-level. Crater Lake National Park is the only National Park in
Oregon.

capital and largest city is Phoenix. The second largest city is Tucson.

winters, but the high country in the north features pine forests and mountain ranges with
cooler weather than the lower deserts
· In addition to the Grand Canyon, many other national forests, parks, monuments, and Indian
reservations are located in the state.

northern Arizona. The canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of the world and is
largely contained in the Grand Canyon National Park--one of the first national parks in the

· The Canyon was created by the Colorado River cutting a channel over millions of years, and
is about 277 miles (446 km) long, ranges in width from 4 to 18 miles (6 to 29 kilometers)
and attains a depth of more than 1 mile (1.6 km). Nearly 2 billion years of the Earth's history
have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut through layer after layer of
sediment as the Colorado Plateaus have uplifted.

· Is a state located in the western region of the United States of America.
· The capital is Carson City and the largest city is Las Vegas. The state's nickname is "The Silver
State," due to the large number of silver deposits that were discovered and mined there.

state flag reflects the state's entry on the Union side during the American Civil War. Its first
settlement was called Mormon Station.

divorce proceedings, entertainment, legalized gambling and, in a few counties, legalized

growth that followed, at the close of the century Las Vegas was the most
