Tallinn Town Hall Square

a knights' tournament, a parrotshooting contest and the election of the May Count. Tallinn`s late Gothic Town Hall building is one of the most famed symbols of the city, recognized throughout Estonia as a venerable, unique architectural treasure. The Town Hall was established on the central square, probably at the beginning of 13th century. In 14021404, the building was substantially reconstructed. The exterior we know today dates from this period, and the basic room plan has also been preserved, as it was reconstructed for hosting receptions. The second floor was and still is the main floor, where the Citizen`s Hall, the Council Hall, a small kitchen and chancery are located and where festive receptions and concerts are held, just as they were in the Medieval days of yore. The threenave cellar hall is open to citizens and guests today as an exhibit hall. Summer 2004, the Town Hall celebrated its 600th anniversary.

Symbols The millions of colorful beaded necklaces thrown from floats are the most visible symbols and souvenirs of Mardi Gras. The tradition of throwing beads and small trinkets from Mardi Gras parade floats dates back almost as long as the parades themselves. Originally, the beaded necklaces were made from glass, but the Krewes switched to plastic in the mid 1900s. Throws started in the 1920s when Rex and a few other Krewes started throwing small trinkets. In addition, millions of cups, stuffed animals, plastic cups, small toys and even bags and toy coins known as "doubloons"are decorated with krewe logos and thrown to parade-watchers. During summer 2005, you have a possibility to reach Oti Manor by taking a flight from Finland (Helsinki Vantaa Airport) or from Sweden (Stockholm Arlanda Airport) to Kuressaare, where you can rent a car. Oti Manor is less than an hour drive from Kuressaare. HISTORY The oldest manor in Saaremaa, Oti (Peudorf in German) was privatized already in the beginning of the 14th century. In these populated and fertile areas, the first fiefdoms were created. The first information concerning Oti manor dates from the year 1309. Edward the Confessor & Westminster Abbey

In total approximately 3300 people are buried in the Church and cloisters. Some of the most famous are Charles Darwin, Sir Isaac Newton and David Livingstone. The history of the abbey starts in 1050, when King Edward The Confessor decided to build an abbey. Only a small part of this original Norman monastery, consecrated in 1065, survived. The only representation of this original building is shown on the Bayeux Tapestry. Most of the present building dates from 1245 to 1272 when Henry III decided to rebuild the abbey in the gothic style. Large parts were later added: the Chapel of Henry VII was added between 1503 and 1512, while the two West Front Towers date from 1745. The North entrance which was completed in the 19th century, is the youngest part of the abbey. 1) The Nave 2) The Cloyster
