Cream tea
A cream tea consist of tea, scones, clotted cream, and jam – usually strawberry jam. We can’t be sure of the exact place where it came from but it is known that the monks served a cream tea at Tavistok Abbey in Devon (short for Devonshire) in the 11’th century .
Clotted cream must go on top of the scone in a cream tea. Clotted cream is similar to soft butter and can also be used instead of butter in toffees. In the olden days milk was left to stand for some time so that the cream would rise to the topp . This cream was put into big pans which were kept in boiling water. That way the cream became much thicker snd looked like butter.
In the past, clotted cream was only produced in the West Country – Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, and Dorset. This is the part of the country where the rich soil, mild climate, and the breed of cows came together to create milk with a high enough cream content to produce clotted cream.
Scones are made from eggs, milk, butter, and flour – ingredients you can find on a farm – and that’s where scones with clotted cream and jam originally came from. They are harder than cakes but softer than biscuits. Scones are best served warm from the oven and should be eaten on the same day they are made.
Tea is the best drink to have with cream tea. Take your tea with milk or without . You won’t need much sugar as the ja mis sweet enough. The teapot is very important for a good cup of tea and your tea tastes better from a china cup.
There are two different ways toe at a cream tea: in Devon the scone is cut in half , both halvess are covered with clotted cream and then ateaspoon of strawberry ja mis added to the topp, in Cornwall the scone should first be buttered so that the butter melts into it, then it is speard with strawberry jam and a spoonful of clotted cream is finally put on topp.
Traditionally, the ideal time for a cream tea was at four . After working hard all day, the farmer would be very hungry and thirsty. His wife wouldn’t have had any time to cook four full meals a day. Some scones and tea were more than enough for the hungry farmer who had been working in the field with his horses .
  • A cream tea is called Devonshire tea because the monks served a cream tea at Tavistok Abbey in Devon.
  • Clotted cream is like soft butter.
  • To make scones you need eggs, milk, butter and flour.
  • Scones are best when they are served warm from the oven and should be eaten of the same day they are made.
  • In Cornwall people put first butter the scone; then add strawberry jam and then put clotted cream on top.

British Cuisine Some people criticize English food. They say it's unimaginable, boring, tasteless, it's chips with everything and totally overcooked vegetables. The basic ingredients, when fresh, are so full of flavour that British haven't had to invent sauces to disguise their natural taste. What can compare with fresh pees or new potatoes just boiled and served with butter? Why drown spring lamb in wine or cream and spices, when with just one or two herbs it is absolutely delicious? If you ask foreigners to name some typically English dishes, they will probably say "Fish and chips" then stop. It is disappointing, but true that, there is no tradition in England of eating in restaurants, because the food doesn't lend itself to such preparation. English cooking is found at home. So it is difficult to a good English restaurant with a reasonable prices. In most cities in Britain you'll find Indian, Chinese, French and Italian restaurants. In London you'll also find Indonesian,

Main Sights England is known for its many world-famous sightseeings and people all around the world come to see them. Some of them are even like symbols of England. The most famous ones are: Stonehenge is one of the greatest national icons of Britain. That prehistoric monument is located in the plain of Salisbury, in the county of Wiltshire in the south-west of England. It is built of 150 enormous stones which are set in a purposive circular pattern. Stonehenge was probably built to mark the longest and shortest day of the year because it lies on the line of the midsummer sunrise and the midsummer sunset. That would have enabled people to keep a record of changing of seasons. Although it is still unclear who built it. Hadrian’s Wall is an ancient wall which was built in 2nd century by Hadrian, the emperor of Rome from AD 117 to 138, and it marked the northern border of the Roman Empire in Britain. The wall was 80 Roman miles (117 kilometres) long and it is situated in northern Great
