An event in my childhood

My childhood story Whenever I think about my childhood, one story comes to my mind. A story I am proud of. It’s about how I helped my one year older brother when he got stung by a bee. It’s not just an ordinary story because my brother, back then, was allergic to bees. And because of that I may have saved his life. It all began on a sunny summer day at my grandfather’s country home. We had a dog back then and he had his own fenced garden with a doghouse in it. Me and my brother were just fooling around outside doing funny stuff. At some point he decided to go let the dog out. The poles that were holding the fence up were holo inside and the bees thought that it was a great place to make a hive in. I can’t...

Blandings Castle

Freddie is a caring husband and he loves her wife very much (Quotes 1,2). Freddie has a deep, personal connection with his cousin Gertrude. They grew up together and because of that they have a trust between them. They keep each other's secrets and help each other out in case of trouble. Also, if something seems to be wrong then they are not afraid to speak is clear with each other. They are almost like a brother and a sister. That is probably because they grew up together like brothers and sisters do (Quotes 6,9). Freddie's relationship with his father, Lord Emsworth, is more than extraordinary. They are not like fathers and sons usually are. Instead, they have a sort of a love-hate relationship without the love and hate parts. At times, they are quite neutral to each other and they get along just fine. At other times they cannot stand each other one bit. Their relationship turns towards...

Famous castles of Scotland

The setting is among scenic rolling foothills of the Grampian Mountains. The contrast of its massive lower story structure to the finely sculpted multiple turrets, gargoyles and high corbelling work create a classic fairytale appearance. An excellent example of the original Scottish Baronial architecture, the great seven-storey castle was completed in 1626 by the Aberdonian merchant William Forbes, ancestor to the "Forbes-Sempill family" and brother of the Bishop of Aberdeen. Forbes purchased the partially completed structure from the impoverished Mortimer family in the year 1610. William Forbes nickname was Danzig Willy, a reference to his shrewd international trading success. The Forbes family resided here for 350 years until 1963, when the property was gifted to the National Trust for Scotland.Designed in the L plan, as was Muchalls Castle, which is located in the same region, Craigievar is noted for its...

Exposing the Human Condition in Antigone

A hero can also mean courage in the face of death. Others may view this type of hero as stupid, or a martyr. Every hero has faults and these faults along with heroic deeds make the man or woman; a hero, heroine. "Antigone" would be considered a hero in the sense of being a martyr. Because of her love for her family Antigone wanted to give her brother a proper burial, and even though he did evil deeds, she respected him. She believed that all of the dead were in a state of equality. When faced with the decision to obey the King or obey her heart, she says on page 23, in lines 86-90: "I will bury him myself./If I die for doing that, good:/I will stay with him, brother;/and my crime will be devotion." This decision, to bury her brother, was very heroic in that even though she knew death was at stake, she knew where her loyalties lied....

Carl Lewis

admire Bob Beamon: he was so impressed that after the jump of 8,90 m he went out with a friend to take the length of a limousine in order to realize how far Bob flied! But for the moment Carl was really thin, so thin that the doctor suggested to make him do sports. His education, beyond studies, embraced a lot of fields. He learnt to play musical instruments, to dance, to sing and applied himself to a large variety of sports: football, soccer (he played with his brother Cleveland as a forward!), diving and, obviously, athletics. As he himself tells, he wasn't good at sport. A lot of boys did better at the same age and he was regularly beaten by his sister Carol in the track his parents constructed for them around the garden of their house! Amazingly his father was a friend of Jesse Owens and so Carl grew up under the legend of this man who won four gold medals in the Olympic games of Berlin 1936. Carl begun with...

She died when Douglass was about 7. The identity of Douglass' father is obscure; Douglass originally stated that his father was a white man, perhaps his master, Captain Aaron Anthony, but later said he knew nothing of his father's identity. When Anthony died, Douglass was given to Mrs. Lucretia Auld, wife of Captain Thomas Auld. Mrs. Auld then sent Douglass to Baltimore to serve the Captain's brother , Hugh Auld. Early education When Douglass was 12 years old, Hugh Auld's wife, Sophia, broke the law by teaching him some letters of the alphabet. Thereafter, as detailed in his Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave (published in 1845), Douglass succeeded in learning to read from white children in the neighborhood in which he lived, and by observing the writings of the men with whom he worked.
