The statement is further supported by the fact that occupancy drops with the decrease of influx of business people. The occupancy drops significantly in the July and August which is probably due to the fact that businesses generally run slower in that part of the summer (due to plague of vacations) in the northern hemisphere on latitudes with explicit seasonal changes. Therefore, the hotel
characters are talking about it straightly, it is not a hidden part in Noir anymore. For example there is a part of the dialogue in closing scene, Madeline: ``You`d rather fuck me than kill me.`` The film was made in 2006, however, set in 1947. Because of this, houses and design of the rooms depict the time. There are certain behaviour rules, formality. In the closing scene the audience sees much restriction of the rules. Codes and conventions connected to this genre are easily distinguisable. Still, ``The Black Dahlia`` is playing, developing the noir style. Two of the most important conventions in Film Noir are anti-hero and femme fatale. Anti-hero, detective Bucky Bleichert, in this particular case is played by Josh Hartnett. In older Noir movies, anti-hero is usually a detective, dominant, commited, confident and he has a personal motivator why he needs to sort out the mystery within the story. (Mystery
Written task 2 - Outline Prescribed question: How does the text conform to, or deviate from, the conventions of a particular genre and for what purpose? Title of the text for analysis: I have a dream by Martin Luther King Jr, 1963. The part of the course to which the task refers: Part 2: Language and presentation of speeches and campaigns. An epic is a lengthy narrative poem, ordinarily concerning a serious subject containing details of heroic deeds and events significant to a culture or nation. Nonetheless, epics have been written down at least since the works of Virgil, Dante Alighieri, and John Milton. Many probably would not have survived if not written down. The first epics are known as primary, or original, epics. One such epic is the Old English story Beowulf. Epic Conventions, or characteristics common to both types include: 1. The hero is a figure of great national or even cosmic importance, usually the ideal man of his culture. He often has superhuman or divine traits. He has an imposing physical stature and is greater in all ways than the common man. 2. The setting is vast in scope. It covers great geographical distances, perhaps even visiting the underworld, other wortlds, other times. 3

the British Parliament,Westminster Parliament or simply "Westminster". The British constitution has envolved over many centuries and unlike many other nations, the UK has no single constitutional documents. But Britain does, however, have certain important constitutional documents, including Magna Carta, Bill of Rights and Reform Act. It is formed partly by statue law, partly by common law and partly by conventions. Fundamental law doesn´t exist in the United Kingdom. There can be distinguish three separate organs: the legislature, the executive and the judiciary. Parliament, the law-making body, consists of three elements: the Monarchy, the House of Commons and the House of Lords. They meet together only on occasions of ceremonial significance, such as the state opening of Parliament. The Monarch's principle function is to carry out certain ceremonial duties. The Queen is regarded as
PIL regulates relations between states. Thats why PIL is important for international relation students. PIL influences the life of everybody, it doesn't regulate people directly but indirectly (through the decisions of the states), because it's everywhere. It's like air. E.g. when you want to send a letter to Brazil, you put a stamp from your own country and send it from your post office and the letter gets delivered. Why is this so easy, because there are certain international conventions that regulate postal services. E.g. traffic signs are almost the same everywhere, why? Because of certain int conventions that require the states to have more or less unified traffic signs. States apply international regulations to national regulations and they have to be in accordance with each other, the states can always specify these regulations. Therefore, PIL regulates people indirectly. Another unique feature: domestic law sources have a clear pyramid (top to bottom:

His literary career had achieved notoriety with the publication of "The Picture Of Dorian Gray". Oscar and Constance now had two sons whom they both loved very much. But one evening, Robert Ross, a young Canadian houseguest, seduced Oscar and forced him finally to confront the homosexual feelings that had gripped him since his schooldays. Oscar's work thrived on the realisation that he was gay, but his private life flew increasingly in the face of the decidedly anti-homosexual conventions of late Victorian society. As his literary career flourished, the risk of a huge scandal grew ever larger. In 1892, on the first night of his acclaimed play "Lady Windermere's Fan", Oscar was re- introduced to a handsome young Oxford undergraduate, Lord Alfred Douglas, nicknamed "Bosie". Oscar was mesmerised by the cocky, dashing and intelligent young man and began the passionate and stormy relationship which consumed and ultimately destroyed him.

A large part of pop culture consists of stories which have the ability to change a person his take on life, taste in music and books, how to treat other people etc. It may seem simple and pointless but all the devoted fans, all the trekkies, warsies, twihards, potterheads and ringers (there are many more, with crazier names) prove us that stories can become more than entertainment. Of course, a story can change people without making them go to all sorts of conventions. Even the small ideas make a change. The main part in a story, the one that seemingly makes the impact, who guides the consumer through its change, is the protagonist. The development in the reader or the watcher happens through the transformation of the hero. Usually the main character starts off as an outcast, somebody the society sees as unimportant or too strange. Then something happens that sends the hero on an adventure. The breaking point on his road is meeting a teacher an encounter
under the Stuart monarchs. 6. The first manifestations of the Renaissance in English literature. The first major impact of the Renaissance on English literature is observable in the poetry of Wyatt and Surrey, who introduced and Anglicized the sonnet, a verse form that has proved to be both popular and durable. Surrey is credited also with inventing English blank verse. Other verse forms, borrowed from the Italian and French, had a lesser impact. Elaborate Renaissance conventions of love poetry were also transplanted, finding their outlet chiefly in sonnets and sonnet sequences. 7. Which events diminished the power of the Catholic Church in England? Two events occurred that were inimical to the influence of the Catholic Church. The 1st was Martin Luther's posting of his Ninety-five Theses on a church door in Wittenberg, Germany, in 1517, an act which heralded the Reformation. The 2nd event was brought

Was he a good person? Stout and brawny, the Miller has a wart on his nose and a big mouth, both literally and figuratively. He threatens the Host's notion of propriety when he drunkenly insists on telling the second tale. Indeed, the Miller seems to enjoy overturning all conventions: he ruins the Host's carefully planned storytelling order; he rips doors off hinges; and he tells a tale that is somewhat blasphemous, ridiculing religious clerks, scholarly clerks, carpenters, and women. The Manciple (est: AIDAMEES): Where does he work? What are his duties? How had he become rich? A manciple was in charge of getting provisions for a college or court. Despite his lack of education, this Manciple is smarter than the thirty lawyers he feeds.

Maven is a build automation tool used primarily for Java projects. The word maven means 'accumulator of knowledge' in Yiddish.[3]Maven addresses two aspects of building software: First, it describes how software is built, and second, it describes its dependencies. Contrary to preceding tools like Apache Ant, it uses conventions for the build procedure, and only exceptions need to be written down. An XML file describes the software project being built, its dependencies on other external modules and components, the build order, directories, and required plug-ins. It comes with pre-defined targets for performing certain well-defined tasks such as compilation of code and its packaging. Maven dynamically downloads Java libraries and Maven plug-ins from one or more repositories such as the Maven 2 Central

The `fathers' can be seen as the contemporaries of the "superfluous man" and romantic idealists, who had a carefully shaped taste of arts and sense in beauty. Vishnyakova (2011) puts it, "The "fathers" were reading the German idealists, admired French romanticism, unconditionally worshiped beauty, and strongly believed in a hierarchy of moral values that were not human conventions." Indeed, this characterisation is mainly brought forward by typical Turgenev's literary tools; he presents his `fathers' with a radically different generation of `nihilists' and from this contrast, the main critique and description of the very generation of Turgenev himself arises. Freeborn (1960:99) comments that radicalism/nihilism (Turgenev used radicalism) aimed to "to present as objectively as possible the ideological and class

The candidates who win the most votes within a state receive all its Electoral College votes, no matter how small the majority. Presidential candidates are selected by their respective party's national conventions in the summer of each election year. The delegates attending that convention are associated with a particular candidate and are normally chosen either at state conventions of party member or at state primary elections held in the preceding month. In a closed primary only registered party members can vote, while in an open primary any voter can participate. 15. Symbols * The Flag The United States flag has 13 stripes. " Garrison was likewise impressed with Douglass, and mentioned him in the 'Liberator'. Several days later, Douglass gave his first speech at the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society's annual convention in Nantucket. Twenty-three years old at the time, Douglass later said that his legs were shaking. He conquered his nervousness and gave an eloquent speech about his rough life as a slave. In 1843, Douglass participated in the American Anti-Slavery Society's Hundred Conventions project, a six month tour of meeting halls throughout the east and middle west of the United States. He participated in the Seneca Falls Convention, the birthplace of the American feminist movement, and was a signatory of its Declaration of Sentiments. Douglass later became the publisher of a series of newspapers: North Star, Frederick Douglass Weekly, Frederick Douglass' Paper, Douglass' Monthly and New National Era.

Since 9/11 and the following fight against terrorism it became clear that the Bush administration thought of torture as something justifiable while it goes against all possible agreed upon treaties and conventions. One could indeed possibly think of situations that could serve as an exception to the prohibition of torture but these hypothetical situations can hardly relate to real situations. The ticking bomb argument looks at the hypothetical case where a leader of a state is asked to give their permission to torture a captured rebel leader because he (probably) knows the locations of a few explosives that are spread around the city in different apartment buildings
and demonstrate performance. These are often, but not always, quantitative. A given aspect (water) may have several indicators (e.g., total water use, rate of water recycling, discharges to water bodies). The balance between quantitative and qualitative indicators will vary by aspect depending on a range of factors. Indicators have been aligned to the maximum degree possible with existing international conventions and agreements. Indicator Classifications GRI does not seek to divide performance indicators into types based on the content or nature of the indicator, but rather generally organises according to the relevance of the issue to stakeholders. GRI performance indicators are classified along the following lines: Core indicators, in general, are: 1) those relevant to most reporters; and 2) of interest to most stakeholders.

Studying should allow learners to increase their knowledge of the target culture in terms of people’s way of life, values, attitudes, and beliefs, national symbols etc. Foreign language learning is comprised of several components, including grammatical competence, communicative competence, language proficiency, as well as a change in attitudes towards one’s own or another culture. Cultural competence, i.e., the knowledge of the conventions, customs, beliefs, and systems of meaning of another country, is indisputably an integral part of foreign language learning. At any rate, foreign language learning is foreign culture learning, and, in one form or another, culture has been taught in the foreign language classroom. Cultural knowledge is not only an aspect of communicative competence, but an educational objective in its own right. Culture and communication are inseparable because culture not only dictates who talks to whom,
One strength of this definition is the questions it invites software teams to consider, such as "Who are the people we want to value our software?" and "What will be valuable to them?". Source code quality To a computer, there is no real concept of "well-written" source code. However, to a human, the way a program is written can have some important consequences for the human maintainers. Many source code programming style guides, which stress readability and some language-specific conventions are aimed at the maintenance of the software source code, which involves debugging and updating. Other issues also come into considering whether code is well written, such as the logical structuring of the code into manageable sections. Readability Ease of maintenance, testing, debugging, fixing, modification and portability Low complexity Low resource consumption: memory, CPU Number of compilation or lint warnings Methods to improve the quality: refactoring. 49. obscurantism," which he saw as manifestations of the backwardness Peter attempted to correct through his reforms. Kantemir honored this tradition of reform not only through his support for Peter, but by initiating a decade-long debate on the proper syllabic versification using the Russian language. Vasily Kirillovich Trediakovsky, a poet, playwright, essayist, translator and contemporary to Antiokh Kantemir, also found himself deeply entrenched in Enlightenment conventions in his work with the Russian Academy of Sciences and his groundbreaking translations of French and classical works to the Russian language. A turning point in the course of Russian literature, his translation of Paul Tallemant's work Voyage to the Isle of Love, was the first to use the Russian vernacular as opposed the formal and outdated Church-Slavonic. This introduction set a precedent for secular works to be composed in the vernacular, while sacred texts would remain in Church-Slavonic
restaurants. When the restaurants make enough money to become upscale, they close shop, pack up their cooking equipment, and move into other neighbourhoods. Every year, Africans spend billions of dollars in travel and in holding their own organizational meetings and functions. I am talking of literally billions of dollars. These meetings are planned well in advance and cities and even states fight for the business of having these organizations hold their conventions in their cities or states. But you know the saddest thing: none of these convention centres or hotels where they are held are owned by Africans. None of the billions of dollars is really coming back into the community. Though a few Africans are employed for window-dressing, the real money does not come into the community, but goes to the investors. It is not only the major African organizations that are at fault here
( N o t e to men: If in doubt on this point, consult the nearest woman.) THE C O M P U T E R CHALLENGE S h o r t l y after the first edition o f this book came out, a few people (threshold guardians) jumped up to say the technology of the Hero's Journey is already ob solete, thanks to the advent of the computer and its possibilities of interactivity and nonlinear narrative. According to this batch of critics, the ancient ideas of the Journey are hopelessly mired in the conventions of beginning, middle, and end, of cause and effect, of one event after another. T h e new wave, they said, would dethrone the old linear storyteller, empowering people to tell their own stories in any sequence they chose, leaping from point to point, weaving stories more like spider webs than linear strings of events. It's true that exciting new possibilities are created by computers and the non linear thinking they encourage

And similarly for "Slab," "Hello," "Ouch," "I do," and other Wittgensteinian examples of expressions whose uses are defined by local rituals or customs. But our ability to understand and act on long novel sentences cannot be the product of our knowing conventions directed upon those utterances, for no conventions have ever been directed upon those utterances. The Wittgensteinian must grant that we understand novel sentences com- positionally, in virtue of understanding the individual words that occur in them and working out the sentences' overall meanings from the way in which the individual words are strung together. (We shall have a great deal more to say about this in chapter 9.) It follows that what is understood, that is, a

2D technology is appropriate. And in some cases, it’s still faster than 3D.” (Weisenberger, 2007). 1.6. Design In traditional architectural practice, contract documents, including technical plans and specifications capture the intent of the building to be constructed. These documents are handed over to the builder who is responsible for the execution of ‘means and methods’ complying with the design intent (Allen, Becerik, Pollalis, & Schwegler, 2005). Thus, practice conventions require communication via working drawings that are being translated by contractors, manufacturers, subcontractors, and consultants, for constructability review and shop drawing development (Pietroforte, 1995). The use of complex surfaces creates ambiguities when the designer attempts to transcribe the model into paper format. On complex-shaped buildings, architects are representing the global geometries of external surfaces in 3D – including roofs, cladding, glazing
