Summary

In this summary I will analyse three articles on the topic of whether it is justified and morally right to use drone warfare in the tribal areas of Pakistan and in Gaza.
To begin , we do not know if the drones have done more harm or good in the tribal areas of Pakistan. Most of the information about drone attacks is coming from dubious Pakistan media, which we cannot seriously rely on. Hence, we cannot be sure if the persons killed by drones were innocent civilians or extremists. (Fair, 2013)
One the one hand , using drones can be more discriminate, because they hover over the enemy for hours and wait for the perfect moment to attack, when there are no innocent people who might get injured. (Beautmont, 2012) On the other hand, it means that after watching and killing their targets, they continue hovering over villages, which affects people’s psychology. (Owen, 2013)
New York Times journalist David Rohde, who was kidnapped by the Taliban, said that: “The buzz of a distant propeller is a constant reminder of imminent death .” (Owen, 2013)
Because of the drone-induced anxieties, most kids in Waziristan no longer attend school. People avoid daily activities such as grocery shopping , farming, and driving . People worry constantly about their immediate future, this kind of behaviour is symptomatic of “anticipatory anxiety ”. Which causes emotional breakdowns, running indoors for safety , hiding during the day, having nightmares, and other anxiety- related problems which dramatically affect their ability to live their lives . They have trust issues and desire for revenge. (Owen, 2013) Nevertheless, drone warfare is as horrible as a Tomahawk cruise missile fired from a distant ship or a bomb dropped by a high- flying fighter plane . (Beautmont, 2012)
Now, unlike a jet pilot or artilleryman who cannot see the target , aircrafts remote pilot can see the target it is about to hit. Thus, some drone operators feel as much guilt as those who kill at close quarters, because they spend so much time intimately observing their targets. (Beautmont, 2012)
When considering the safety of innocent people, using drones is the safest way to eliminate a potential threat in troubled areas. The tribal areas are not governed by Pakistan´ s constitution. Therefore , there are no police forces, only military forces, which means that extremists cannot be arrested without ground operations. Pakistani ground operations however , are not as precise and safe as using drones. (Fair, 2013)
The use of drones brings back to the subject of intent and “kill lists ”. Therefrom, people are questioning its morality. Naturally, it is vital to put a lot of effort in identifying the civilians from the combatants and protecting them . This is the moral responsibility that needs to be taken into account when targeting extremists. (Beautmont, 2012)
Using drones when fighting a war is proven to be strategically beneficial and more humane than its alternatives. However, when analysing their usefulness in war, we also need to take into account the long-term implications of widespread psychological warfare. (Owen, 2013)
To summarise, using drones may not be desirable, as well as any other way of killing. Still , I think it is the best option at the tribal areas.

Public International Law is a system of law

Public International Law is a system of law, different from domestic law. Why is this system unique? Usually law regulates relations between people, people and the state etc, PIL regulates relations between states. Thats why PIL is important for international relation students. PIL influences the life of everybody, it doesn't regulate people directly but indirectly (through the decisions of the states), because it's everywhere. It's like air. E.g. when you want to send a letter to Brazil, you put a stamp from your own country and send it from your post office and the letter gets delivered. Why is this so easy, because there are certain international conventions that regulate postal services. E.g. traffic signs are almost the same everywhere, why? Because of certain int conventions that require the states to have more or less unified traffic signs. States apply international regulations to national regulations and they have to be in accordance with each other, the s

THE CAPITALIST NIGER

THE CAPITALIST NIGER Chika Onyeani ………………………Every African must internalise this book - period….DAA INTRODUCTION In October 1960, Nigeria received its independence from Britain. By then, Ghana the former Gold Coast had been independent for three years under the great Osagyefo Kwame Nkumah. It was a time for celebrating Africa’s coming of age, as more and more African countries received their independence either from Britain or France. It was especially a poignant time for Africa, as then British Prime Minister Harold McMillan articulated his now famous “winds of change” sweeping Africa. We had high hopes for Africa, for the Black race, that the insidious imposition of foreign rule on us, the looting of Africa’s natural resources by our colonial masters accorded us would be things of history. That is more than forty years ago. Unfortunately, the promise of independence has not been fulfilled. Today, Africa has become more desolate; there is more starvation

Law-makers breaking the law: torture as a justified interrogation technique?

are damaging to the identity of the group (Twinning, 1973). Why torture is never justifiable Retribution The consequences of challenging a person suspected of being part of an organized and violent terrorist network can bring exactly the opposite of maximum happiness, or exactly the opposite of minimum pain and suffering. In the end of last year, Senate Intelligence Chairman Dianne Feinstein released the executive summary of the committee’s five-year review of the CIA’s detention and interrogation program. Also in this, the US Senate has recognized that “there are those who will seize upon the report and say “see what Americans did,” and they will try to use it to justify evil actions or to incite more violence“ (Feinstein, 2014). Wasting valuable time It is important to note that utilitarians only categorized things as either good or bad. If a

E.M.Remarque "Läänerindel Muutuseta"

All Quiet on the Western Front Erich Maria Remarque Character List Paul Bäumer - A young German soldier fighting in the trenches during World War I. Paul is the protagonist and narrator of the novel. He is, at heart, a kind, compas-sionate, and sensitive young man, but the brutal expe-rience of warfare teaches him to detach himself from his feelings. His account of the war is a bitter invective against sentimental, romantic ideals of warfare. Read an in-depth analysis of Paul Bäumer. Stanislaus Katczinsky - A soldier belonging to Paul's company and Paul's best friend in the army. Kat, as he is known, is forty years old at the beginning of the novel and has a family at home. He is a resourceful, inventive man and always finds food, clothing, and blankets whenever he and his friends need them. Albert Kropp - One of Paul's classmates who serves with Paul in the Second Company. An intelligent, speculative young man, Kropp is one of Paul's closest friends during the war. His interest

Inglise keele kodulugemine teemal: Mass Media

Mass Media What is Mass Media? Statistics show that there are few things which impact the human mind more than mass media. The advice of teachers, parents and relatives may fall on deaf ears, but the mass media influence holds us all spellbound! At this point, it becomes necessary to define mass media. Mass media may be defined as any form of communication which is meted out to the people at large, through the various forms of communication. What modes of communication are we talking about? Well there can be no static definition for the channels of mass communication as they are increasing all the time. But any form of communication which is seen and understood by a large mass of people can be taken to mean mass communication or mass media channels. Why is mass media so attractive to people? Mass media holds a kind of mystique in the minds of the people. It is because the communication is designed in such a way that it appeals to a larger demographic

Education

Education Education is so multifaceted that it is difficult for me to know where to begin discussing it, or how to prioritize the many factors. Relaying my own experience is easy: I had a standard classroom approach, supplemented by inordinate reading. In only the briefest and least memorable instances did I receive any individual tutoring. Education is commonly thought of as the job of schools. Adults cry "educate our children!" Everyone has opinions about the best way to do the job. It is of urgent importance, and all the numerous factors are much studied, debated, and new (or old) ideas continually tested or retested. Some people say "it's as simple as . . . " and then name their pet peeve or passion. My view is not of an education specialist, but of one who loves sharing what I learn, and owes much to educators. Since I don't have an educational theory neatly worked-out, nor an outline of my perceptions, my intent is to address each educational ingredient that comes to my m
