Tourism a threat to the environment?

Tourism a threat to the environment? Tourism defently has affects to our environment. Size of effect depends on the population of the area visits, but it is not only thing that affects the nature. Tourism affects our environment positively and negatively. For example of positive effect would be that, people who organize hikes take care of pathways and camping places. If they had not built the camp sites for tourists there would be overgrown forest. So may say that thanks to the good and decents businesses are our surroundings clean and pleasant to everyone who like to spend some time and relax in wild. Tourism has a negative impact to environment if a large number of events are organized in a inappropriate sites. Usually people throw garbage and empty packages down when they stay overnight or just party. In addition too many people on one land may damage the plants under their feet. Besides nature decorative effect...

Halloween

Halloween Halloween is a holiday in many English speaking countries that is celebrated on the night of October 31st. Children wear costumes and they go to peoples' homes saying "Trick or treat!" to ask for candy, sweets. This practice originally involved a threat. A threat is when someone says that they will do something bad if they do not get what they want. In this case the threat could be explained as: "Give me a treat or I will play a trick on you." Children today usually do not play tricks if they do not get treats. However, some children still get up to mischief (pranks or things to make fun of people; like putting toilet paper in trees; writing on windows with soap or throwing eggs at peoples' houses). People sometimes dress up as ghosts, witches, goblins and other scary things for Halloween. A jack-o-lantern is typically a carved pumpkin. It is associated

Terrorism and fighting against it

oppression and an unforgivable abomination. Obviously, a lot depends on whose point of view it is being represented. Terrorism has often been an effective tactic for the weaker side in a conflict. Terrorism is most common in nations with the average political freedom, and is least common in the most democratic nations. In some cases, terrorism has been a means to carry on a conflict without the antagonist realizing the nature of the threat, mistaking terrorism for criminal activity. Because of these characteristics, terrorism has become increasingly common among those extreme goals throughout the world. But despite its popularity, terrorism can be a confusing concept. Even within the U.S. Government, agencies responsible for different functions in the ongoing fight against terrorism use different definitions. The United States Department of Defense defines terrorism as "the calculated use of

Permitting machines to take human life in warfare or in law enforcement and other circumstances raises a host of serious ethical, legal, moral, societal and other concerns. The principle of NATO is that security of each member states depends on security of all its members. If there is a threat to one's security, it concerns everyone. Central and Eastern Europe, including Estonia, fell under the influence of the Soviet Union or even became part of it after the Second World War. It was the time when twelve western states from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean established the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) on 4 April 1949. NATO was founded to balance out a threat coming from the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Treaty. NATO founding members were committed to defend each other in case of military aggression against any of the members. The Soviet Union collapsed in winter 1991 and the antagonism to the Soviet Union disappeared. As a result, countries of Eastern and Central Europe became partners of NATO, later member states (e.g. Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland joined NATO in 1999).

Halloween

Halloween also known by Halloween or All Hallow's Eve is an annual holiday observed around the world on October 31, the night preceding All Saints Day. Typical Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, attending costume parties, carving jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, watching horror films, as well as praying and attending vigils or church services.Trick-or- treating is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. flourish in the shade of taller trees. Yew trees are often found lining cemeteries and churchyards Ancient yews Yews are slow-growing and long-lived, and are often associated with cemeteries where the trees grow undisturbed. There are many European yews whose age has been analyzed to be many hundreds of years old. The oldest yew on record is the Fortingall Yew in Perthshire, Scotland, which is estimated to be around 5,000 years old Under threat European Yews are a threatened species because they never fully succeeded in regenerating after deforestation, and due to the modern day over-harvesting for Taxol. They have always been considered a trash tree and are thus threatened by deforestation.

Britain in WW I

They didn't want to ruin the situation that they had: during the late 19th century, Britain's primary goal in foreign policy was to maintain the balance of power in Europe and to intervene should that balance be upset. Its secondary goal was to protect its overseas interest in the colonies and dominions, as free trade was what kept the Empire alive. The sea routes to the colonies, especially those linking Britain to India (via the Suez Canal), were vital. However, by the early 1900s the German threat increased dramatically. Some in Britain thought it was in need of allies. For most of the 19th century, Britain had regarded France and Russia as its two most dangerous rivals, but with the growing threat of Germany, British policy began to change. In 1907, the Anglo-Russian Entente was agreed, which attempted to resolve a series of long-running disputes over Persia, Afghanistan and Tibet, as well as helping to address British fears about German expansion in the Near East. And so the

A multilingual internet?

A multilingual internet? English seems to be everywhere and that's why it might make us think that everyone in the world speaks English. If this were true, it would bring benefits for worldwide communication, but it also may become a threat to cultural diversity. It is said that about 75% of the pages on the Web are in English but only 12% of the world's population can communicate well in English. The position of English is beginning to change. Both Europe and Asia are growth areas and are conducting e-business. Companies are beginning to realise that they will have to translate their websites for their various customers. Businesses all over the world are now faced with a huge challenge creating a multilingual website

London SW2 Hayes Middlesex UB4 OQA 26.02.2010 Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to draw your attention to problems concerning threats that are connected with fishing. A study shoes that, rather than pollution, fishing appears to be the biggest threat to porpoises. Each year more than 10000 porpoises are killed in the seas around Britain. Fishingboats are using a technique witch consists in leaving the nets on the sea bed for several hours. When porpoises come to feed on the sea bed, they get caught in the nets and drown. There is a need for a research to make nets safer for porpoises. For example, one possibility would be to restrict the length of nets. This should be a duty of marine mammal organisations.

Tourism - good or bad

Tourists spend money on local goods and services ,so the area can get much money to develop the other essential public services, for example education and health. Also tourism services such as roads, bars, hotels, restaurants and other leisure facilities are built. Thanks to it, local people can get more jobs. Finally, tourism allows both the tourist and the local community a chance to experience other cultures. However, tourism can pose a threat to the natural environment and so may have bad effect on a country's wildlife. Tourists cause pollution and can damage the environment. What is more big companies are ruining the environment to build new facilities. For example, they cut down the forest, destroy the natural landscape in order to build hotels, restaurants for their business. Finally unfortunately some tourists do not always respect traditional cultures, they vandalize, make noise or throw rubbish.

The advantages and disadvantages of multiculturalism

Many different traditiones expand that way. On the other side, people are different and probably, when they move to another country, they expect or hope, that there is better life, but often they are wrong. The obstacle can very easily be even the language. If you don't know or understand the language of the country, it can be very tricky to live on. But in good will, learning the language isn't very hard, unless you're learning Chinese symbols. The threat of terrorism may get worse as the result of multiculturalism. Many people can also choose the wrong path, so they may become criminals and murderers. As well there may arise problems, disagreements and opposite opinions about racism. Multiculturalism is good and beneficial, when it when it doesn't destroy the country's own traditions, habits and of course people. In that way, multiculturalism is useful and developing society !

Peace and keeping

It sounds simple and easy, but for some reason, throughout the history, it has been very difficult to actually keep peace. Why then is it so important? Firstly, when there is peace, people are happy. Friendly relations with neighbours and different countries give people an oppurtunity to live normal lives. However, for example, when there are some tensions between two countries, the people of those countries would live in constant fear and threat. Secondly, violence is not acceptable in any form or situation. I think that when there are disagreements between some countries, they should try to solve them verbally. It is natural that we don`t all agree with everything, but a certain level of acceptance and understanding must be reachable with words. Luckily, there are more and more international peace organizations that help acheive and maintain peace. They are doing everything that they can to keep the world from

Wildlife under threat Giant panda The giant panda lives in a few mountain ranges in central China. As a result of farming, deforestation and other development, the panda has been driven out of the lowland areas where it once lived. The Chinese language has given the bear 20 different names, such as ,,large bear cat'' or ,,bamboo bear'. Unlike other bear species, pandas have round pupils. Pandas are known for their large black patches around their eyes, ears and across their round bodies. Male pandas can weigh up to 160 kg and females can weigh as little as 75 kg. The giant panda's thick, wooly coat keeps it warm in the cool forests. It has strong jaw muscles and teeth for eating tough bamboo. Giant pandas are generally solitary. Each adult has a defined territory and female pandas do not tolerate each other. Pandas are known to attack humans, but rather out of irritation than ag...

A formal letter to a newspaper

Also, it is important to point out the fact that, according to the Nielsen Co., teens over the country were in the year 2009 sending at least 80 texts a day on average, a figure double what it was the year before. In spite of teens saying that they cannot live without cell phones and iPods, electronic devices should not be permitted in the school buildings. Although students are taking the rules more as an inconvenience than a real threat, they have to see outside of their cell phones and accept not being reachable for the length of a day. Also, not having your electronic device with you does not make you a person who is in the dark and isolated. All in all, in my opinion we should stop texting so much and think more about seeing each other, for example, over the lunch for a quick coffee or tea. Taking your Blackberry with you is highly unrecommended! I look forward to reading more letters about this issue in your newspaper.

"Stalin's Grandson" Theatre director Alexandr Burdonsky only rarely gives interviews about his family history and about what happened to him after Stalin's death: "I was fifteen years old when the 20 th Congress took place and Khrushchev gave his secret speech about the cult of personality and its consequences and about all the people who had suffered under Stalin. The speech was no revelation for me. Many of my mother's friends had spent time in prison camps. She herself was constantly under threat of arrest. I knew about all this and I had the same attitude as any other normal person to it. But after Khrushchev's speech many people abandoned us. For them we were only Stalin's relatives. Nobody came to visit us. The headmistress of our school began to pick on my sister and me. We had to move to another school. Later, thank goodness, I met somebody who behaved differently towards me. Hundreds of tourists visits the most famous and beautiful places all over the world every single day but mass tourism has many disadvantages and fortunately some advantages too. The most important advantages of mass tourism are the financial profits. Thanks to tourism local people are employed in various kind of companies which are connected with tourists and their attractions. Local people also get more options how to be more successful in making money because in popular tourist areas they can start their own business, such as, shops, cafes, pubs, hotels, tent camps and so on. In addition, thanks to the money spent by tourists, local authorities have funds to maintain different buildings and places like, for example, libraries or parks and to restore monuments and other objects of histoic...

The Internet and Social Order

The Internet and Social Order KAROLIN PETERSON The Internet is, as of today, a fairly unrestricted medium where all sorts of information can be published and accessed. Do I think there should be any restrictions and censorship imposed relating to inappropriate or potentially dangerous content that could pose a threat to public safety? In my opinion there shouldn't be any kind of information that could danger people available online e.g you can easily find instructions how to build a bomb (smoke bomb, atomic bomb) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUakUPkbpU checking in online (e.g on facebook) shows where you are at the moment and that makes it easy for the burglars to know when you're away from home. In fact, it is the largest avian breeding ground in the United States. Wilderness destruction caused by commercial farming is a major threat for the region as the California Floristic Province generates half of all the agricultural products used by U.S. consumers. The hotspot is also heavily threatened by the expansion of urban areas, pollution, and road construction. Werewolves and vampires are ancient enemies but since Edward's family came into existence, an uneasy truce has taken place. To top it all off, a plague of murders taking place in Seattle points to an impending vampire threat. I think my biggest problem with this book is the way Bella constantly deludes herself. Alice has a vision at lunch while sitting with Bella and Edward. Bella is curious and wants to know what the vision was, but neither Edward or Alice will tell her. Edward then railroads her into going to visit her mom for the weekend in Arizona, and then lies to Bella about the vision, telling her it was something much different than what it really is.

European Union economic

kinds of grants. EU is also the largest aid donor in the world. For example EU has supported Georgia's ambitions to get closer to the EU between 1992-2009 with 865 million. Unfortunately, everything is not so black and white and there are also negative aspects. Biggest problem at the moment in the EU is countries dept - Greece in the first place. They took more loans that they could pay back and now, the country is in big crisis. If it increases, it will be a serious threat for all EU countries because we have common economy and Greece is using Euro (usually, the countries which are in crisis like that will devalue money, but because Greece is using Euro, it is impossible). That means - if Greece will bankrupt, it will bring crisis for all the Europe. So in EU, the countries have to pay for others mistakes... It has even been predicted that 4 EU countries would be bankrupt before 2013 year.

War on terror

Originally, it was waged against al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations with the purpose of eliminating them. The phrase War on Terror was first used by former US President George W. Bush and other high-ranking US officials to denote a global military, political, legal and ideological struggle against organizations designated as terrorist and regimes that were accused of having a connection to them or providing them with support or were perceived, or presented as posing a threat to the US and its allies in general. It was typically used with a particular focus on militant Islamists and al-Qaeda. The ideology of violent extremists has been discussed frequently since the tragic events of Septenber 11, 2001. It is clear thet an ideology of Islamist or Islamic political opposition and radicalism has been key to understanding various events and movements that go back even further, to the Islamic Revolution in Iran, for example.

been cleared to make room for vast monoculture of oil palm plantations. This clearing has destroyed critical habitat for many endangered species—including rhinos, elephants, tigers and orang-utans – the biggest victims • Burning forests to make room for the crop is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. Intensive cultivation methods result in soil pollution and erosion and water contamination Impact on inhabitants • Oil palm plantations are a threat to people living in rainforests, destroying their livelihoods and culture • Small farmers and indigenous people are being forced off their ancestral land • The palm oil industry is linked to major human rights violations, including child labour in remote areas of Indonesia and Malaysia. E-internet

As both asian and European markets use the internet more and more to conduct business, there will be an increasing need for language choice for the different markets.English is so often used on the internet that it might make you think everyone in the world speaks English, or at least give you the impression that it is the worlds most widekyspoken language. If this were true, it would, off course, bring benefits for worldwide communication and understandig, thought it could also possibly become a threat to cultural diversity.English certainly seems to be everywhere, from films to pop music and TV, and from 15 business to science and other fields. Information varies, but suggests that about 75% of the pages on the web are in english.Yet English is the mother tongue for only 5,4% of the worlds population, while a further 7% of the worlds population are proficient speakers of English. This means that only around 12% of the worlds population can communicate well in English. This figure

Animals we miss today

Causes: *The main cause of animal extinction, without doubt,is human demand, either for animal resources directly, or for the natural resources of the animals' habitats. *In addition to that, there are other indirect causes caused by human activities. *Habitat loss: Is considered to be the main cause for animal extinction. Humans are clearing our forests for wood and timber. The foodchain is disturbed and animals will die. *Wildlife trade: Poaching and wildlife trade are another common threat to animals. International wildlife trade has also been linked to drugs trade. The most common anilmal trade is pet trade, such as orangutangs. Animals are also killed for fur(tigers, leopards, cheetahs) *Climate change: It has been recently suggested that warmer global temperatures may be affecting animals. In fact, it has been suggested that the golden toad became extinct because of the warmer climate. The Animals *T-REX: Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest land carnivores of all time

My Magna Carta.

My Magna Carta. When I first started my own Magna Carta, I thought what's the most near heart and important to me. I chose two main topics, what I find important and relevant. I'm sure that I'm not the onl one who thinks like that. The first thing I would do, is forbid bullying. What is bullying? Bullying is the use of force, threat or duress to abuse, terrorize or aggressively dominate others. There are different types of victims. One of those is the one that ignores all the hate and insulting what comes at him/her. The other one takes it all by heart and seriously. Words can hurt, a lot. Most of the people don't realize what are they causing the victim, when bullying him/her. The worse cause that bullying can cause, is suicide. There is 7% of young people who attempt suicide every year

How to Stop Water Pollution

sources of water pollution ranging from sewage and fertilizers to soil erosion. The impact of water pollution on wildlife and their natural habitat can be immense. While it may seem like preventing water pollution can be an overwhelming subject to tackle, there are also a number of things that the average person can do to help stop water pollution. Tips on Preventing Water Pollution The best solution for water pollution is prevention. While pollution that has already occurred is a current threat to all life on Earth, attempts to clean it up may cause even more harm. There are several steps that can be taken to help prevent water pollution from getting worse. Keep Machinery in Good Working Order The oil used to lubricate engines in all types of machines needs to be changed regularly. When the oil is changed, it presents a number of environmental hazards if not disposed of properly. As oil moves throughout the crank case of an engine, it breaks down into many different types

New Guinea (inglise keeles)

Guinea and the neighbouring islands is striking. /2/ Wildlife use and trade in New Guinea concerns several species that are in high demand either for local subsistence. As forests are opened up by logging and forest conversion for plantations, there is a risk that the scale of wildlife exploitation will increase significantly, with dramatic consequences for target species. /4/ The problem with trading wildlife Wildlife trade represents the second-biggest direct threat to species survival after habitat destruction. The most obvious problem associated with wildlife trade is that it can cause overexploitation to the point where the survival of a species hangs in balance. Historically, such overexploitation has caused species to become either severely threatened or extinct, and as human populations have expanded,

Law-makers breaking the law: torture as a justified interrogation technique?

needs to pay a fine or undergo a punishment, one that he himself chooses. Political leaders have to, when necessary, be clever enough to know when they have to break the law. Because they believe in that law, they should also feel guilty for breaking it. This vision is based on the consequentialist reasoning that the honouring of individual rights in such emergency situations are subjected to the saving of people's lives. In case of serious threat where the fundamental values of a society are at stake and slavery or mass murder threaten it, all means are morally justified to save society of this. He does however not consider the effects it has on the government staff who are put into positions as such. In the theory, this concerns a few members of staff seen as collateral damage for the sake of acting upon assumption. This however serves no purpose and rather voids their efforts, which makes the destabilization of their health in

Summary Britta Kase

I have never thought that making phone calls and flying has become cheaper as a result of EU. EU has abolished national monopolies and has permitted competition. For me the most important thing is air, water and food quality. The EU has introduced compulsory quality standards for the air we breathe, there are quality standards for drinking water as well and EU has forced all food manufacturers to label their products. All member states must follow rules made by EU because the threat to our environment can only be tackled collectively. EU has made our lives easier. Travelling in Europe is very easy because there are no longer any border controls between most European countries. The Schengen Agreement has made border controls between its member countries unnecessary. That’s how freedom of movement has created. Anyone can decide where they prefer to live, study or work. And if we fall ill or have an accident in other European country, we can be sure that we can get

Human overpopulation

countries, such as in Sub Saharan Africa and Southern Asia, will experience a degradation of their quality and length of life as they face increasing difficulties to supply water, food, energy and housing to their growing populations, which will have major repercussions for public health, security measures and economic growth. Increased Global Warming and Climate Change • According to the Center for Biological Diversity, "The largest single threat to the ecology and biodiversity of the planet in the decades to come will be global climate disruption due to the buildup of human-generated greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. • People around the world are beginning to address the problem by reducing their carbon footprint through less consumption and better technology. • But unsustainable human population growth can overwhelm those efforts, leading us to conclude that we not only need smaller footprints, but fewer feet.

Henry Ford

Slaid 2. Peace ship versus Warship Ford insisted that he would give up his entire fortune, estimateted at over $30 million, if it would bring peace to the world. He even offered prizes and investments for peaceful endeavours of various kinds. By 1917, even though Ford remained commited to peace, the German announcement of unrestricted submarine warfare against all shipping suspected of carrying material to the allied side led Ford to do an about turn. Instead of executing his original threat to burn down Highland Park rather than use it for war, he asserted that the entire plant would be turned over for war production. With this move Ford made $29 million dollars profit, although he promised to not take a cent of 'blood money'. Slaid 3. Depressions and Downsizings The cash-flow crises caught Ford dangerously in 1921. He had to change a lot, not to say everythin. He slashed car prizes and cut administration staff but it wasn't enough. Ford had to
