Dahl published his first short story in the ''Saturday Evening Post'' He went on to write stories and articles for other magazines, including ''The New Yorker'' Dahl wrote his first story for children, ''The Gremlins'' in 1942, for Walt Disney. The story wasn't terribly successful, so Dahl went back to writing mysterious stories for adult readers. Personal Life

The same year that ''Someone Like You '' was published Dahl married film actress Patricia Neal, who won an Academy Award for her role in move ''Hud'' in 1961. The marriage lasted three decades and resulted in five children. Dahl told his children nightly bedtime stories that inspired his future career as a children's writer. These stories became the basis for some of his most popular kids ' books. After Neal suffered from multiple brain damages in the mid- 1960s , Dahl still stood by her. The couple divorced in 1983. Soon after Dahl married Felicity Ann Crosland, she was his partner until his death in 1990.
Death
After suffering an unspecified infection on November 12th in 1990, Roald Dahl was admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England. He died there on November 23, 1990, at the age of 74.
My Opinion
I haven't read any book or short story for adults that Roald Dahl has wrote, but I've read a lot of reviews that fans have made. And he seemed to be very good writer, because many young people really loved his creations and he also was most famous children’s story writer. I have only seen a film ''Charlie and the Chocolate Factor '' when I was a kid and this film was based on Dahl's book.

Fay Weldon an English author, essayist and playwright Early life § Fay Weldon was supposed to be born in New Zealand, but instead was born in England in 1931. At 5 weeks old she and her mother returned to New Zealand. § Her father was a doctor and her mother was a writer of commercial fiction under the pen name "Pearl Bellairs", among others. Her parents divorced when she was five. She lived with her mother, sister and grandmother until she started college and, as a result, grew up believing "the world was peopled by females". This problably influenced her works too. § She returned to England with her mother and studied economics and psychology at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. § Her actual christened name was "Franklin Birkinshaw". which she feels contributed to her being accepted at St Andrews and permitted to study economics: the school assumed she was a male student applicant.
