HOW ROSE GOT ITS
THORNS AND COLOUR
A story found in the Internet was used as an example
Once upon a time one girl went walking to the forest .
She took a basket with her , so that she could pick the flowers and put them into it .
She wanted to give them to her parents and make them happy .
The basket was so big that it could be filled with many flowers .
With so many flowers she could decorate all her home .
She was hopping and singing along the path
when she suddenly noticed beautiful anemones .
She picked them in her basket .
There were so many anemones and they were so pretty .
However , she went to look for other flowers .
On the verge of the forest she saw one blue spot .
Hepaticas were in blossom .
The girl picked many of them and now the basket was full .
She started to walk back home , now she knew the road .
She had walked only a few metres when she saw a rose bush .
She had never seen so powerful and so spectacular rose bush before . The roses were white and were shining like waterdrops .
She was very suprised and she wanted to take one bloom .
The girl reached her hand out to take herself one beautiful bloom. She thought that she had to pick them gently and so she did . She took one rose tenderly with her thin hands
and she felt that the rose bush welcomed her warmly .
She hopped happily from one foot and to an other , held her basket in one hand and her wonderful rose in the other .
With bright eyes she threw her rose to the air and closed her eyes.
When she opened her eyes she saw that she had lost her rose .
The girl started to look for it when she noticed that it had fallen straight onto the hedgehog’s back .
The hedgehog had been cuddled up and was sputtering now .
The girl tried to get the rose but the thorns were pricking .
Finally she got it . But oh dear !
The rose was covered with hedgehog’s quills now .
The girl tried to get away with them but accidentally she pricked in her finger and it started bleeding .
She looked her other fingers. They were also a little bloody .
She guessed it had happened when she tried to get the rose from hedgehog’s back . Accidentally she held the petals with her bloody hands. And now they were covered with blood .
The girl put the rose in her basket and ran home .
Mother treated her hands a little bit and then the girl started to decorate the home .
She put the hepatices and anemones to every room .
But into her room she only put one vase with a rose , coloured with blood and with thorns .
Since then we always have roses with thorns
and very often they are red .
