"Anna Karenina" kokkuvõte

"Anna Karenina" Lev Tolstoi Part 1 The novel opens with a scene introducing Prince Stepan Arkadyevitch Oblonsky, "Stiva", a Moscow aristocrat and civil servant who has been unfaithful to his wife Darya Alexandrovna, nicknamed "Dolly". Dolly has discovered his affair - with the family's governess - and the house and family are in turmoil. Stiva's affair and his reaction to his wife's distress shows an amorous personality that he cannot seem to suppress. In the midst of the turmoil, Stiva reminds the household that his married sister, Anna Arkadyevna Karenina is coming to visit from Saint Petersburg. Meanwhile, Stiva's childhood friend Konstantin Dmitrievich Levin ("Kostya") arrives in Moscow with the aim of proposing to Dolly's youngest sister Princess Ekaterina Alexandrovna Shcherbatskaya, "Kitty". Levin is a passionate, restless but shy aristocratic landowner who, unlike his Moscow friends, chooses to live in the country on hi...

Burj al Arab

They found themselves stranded on a beautiful lagoon, surrounded by mountains and all sorts of exotic plants and wild life. So the kids came up with new ideas to have fun. They asked the crew to redirect the streams and create waterfalls and water slides. Then they used palm leaves to build rafts, which they sat on and floated downstream. And when they tired of that, they simply threw themselves into the rushing water and had a great time. Pretty soon others were drawn to this magical place and among them was and old guy who came from an unheard of place. Even he thought that Wild Wadi was really cool and predicted that in the future many people would actually queue up to get a piece of the action. Burj Al Arab has attracted many celebrities over the years. Claudia Schiffer was quoted saying that her "favorite hotel is Burj Al Arab in Dubai." And in 2006, Naomi...

Müüt roosist

She was very suprised and she wanted to take one bloom . The girl reached her hand out to take herself one beautiful bloom. She thought that she had to pick them gently and so she did . She took one rose tenderly with her thin hands and she felt that the rose bush welcomed her warmly . She hopped happily from one foot and to an other , held her basket in one hand and her wonderful rose in the other . With bright eyes she threw her rose to the air and closed her eyes. When she opened her eyes she saw that she had lost her rose . The girl started to look for it when she noticed that it had fallen straight onto the hedgehog's back . The hedgehog had been cuddled up and was sputtering now . The girl tried to get the rose but the thorns were pricking . Finally she got it . But oh dear !...

Topic USA

Famous martin Luther King speech in Washington By the end of the 18th century, the whole of the Eastern coast of North America had been colonized, largely by British. As the British army needed to be supplied with raw materials, the taxes in America were raised. As there was serious opposition to this taxation the taxes were repealed. After that, in 1773 American patriots threw tons of British tea into sea from Boston harbour, in order to keep their job and money. Parliament reacted to that act of vandalism by closing Boston harbour. In 1774 representatives from every U.S state met in Philadelphia and imposed a trade embargo on Britain. As war became inevitable, the representatives had to meet for the second time in Philadelphia, in 1776,and made George Washington their commander-in- chief...

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras in the USA Mardi Gras, from the French words meaning "Fat Tuesday," combines religious tradition with a carnival or festival to welcome spring. It is also called Shove Tuesday or Pancake Day (in UK pancakes have an important role in celebrating Mardi Gras). Mardi Gras is the final day of Carnival- a festival season. Carnival begins 12 days after Christmas on January 6 and ends on Mardi Gras, which always falls exactly 47 days before Easter. The date of Mardi Gras changes every year. In the year 2008 it is on the 5th of February. "Fat Tuesday" is also the last day that Catholics can eat meat before Lent, the forty-day period of fasting before Easter The cities most famous for their Mardi Gras celebrations include New Orleans, Louisiana; Venice, Italy; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Many other places have important Mardi Gras celebrations as well. It is a federal holiday in Alabama, Florida an...

E.Hemingway

(See Important Quotations Explained) The novel begins with Jake Barnes, the novel's narrator and protagonist, describing Robert Cohn. Cohn was born to a wealthy Jewish family in New York. At Princeton, Cohn faced rampant anti-Semitism. To minimize his feelings of inferiority and to combat his shyness, he threw himself into boxing, becoming the university's middleweight champion. He married very soon after his graduation, on the rebound from his unhappy college experience. He and his wife had three children. Cohn lost most of his fifty-thousand-dollar inheritance, and, after five years, his wife left him, just when he had made up his mind to walk out on her. After the divorce, Cohn moved to California. There, he began spending time with a literary crowd, and he soon began backing a magazine...

E.M.Remarque "Läänerindel Muutuseta"

Paul is the protagonist and narrator of the novel. He is, at heart, a kind, compas-sionate, and sensitive young man, but the brutal expe-rience of warfare teaches him to detach himself from his feelings. His account of the war is a bitter invective against sentimental, romantic ideals of warfare. Read an in-depth analysis of Paul Bäumer. Stanislaus Katczinsky - A soldier belonging to Paul's company and Paul's best friend in the army. Kat, as he is known, is forty years old at the beginning of the novel and has a family at home. He is a resourceful, inventive man and always finds food, clothing, and blankets whenever he and his friends need them. Albert Kropp - One of Paul's classmates who serves with Paul in the Second Company. An intelligent, speculative young man, Kropp is one of Paul...
