Traditions
What is tradition ? From a scientific point of view a tradition is a ritual, belief or object passed down within a society, still maintained in the present , with origins in the past. I think it is easier to say that a tradition is a way of doing things that is handed down from generation to generation in a family, club , nation , any group.
Why are traditions important ? They bring you closer together. They are a trigger , a reason to get together, they bring back happy memories. Without traditions life would not be as fulfilled. Traditions are the glue that binds one generation to another . They give every member something to look forward to in our sometimes chaotic lives . They remind us to slow down and remember the things and people that are most important.
There are many different traditions and they all have different meaning . In my opinion the most important traditions are family ones , like celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and weddings. These traditions bring family closer together. For me birthdays are very important. On your birthday you can feel the love around you and also you can see that there are so many people who care about you.
In my opinion the importance of „The New Year " on January 1 is overemphasized. There seems to be an almost magical belief in a "New Year" bringing change . Other than starting a new wall calendar , beginning a new tax year, and having a reason to party it's really just any other day. Changes and resolutions can be started any time in December or January. Quite often people think that this is the right time to get drunk and do things which you don´t want to remember tomorrow and that`s sad. Because this should be the time to think about what has happened in the previous year and think about the future. This evening should be unforgettable. I think that this tradition- celebrating the New Year has lost its meaning and glamour .
Also I think that every country should have their own traditions. In Estonia I think the most important tradition is in February 24 when we celebrate the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. This day unites us as a nation.
Every person should know the meaning of a tradition. We should preserve them and create new ones.

Estonians (though it's a very small country) have the biggest song festival in the world ! The Singing Revolution tells the extraordinary story of the nonviolent path Estonia took to free itself from Soviet occupation. A documentary film about a nation peacefully standing up for its freedom through song, with the unstoppable dream of reclaiming Estonian independence. http://www.squidoo.com/estonias_singing_revolution The tradition of the song festival was born along with Estonian national awakening. The first national song festival was held in Tartu in the summer of 1869. One of the organizers of the first song festival was Johann Voldemar Jannsen. In the first three festivals only men's choirs and brass orchestras participated. 822 singers and 56 brass players participated in the first festival. Starting with the fourth festival, mixed choirs were also participating. Starting with the sixth festival in 1896, the

(22% in 1970), there is an increasing number of children growing up in sole-parent or reconstituted families. · sole-parent families are of particular concern due to the high incidence of poverty among such households. · the State pension age is rising (it will reach 67 by 2028, and 69 by the late 2040s), which means that fewer grandparents may have leisure time to help their children care for their families, so the tradition of using grandparents as a source of cheap childcare may be under threat. Identity as a personal project

” Lev S. Vygotsky I really think that the biggest addiction is communication with others. That’s because we need to know, what they are thinking, how do they react for our behaviour and speech. On the special place here is understanding of “person” and it´s context. I do agree to Giddens, that it varies culturally. For example, the families are different – big or small, how many generations live together and what are they celebrating. Every culture has its own folklore and traditions, language and cuisine. All of these factors influence persons´ future and identity. Reading assumptions described by Wetherell and Maybin, I found myself recognising and sharing them. First, very important trait for persons from counties “such as the UK and USA” is democracy of expression. I do think, that in Arabic culture there is no such freedom to express yourself publicly, that just don ´t suit their traditions. Second, I find very important a role of experience. So I´m

qualities of it. Usually this term is used when nature, vocation and all spheres what around the place are analyzed and object (art object, building or installation) fits perfect in this place. Object needs to be in harmony (balanced) with the environment. Site-specificity is place character or atmosphere what human can feel but can’t scientifically measured. As I understood site-specificity is all what surrounds it: nature as greenery, nature as weather (climate), traditions of humans, history of the place, etc. Genius Loci is the spirit of place. How I understood Genius Loci is the idea that every a human has his own place in this world and every human needs to identify himself. Before modern timeline human was in opposite with the place where he lived, he tried to identify himself by self-realization and world wandering. But in modern everything changed: Genius Loci idea is that human and his dwelling is inseparable. So as I

The basic ingredients, when fresh, are so full of flavour that British haven't had to invent sauces to disguise their natural taste. What can compare with fresh pees or new potatoes just boiled and served with butter? Why drown spring lamb in wine or cream and spices, when with just one or two herbs it is absolutely delicious? If you ask foreigners to name some typically English dishes, they will probably say "Fish and chips" then stop. It is disappointing, but true that, there is no tradition in England of eating in restaurants, because the food doesn't lend itself to such preparation. English cooking is found at home. So it is difficult to a good English restaurant with a reasonable prices. In most cities in Britain you'll find Indian, Chinese, French and Italian restaurants. In London you'll also find Indonesian, Mexican, Greek... Cynics will say that this is because English have no "cuisine" themselves, but this is not quite the true. Vocabulary: to criticize - tasteless

HOUSE AND HOME tööleht

Many Londoners, if they can afford it, move to expensive riverside apartment blocks, which continue to grow in popularity. Many of the former derelict warehouses in the Docklands have been converted into modern flats. This is the growing trend; Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Swansea – they all have dockland flats. In the countryside, visitors are always attracted by old farmhouses and thatched cottages. Thatching, using straw, reeds or grasses, is an old tradition in roof-making and dates back to the Bronze Age. In ancient times, a thatched roof was the best option because it was cheap and lightweight. It was at its most popular in the late 18th century. Other materials were later introduced, but many house owners today recognize the value of keeping their cottages thatched: they are traditional, picturesque and eco-friendly. Modern thatch is fire-proof and wire netting is often used to protect it from birds and rodents.
