Air pollution is problem all over the world. Through some pollution comes from these natural sources , most pollution is the result of human activity . The biggest causes are the operation of fossil fuel- burning power plants and automobiles that combust fuel. Combined, these two sources are responsible for about 90% of all air pollution in the United States.
All kind of pollutions can lead us to serious health problems. For example, air pollution is increasingly being cited as the main cause of lung conditions such as asthma - twice as many people suffer from asthma today compared to 20 years ago. Every year , 3.2m Europeans are diagnosed with cancer - the most common cause of death after heart disease . Most widespread are cancers of the lungs, breast and colon . Diseases such as bronchitis, lung cancer and heart diseases may all eventually appear in people exposed to air pollution. When the wind blows, then it carries the pollution with him. Futhermore, the rain reduces the pollution. Air pollutants such as ozone, nitrogen oxides, and sulphur dioxide also have harmful effects on natural ecosystem. A clean air supply is essential to our own health and that of the environment. But since the industrial revolution, the quality of the air we breathe has deteriorated considerably - mainly as a result of human activities. The pollutant emissions from road vehicles are regulated separately for light -duty vehicles (cars and light vans) and for heavy -duty vehicles (trucks and buses ). It is located in the atmosphere, air pollution is able to travel easily. As a result, air pollution is a global problem and has been the subject of global cooperation and conflict. Some areas now suffer more than others from air pollution. Cities with large numbers of automobiles or those that use great quantities of coal often suffer most severely from problems of air pollution. Every day, the average person inhales about 20,000 litres of air. Every time we breathe. We risk inhaling dangerous chemicals that have found their way into the air. Air pollution can be found both outdoors and indoors. Pollutants can be trapped inside buildings, causing indoor pollution that lasts for long time.
To keep our environment to be cleaner we have to be more responsible. People may try to restrict population growth , use less energy, improve energy efficiency, reduce waste and move to non-polluting renewable forms of energy production . Also, automobile -produced pollution can be decreased with highly beneficial results like a hybrid -cars. Many countries have green day weeks, when people don’t use their cars, but they travel by buses or bicycles . Estonia has this week also.
The 11tk edition of Green Week. The biggest annual conference on European environment policy, will be take place from 24 to 27 May 2011 in Brussels. This years theme is “Resources Efficiency- Using less, living better”. Resources efficiency means using the Earth´s limited resources in a sustainable manner . It means producing more value with fewer inputs, lessening our impact on the environment. And consuming in a more intelligent fashion .
