Resümee Juri Lotman ,,Sümboolsed ruumid" Geograafiline ruum vene keskaegsetes tekstides Meie arusaamine geograafilisest ruumist on üks viise inimmõistuse ruumkujutamisest. ...
.. Perseus using the beheaded head of Medusa to freeze and turn the living ones to stones once they look to it. The Mythology of Perseus and Medusa is connected to the descent of the Divine Female into Lower Conciousness. In the psysical part of the Great Year the Divine Female falls into Lower Consciousness and her shadow side emerges reflected in the unconcious Mortal Females who take control. This is also what the whore of Babylon is symbolizing. Perseus is symbolic for the returning Aether and Christ Consciousness that removes the influence and power of the lower conscious Mortal Females. The water that Perseus rides in on is also symbolic for the Aether as is the long hair of the Divine Female. The Living Ones refers to Mortal Man that has looked upon the corrupted Mortal Female as their Truth. If they have followed her corrupted path of debasement, lust and gluttony they will be removed of Spirit after Judgement

death. Blake taught Catherine to write, and she helped him to colour his printed poems. William and Catherine's first daughter and last child might be Thel described in The Book of Thel who was conceived as dead. Politics Blake was not active in any well-established political party Blake was both concerned about senseless wars of kingdoms, and the blighting effects of the industrial revolution. Much of his poetry recounts in symbolic allegory the effects of the French and American revolutions. Death On the day of his death, Blake worked on his Dante series. Eventually, it is reported, he ceased working and turned to his wife, who was in tears by his bedside. Beholding her, Blake is said to have cried, "Stay Kate! Keep just as you are I will draw your portrait for you have ever been an angel to me." Having completed this portrait (now lost), Blake laid down his tools and began to sing hymns and verses
Also it helps children to connect before heard bible stories with visual art. They see the symbols and also learns to analyse them. For understanding that a picture has a structure and characteristics and it needs to be interpretered correctly children should see in in three ways. Firstly they see it by the global view where the approach is emotional and they are attrachted by some details and missing some. Secondly there is a analytic view, where they analyse the obvious and more symbolic meanings and find the relationships between them. Thirdly they see it in a syntetic way, where the global message is explained and enriched by the symbolic meanings. In other words at first they read it, then they analize it and in the end they verbalise the message(Mazzarello:108-109). The power of sacred art can be used for teaching purposes. In fact, religious art "makes possible a larger measure of desirable religious growth with the least waste of time and energy
Flags, generally overlooked in the nation formation process, are also essential symbols to rally around. National anthems, much like flags, symbolise the nation and its collective self-celebration and unisonance. National days are occasions when national symbols are activated. They are the 5 repeated annual occasions when the nation remembers its founding myth or celebrates its symbolic birthday. 1.3 The Use of Flags throughout History There are `old', `modern' and `new' national symbols (flags) because nations vary in `age', in terms of continuity and independence. The Romans, as far as we know, used two kinds of fabric flags, one with the image of the goddess of victory painted on it, and the other the flammula, consisting of red streamers attached to the spear, marking the presence of a general.
At the opening ceremony, people from embassy come to congratulate and thank the students for their efforts of making such a big event happen. There´s also Art Week´s café where traditional food is served. Traditionally Art Week ends with costume party where organizing class performs with their own play. Also they pass on the torch to next organizing class by giving them the Art Weeks flag. This year´s theme country was Japan. The school was decorated with symbolic things from Japan. There was a handmade Torii in the lobby. Art Weeks café was in atrium where 11c did very good job. My favourite food was sushi which I believe was made by themselves. There were many activities in which students could participate. I took part in language lesson, origami lesson, animation workshop where I made my own little cartoon. I also went to a lecture in TTU about robots from Japan. At the end of the lecture we built our own robots and made them compete with each other
But 80,000 years ago something changed. "The Neanderthals had an impressive but basically routine material record for a hominid. Once H. sapiens started behaving in a strange, [more sophisticated] way, all hell broke loose and change became the norm," Tattersall says. We started to produce superior cultural and technological artefacts. Our stone tools became more intricate. One study proposes that our technological innovation was key for our migration out of Africa. We started to assign symbolic values to objects such as geometrical designs on plaques and cave art. There is little evidence that any other hominins made any kind of art By contrast, there is little evidence that any other hominins made any kind of art. One example, which was possibly made by Neanderthals, was hailed as proof they had similar levels of abstract thought. However, it is a simple etching and some question whether Neanderthals made it at all. The symbols made by H. sapiens are clearly more advanced
ARTICLE AND BOOK REVIEW what books have you read lately? INTRODUCTION Books are treasure that takes out all reality and replaces it with fantacy, psyhology and humor in some cases. Yet no empire (except for the Russian) disappeared more swiftly. Within a generation, this mighty structure sank almost without trace leaving behind a scatter of sea-girt dependencies and a ghost of empire -- the Commonwealth. Equally, it can be claimed that Britain bequeathed its former colonies economic foundations, a cultural legacy, a sporting spirit, a legal code and a language more ubiquitous than Latin ever was. Full of vivid particulars, brief lives, telling anecdotes, comic episodes, symbolic moments and illustrative vignettes, The Decline and Fall of the British Empire evokes remote places as well as distant times. Such actions were not be tolerated by the Irish and the Irish Americans who, together with North Americans of every race and creed rose against the British Empire in North America and In Ireland. The Irish Republican Army took on the British Empire at its height (1919-21) and British rule collapsed in Ireland as a result of the Irish War of Independence. This sparked
Koumbaros is the most important person man at a Greek wedding who is not the groom or the priest. Usually that man is the groom's godfather, but it can also be some other man, who is named as a mark of great honor. He has an extended duties during the ceremony. He holds twin crowns over the heads of the bride and groom, which shows that the couple are the King and Queen of their union as man and wife. And he also joins them in a symbolic gesture by circling the alter three times. It is held as the first walk made by the married couple. The number three is as a sign of the Holy Trinity. Then the priest takes the rings in his hand and makes the sign of the cross over the heads of the couple. Koumbaros then takes the rings and exchanges them between the bride and groom three times. The exchange reminds the couple that in married life the weaknesses of one should be compensated by the strengths of the
Francis Bacon, but he is best known for his Shakespearian Grammar (1870) and religious allegory the Flatland. William Blake · William Blake (17571827) was an English poet, philosopher and artist. He was one of the most extraordinary personalities to emerge during the period of Romanticism. He believed that spiritual reality lies hidden behind the visible world of the senses and he attempted to create a symbolic language to represent his spiritual visions. He began printing his own illustrated poems in colour in 1787. The first example was Songs of innocence(1789). Towards the end of his life, he joined a circle of younger artists who appreciated his remarkable powers. It was not until the late 19th century that Blake's work achieved general attention. He was extremely prolific and his prints, illustrations, and paintings can be found in several important public collections in
Burj al-Arab Hotel - The tourist magnet of Dubai The Burj Al Arab : literally, Tower of the Arabs is a luxury hotel located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Construction Construction of Burj Al Arab began in 1994. In 1999 the tower that resembles the sail of a dhow, became the world's tallest hotel with the height of 321 m. The architect Tom Wright has said that the client wanted a building that would become an iconic or symbolic statement for Dubai. This is very similar to Sydney with its Opera House, or Paris with the Eiffel Tower. It had to be a building that would become synonymous with the name of the country. The world's tallest hotel is also popularly described as the world's only 7-Star hotel - although its formal rating is 5 Star Deluxe, the highest the international rating system offers. They say, this building was the dream of a sultan, (Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan)
techniques used by the Stonehenge builders. Over the years, various authors have suggested that supernatural or anachronistic methods were used, usually asserting that the stones were impossible to move otherwise. However, conventional techniques using Neolithic technology have been demonstrably effective at moving and placing stones this size.[10] Proposed functions for the site include usage as an astronomical observatory, or as a religious site. Other theories have advanced supernatural or symbolic explanations for the construction. More recently two major new theories have been proposed. Mike Parker Pearson, head of the Stonehenge Riverside Project, has suggested that Stonehenge was part of a ritual landscape and was joined to Durrington Walls by their corresponding avenues and the River Avon. The area around Durrington Walls henge was a land of the living, whilst Stonehenge was a domain of the dead. A journey along the

A bust of the Second World War First Sea Lord Admiral Cunningham by Franta Belsky was unveiled in Trafalgar Square on 2 April 1967 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.[5] The square has become a social and political location for visitors and Londoners alike, developing over its history from "an esplanade peopled with figures of national heroes, into the country's foremost place politique", as historian Rodney Mace has written. Its symbolic importance was demonstrated in 1940 when the Nazi SS developed secret plans to transfer Nelson's Column to Berlin following an expected German invasion, as related by Norman Longmate in If Britain Had Fallen (1972). "The Lady of Pity"( 1875)-It is a typically romantic view of Jane Morris as Rossetti saw her, with her grey eyes, full lips and abundant hair all emphasized. Rossetti had a close but not physical relationship with the wife of his friend William Morris. In the scroll under the portrait Rossetti, who was of Italian origin, has written "color d´amore e di pieta sembiante" ( the colour of love and appearance of pity). Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones ( 1833- 98) He developed the mystical and symbolic tendencies of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. He turned to art while an undergraduate at Oxford under the spell of Rossetti. He abandoned his studies and in 1856 joined Rossetti, Morris and others in decorating the Oxford Union Building. His gift for 2-dimensional design led him to produce models for stained glass, tapestries and other objects for the rest of his life.

Every month, the Moon disappears for three days while Anningan eats. He then returns to chase his sister once again. This eternal chase makes the Sun alternate in the sky with the Moon. Anningan is the name of the Moon god of some of the Inuit people that live in Greenland. The word "Inuit" means "people." Anningan continually chases his sister, Malina, the Sun goddess, across the sky. During this chase, he forgets to eat, and he gets much thinner. This is symbolic of the phases of the moon, particularly the crescent. To satisfy his hunger, he disappears for three days each month (new moon) and then returns full (gibbous) to chase his sister all over again. Malina wants to stay far away from her bad brother. That is why they rise and set at different times. Pilt The mask above is a shaman mask. Shamans would wear masks such as this one during healing ceremonies. Sedna

to be the queen of spades, whose image on the card appears to wink at him uncannily resembling ..."the old woman!". A short "Conclusion" reports that Hermann has gone out of his mind, Lizaveta Ivanovna has married the prosperous son of the former steward of the Countess and is bringing up a poor female relation, and Tomsky is marrying a society princess. Questions for the seminar on Monday: 1. Explain the symbolic meaning of the title. How does it relate to the representation of the Queen of Spades as the Venus of Moscow? 2. Explain the role of chance in Pushkin's story and the role of card game in the psychological profile of his protagonist. 3. Is it important to see Hermann presented as a German person? 4. How does Pushkin view the Russian upper class society? Give examples of some ironic and/or satirical description of Russian society and its fascination with European values. 5
and independence. Because she does not conform to traditional feminine behavior, she is a danger to him. As with Jake and his male friends, World War I seems to have played an essential part in the formation of Brett's character. During the war, Brett's true love died of dysentery. Her subsequent aimlessness, especially with regard to men, can be interpreted as a futile, subconscious search for this original love. Brett's personal search is perhaps symbolic of the entire Lost Generation's search for the shattered prewar values of love and romance. Robert Cohn Cohn has spent his entire life feeling like an outsider because he is Jewish. While at Princeton, he took up boxing to combat his feelings of shyness and inferiority. Although his confidence has grown with his literary success, his anxiety about being different or considered not good enough persists. These feelings of

Grieve! Our tireless friend is dead. He died giving you his last crust of bread; he died without even the means to pay for his funeral. Posterity, you will avenge him; you will tell our descendants how he could have possessed riches if he had not preferred virtue to fortune. . . . To you, my colleagues, I offer my homage with my brush; as you observe the livid and bloody features of Marat, you will remember his virtue, which you must never cease to emulate." The painting itself is very symbolic. In Marat's left hand there is a letter from Corday and beside it a letter with some money to a soldier's widower. This portrays him as a good hearted and humble man, who supports the poor and weak. Furthermore, Marat is writing on an old box that was used as a table. On the panting the box symbolizes the conditions of the revolutionaries supporting the Republic, because usually only the rich and the supporters of the king could own luxurious furniture
Instead, Gould's refurbished silver mine and the wealth it has generated inspires a new round of revolutions and self-proclaimed warlords, plunging Costaguana into chaos. Among others, the revolutionary Montero invades Sulaco; Gould, adamant that his silver should not become spoil for his enemies, orders Nostromo, the trusted "capataz de los cargadores" (head longshoreman) of Sulaco, to hide it on an offshore island. ,,Heart of darkness"-1902. Conrad's landmark. Novel is highly symbolic. The main events render by Marlow, happened in Congo, the river has the same name, is described as serpentine river (piblical illusion), bears some evil in himself, in the same way like paradise. Congo-one of the darkest places on earth. (Africa-dark continent) Story: white European Charles Marlowe is in charge of a ferry boat on Congo, meets Kurtz, who is trading ivory, very expensive, made illegal in some countries for now, keeps the local in fear. three blue lions with a golden oak branch on each side. The small coat of arms is identical but without oak branches. Use of the historic coat of arms as the official insignia of the Republic of Estonia was readopted in August 1990. In addition to the three main state emblems, Estonia has its national flower (the cornflower), its national bird (the barn swallow) and its national stone (limestone). There are a number of other things in Estonia which have symbolic value without any official status: the oak tree, the weather-vane and the Tower of Pikk Hermann in Tallinn, Hermann Castle in Narva, Big Egg Hill in South Estonia, and others. 6. Climate The climate in Estonia is determined by the country's location. Climatic differences are due, above all, to the vicinity of the Baltic Sea and the North Atlantic. Thus, summer temperatures are somewhat lower than the average for that latitude, but winter temperatures are considerably warmer
People are alienated anyway. But when one is different, then alienation is absolute. This idea is existentsialist. 8. Violence. Comes in two forms, its human violence, such as murder, rape, mutulation, slave abuse, arson. Natural violence, flood, drought-period of dry weather, storms and so on. 9. Characterized by the love of style of thetoric. Like true modernists they liked to experiment with syntex and so on .10. literary method is the combination is modernism and symbolic naturalism. They experiment with language but also every concrete physical detail becomes symbolic. And has a philosophical explanation. 13.03.2013 Thomas Wolfe, Penn Warren, K. A. symbols and allegories to explore one of his constant themes: the relationship between the individual and society. Herman Melville dedicated his greatest work, Moby Dick, to Hawthorne, in recognition of his friendship and the contribution he made in revising the first draft of the novel. When it first appeared, Moby Dick was described as a `wild and mad novel', but it was quickly recognised as an important development in the novel genre. The metaphysical and symbolic style, the juxtaposition of tones and the innovative narrative technique make it a rich and a complex work which encompasses many themes, including the battle between man and nature, the conflict between good and evil and man's quest to live in a largely hostile world. The emergence of the Transcendentalist movement in New England in the middle years of the century marked a significant break from the Puritan tradition.
Hester loves Dimmesdale, but she does not love him enough to expose his sin publicly, and she conceals her knowledge of Chillingworth. Either you love something wholeheartedly, or you don't. Hawthorne might have portrayed Hester in a more favorable light then the other characters, but still she should have to wear a scarlet H in addition to her A. The second character, Arthur Dimmesdale is the epitome of hypocrisy. Hawthorne intended his name to have symbolic meaning. Dimmesdale meaning dim or not very bright. Arthur might be bright in the areas of theology, but when it comes to hypocrisy, he is a fool. Dimmesdale says very near the beginning of the book "What can thy silence do for him, except to tempt himyea, compel him, as it wereto add hypocrisy to sin?"(Dimmesdale 47) He knows what will happen to him if he endures his sin in private, but he is too weak at this point in the book to admit it

A tag represents a version of a particular branch at a moment in time. Tags are symbolic names for a given revision. They always point to the same object (usually: to the same revision); they do not change. A branch represents a separate thread of development that may run concurrently with other development efforts on the same code base. Changes to a branch may eventually be merged back into another branch to unify them. Branches are symbolic names for line of development. New commits are created on top of branch
