partitioned on 3 May 1921. It is bordered by Northern Ireland--part of the United Kingdom--to the north, by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Irish Sea to the east and the Celtic Sea and St George's Channel to the South and South-East. The legal name of the state is simply "Ireland", but its legal description the Republic of Ireland is sometimes used to differentiate the state from the island. On 29 December 1937 Ireland became the successor-state to the Irish Free State, itself established on 6 December 1922. Ireland was one of the poorest countries in Western Europe and had high emigration. The protectionist economy was opened in the late 1950s and Ireland joined the European Communities (now the European Union) in 1973. An economic crisis led Ireland to start large-scale economic reforms in the late 1980s. Ireland reduced taxation and regulation dramatically compared to other EU countries.

Roosevelt was the force behind the completion of the Panama Canal; he sent out the Great White Fleet to display American power, and he negotiated an end to the Russo-Japanese War, for which he won the Nobel Peace Prize. Roosevelt declined to run for re-election in 1908. After leaving office, he embarked on a safari to Africa and a trip to Europe. On his return to the US, a rift developed between Roosevelt and his anointed successor as President, William Howard Taft. Roosevelt attempted in 1912 to wrest the Republican nomination from Taft, and when he failed, he launched the Bull Moose Party. In the election, Roosevelt became the only third party candidate to come in second place, beating Taft but losing to Woodrow Wilson. After the election, Roosevelt embarked on a major expedition to South America; the river on which he traveled now bears his name. He contracted

The King’s Speech

It is about King Georg VI of Britain, his sudden rise to the throne in 1936 and his speech therapist Lionel Logue who helped him to get rid of his stammer. King Georg VI is the son of King George V and father of the currently ruling Queen Elizabeth II. The film is directed by Tom Hooper, starring Colin Firth (King Georg VI), Helena Bonham Carter (his wife Elizabeth) and Geoffrey Rush (Lionel Logue). After the death of King Georg V his older son became his successor - King Edward VIII. However, he stayed as a king only few months as the scandals related with the married woman he loved forced him to resign. He passed the power to his younger brother Prince Albert. For Prince Albert this was the worst nightmare because he was unconfident and unstable because of stammering. He knew very well that almost the only role the king has is to speak to his people something he was unable to do. After inviting several doctors to the Palace his wife introduced

Islam is described in the Qur'an as "the primordial nature upon which God created mankind", and the Qur'an states that the proper name Muslim was given by Abraham. As a historical phenomenon, Islam originated in Arabia in the early 7th century. Islamic texts depict Judaism and Christianity as prophetic successor traditions to the teachings of Abraham. The Qur'an calls Jews and Christians "People of the Book" (ahl alkitb), and distinguishes them from polytheists. invaded London. It started to expand again under the Saxon kings. London was described as a commercial centre into which goods from all parts of the world flew by land and sea. King Alfred the Great repopulated and fortified the city. Edward the Confessor started to build a new royal palace at Westminster and raised London to the level of capital. William the Conqueror started the construction of the Tower of London and his successor William II enlarged it and constructed Westminster Hall. The two centres which were to characterise the English capital for many years emerged: The City of L and Westminster. In 1193 Londoners elected Henry Fitzalwin their first Mayor and in 1209 a stone bridge was built to replace the earlier wooden one, which was the first real London Bridge. King Edward of England died on January 5, 1066, after a reign of 23 years. Leaving no heirs, Edward's passing away ignited a three-way rivalry for the crown that culminated in the Battle of Hastings and the destruction of the Anglo-Saxon rule of England. The leading pretender was Harold Godwinson, Harold and Edward became brothers-in-law when the king married Harold's sister. Harold's powerful position, his relationship to Edward and his esteem among his peers made him a logical successor to the throne. William, Duke of Normandy, also laid claim to the English throne. William justified his claim through his blood relationship with Edward as they were distant cousins and by stating that some years earlier, Edward had designated him as his successor. The third rival for the throne was Harald Hardrada, King of Norway. Hardrada ruled Norway jointly with his nephew Mangus until 1047 when Mangus conveniently died.

Choosing your child's personal guardian You may well know whom you want to name as your child's personal guardian. For many parents, there's one obvious choice an adult who is willing to take on the responsibility and would love and care for the child. And always you should name a successor personal guardian as well, in case your first choice is unable to serve or to continue to serve. For example: Janine has custody of her two daughters, aged 14 and 15, from her first marriage, and her son, age 6,from her second. Her 1st husband has never taken any interest in, and little reponsibility for the girls. Her second ex, Todd, has been an adequate, though from Janine's view, well below superb, father to their son, and also tried to be decent to her daughters

returned to England with an army. The army was commanded by his two sons Harold and Tostig. Godwin's lands were returned to him and many of Edward's Norman favourites were exiled. In 1053 Godwin died. His title was taken by Harold who became known as Harold of Wessex. He was the most powerful nobleman in England. It was Harold who subjugated Wales in 1063 and negotiated with the rebellious Northumbrians in 1065. Thereof, shortly before his death, Edward named Harold as his successor even though he may already have promised the crown to a distant cousin, William Duke of Normandy. Edward's greatest achievement was the construction of a new cathedral, where virtually all English monarchs from William the Conqueror onward would be crowned. It was determined that the minster should not be built in London, and so a place was found to the west of the city (hence "Westminster"). The new church was consecrated at Christmas, 1065, but Edward could not attend due to illness.

The Norman Conquest

On October 14, in the fateful Battle of Hastings, William defeated and killed Harold and seized the English throne. Two months after the Battle of Hastings, William I was crowned king in Westminster Abbey. The service was held on Christmas Day 1066, with all the traditional ceremonies associated with the coronation of English kings since the time of Edgar. William had gained his throne by accepting the English form of coronation, William emphasised his claim to be legitimate successor to Edward the Confessor. William I was a strong king and a man of immense determination. He was stern to people who opposed his will, but kindly disposed to those who did not. William saw England as an extension of his French domains. He dispossessed nearly all the Anglo-Saxon nobles of their lands, and put Normans in their places. These men discouraged rebellion by building strong castles throughout the country, especially in Wales.

In 1980 Princess Beatrix succeeded to the throne on the abdication of her mother, Queen Juliana. Van Agt's cabinet lost its parliamentary majority in May 1981, but he formed a new coalition that lasted from September 1981 to May 1982. Parliamentary elections were held in September 1982, after which van Agt unexpectedly resigned his party leadership. His successor as head of the Christian Democratic Party was Ruud Lubbers, who formed a new coalition in November 1982 and remained in power until 1994. ASPECTS OF BRITISH HISTORY

The seven kingdoms were first united into one under Egbert of Wessex, who became the first king of England (829–839). And the country got its new name, England, ‘the land of Angles’. One of the institutions created by the Anglo-Saxons in the ninth century was the King’s Council, called the Witan, which included nobles and senior churchmen. The Witan advised the king on important matters and was the highest law court. When a king died, the Witan chose a successor. The Anglo-Saxons had little use for towns, which fell into disrepair. But they had a great effect on the countryside, where they founded the thousands of self- sufficient villages which formed the basis of English society during the next thousand or so years. They cut down many forest areas in the valleys to make new fields. 32 The Anglo-Saxons divided the land into new administrative areas  shires. Over

All these facts made Portugal the world's major economic, military, and political power from the 15th century to the beginning of the 16th century. IBERIAN UNION AND RESTORATION Portugal's sovereignty was interrupted between 1580 and 1640. This occurred because the last two kings of the House of Aviz King Sebastian, who died in the battle of Alcácer Quibir in Morocco, and his great-uncle and successor, King Henry of Portugal both died without heirs, resulting in the Portuguese succession crisis of 1580. Subsequently, Philip II of Spain claimed the throne and so became Philip I of Portugal. Although Portugal did not lose its formal independence, it was governed by the same monarch who governed the Spains, briefly forming a union of kingdoms, as a personal union. At this time Spain was a geographic territory. The joining of the two crowns deprived

However, a shift has occurred in the attitudes of the democratic wing of the Russian elite towards the Baltic states. The former allies in the anti-communist struggle are now seen as “ungrateful nationalists” discriminating against Russians with their language and citizenship policies. Neither derzhavniks nor democrats recognise the occupation, instead using the euphemism “incorporation”. Even though the Russian Federation has officially declared itself the legal successor of the Soviet Union, no association between these two entities is recognised as far as the Baltic issue is concerned. Democrats believe that historical injustice has been fully atoned for by the fact that the Baltic peoples were set free in 1991 without any preconditions. 155

Investors Handbook. A Legal Guide to Business in Georgia

Only partners are authorized to make the decision to reorganize a company. The decision to reor- ganize should be reflected in the statute of the company. Specifically, following reorganization, the redistribution of partners' shares and determination of their obligations should be revised in the statute with regard to the change in form of the company. The company established through reorganization is a successor of the reorganized company. Georgian legislation enables the division of a company, as well. In the case of division, the com- pany may be split to create two or more new and independent entities. In this case, the partners are entitled to define their shares in the companies established as a result of the division on the basis of a new agreement. Companies established through division are jointly liable for the commitments of the transferring company.

Trade expansion was enabled by the introduction of canals, improved roads and railways. The impact of this change on society was enormous. The First Industrial Revolution merged into the Second Industrial Revolution, when technological and economic progress gained momentum with the development of steam- powered ships, railways and electricity. The Industrial Revolution began an era of per-capita economic growth in capitalist economies. *The emergence of the Conservative Party is the successor of the Tory Party, it was created by Sir Robert Peel after the Reform Bill. It continued the Tory policy of the protection of the agricultural interests and tghe defence of the Church of England against Dissent. The repeal of the Corn Laws under Peel caused a split in the party and resulted in its loss of power for some time. It was lead by Sir Winston Churchill during II World War. Later it returned to power under Margaret Thatcher.

" His men idolized him. "If, at the start of the Pacific War," wrote Commander Fuchida, leader of the Pearl Harbor attack, "a poll had been taken among Japanese naval officers to determine their choice of the man to lead them as Commander in Chief Combined Fleet, there is little doubt that Admiral Yamamoto would have been selected by an overwhelming majority." Layton summed up with the observation that Yamamoto was preeminent in all categories, that any successor would be personally and professionally inferior, and, finally, that the death of the Commander in Chief would demoralize the Japanese, who venerate their captains much more than Occidentals do. Nimitz concurred. He realized that the shock of such a leader's death, combined with the elimination of the finest strategist of the enemy war machine, would equal a major American battle victory. He was furthermore probably influenced by the general American hatred of Yamamoto.

The chief of every day was spent by him at Lucas Lodge, and he sometimes returned to Longbourn only in time to make an apology for his absence before the family went to bed. Mrs. Bennet was really in a most pitiable state. The very mention of anything concerning the match threw her into an agony of ill-humour, and wherever she went she was sure of hearing it talked of. The sight of Miss Lucas was odious to her. As her successor in that house, she regarded her with jealous abhorrence. Whenever Charlotte came to see them, she concluded her to be anticipating the hour of possession; and whenever she spoke in a low voice to Mr. Collins, was convinced that they were talking of the Longbourn estate, and resolving to turn herself and her daughters out of the house, as soon as Mr. Bennet were dead.
