History of Gillette Razors

History of Gillette Razors On November 15, 1904, patent was granted to King C. Gillette for a safety 'razor'. In 1895, after several years of considering and rejecting possible inventions, Gillette suddenly had a brilliant idea while shaving one morning. It was an entirely new razor and blade that flashed in his mind --a razor with a safe, inexpensive, and disposable blade. It took six years for Gillette's idea to evolve. During that time, technical experts told Gillette that it would be impossible to produce steel that was hard, thin, and inexpensive enough for commercial development of the disposable razor blade. Then in 1901, MIT graduate William Nickerson agreed to try. By 1903, he had succeeded.

Richard was tall, good-looking and intelligent. As earlier historians used to believe, he may have suffered from a personality disorders. Richard's mental state has been a major issue since the 19th century. One of the first modern historians to deal with Richard II as a king and as a person was Bishop Stubbs. Sydney Opera House is the most famous Australian architectural icon. Sydney Opera House is widely regarded as one of the greatest architectural works of the 20th century. The Sydney Opera House became a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 28 June 2007. Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon. Planning began in the late 1940s, when Eugene Goossens lobbied for a suitable venue for large theatrical productions. The normal venue for such productions was not considered large enough. By 1954, Goossens succeeded in gaining the support of Joseph Cahill, who called for designs for a dedicated opera house. Joseph Cahill launched a design competition on 13 September 1955 and recieved 233 entries. The criteria specified a large hall seating 3,000 and a small hall for 1,200 people, each to be designed for different uses. The winner, announced in 1957, was Jørn Utzon, a Danish architect. Construction started 2 March 1959 and completed 1973. The Opera House was formally opened by

House of Winsdor

People all over the world are obsessed with the British royal family. Most fans know all the royal names and faces, the line of succession to the throne, and even the family's rarely- used last name. But let's start from the beginning. The House of Windsor is the reigning royal house of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. The dynasty is of German paternal descent and was originally a branch of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, itself derived from the House of Wettin, which succeeded the House of Hanover to the British monarchy following the death of Queen Victoria, wife of Albert, Prince Consort. The name was changed from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to the English Windsor (from "Windsor Castle"[1]) in 1917 because of anti-German sentiment in the British Empire during World War I.[2] There have been four British monarchs of the house of Windsor to date: three kings and the present queen, Elizabeth II. During the reign of the Windsors, major changes took place in British society

of his death, aged 37, on 21 July 1796, he had become Scotland's bestloved poet and, perhaps more importantly, the symbol of the regeneration of a nation. At Mount Oliphant, when he was 15, Robert wrote his first song, Handsome Nell, for his partner in the fields at harvest time, Nellie Kirkpatrick. Robert had to work as a flax dresser in Irvine to earn money for family but his real passion was poetry. At the age of 27 he had 3 children, two of them were twins. In July of 1786, Burns had succeeded in publishing the first book of his poems, the "Kilmarnock Edition", which became enormously popular. He decided to move to Edinburgh where new editions of his poetry were published. He made a number of tours of Scotland and began collecting traditional Scots songs and tunes for "The Scots Musical Museum". The gathered many old scotish tunes and songs that could have been lost otherwise. Even Haydn and Beethoven got inspiration from the songs he had put down.

Millennials and Technology

Generation Y has a whole new list of technology which nowadays includes a phone, a computer, gaming consoles, a televison, and basically anything you can control without ever having to get up or even leave our rooms. When's the last time someone asked you about something neither of you knew about and you didn't take your phone out to 'google' it? Now think about how many times you've tried to figure out the answer yourself. Sure, both ways may have plenty of attempts but which has succeeded the most the artificial or the real brain? The answer is quite simple, isn't it! Technology has so much to do with today's knowledge. You probably wouldn't know half the things you know now if it weren't for the Internet. Looking at it like that, millennials don't really differ from robots all that much. Some are even more advanced that any of us! Both of us use technology every single day to recieve and process information. Both of us move fast and socialize through the Internet

other. In my opinion the book was very enchanting and beautiful. The way the author describes Alaska, is very magical, because she has lived there her whole life. When I was reading the book I felt like I had been to Alaska, the writer really knows how to use the right adjectives to make the reader feel the cold and dark Alaskan winter. In my view, the book achieved its goal perfectly. The author knew exactly what kind of a message she wanted to bring to the reader and I believe that she succeeded. One specific point, which left me a bit confused was Fauna, the snow girl. I still can not understand how and why she woke up and became a real person. I guess this is the fact, which makes this book special, but I would have liked the book more if the author would have added a story about how she woke up. In general it was book that was a perfect combination of happiness and sadness. Happiness and sadness were in balance, however the book ended sadly.

The 4 oldest Churches in Tallinn

Supervisor: Ingrid Teigar Tallinn 2009 The Dome Church The Danes began fortification of Toompea after the conquest of Tallinn in 1219 and probably also built the first church there. It was presumably a wooden building located at the site of the present cathedral. However, a serious conflict with the Order of the Brothers of the Sword broke out soon as the latter wanted to gain control of the entire Estonia. The order succeeded in subordinating Tallinn and the whole of North Estonia to its rule in 1227. The monks of the Dominican Order began the construction of a stone church in Toompea in 1229. The first written data on the cathedral date back to 1233, the date of a battle between the order and the pro-papal vassals, who attempted for the last time to turn Tallinn into the centre of the ecclesiastical state, and were defeated. (3) 2.8 Internal Developments William the Silent had been succeeded in the position known as stadtholder and as military commander by his son Maurice, who in turn was followed by his brother Frederick Henry. These men governed in conjunction with the States-General, an assembly composed of representatives of each of the seven provinces but usually dominated by the largest and wealthiest province, Holland. The stadtholder's power varied, depending on his personal qualities of leadership, and the office eventually became hereditary in the house of Orange. (3)

The Hundred Years' War was, in many respects, a "civil war" as French soldiers fought on both sides, with Burgundy and Aquitaine providing notable support for the Plantagenet side. The conflict lasted 116 years but was punctuated by several periods of peace, before it finally ended in the expulsion of the Plantagenets from France (except the Pale of Calais). The war was eventually a victory for the house of Valois, who succeeded in recovering the Plantagenet gains made initially and expelling them from the majority of France by the 1450s. However, the war nearly ruined the Valois, while the Plantagenets gained huge amounts of plunder from the mainland, which enriched England. France itself likewise suffered greatly from the war, as most of the conflict occurred on the continent. 15. Wat Tyler's Rebellion took place in 1381. The first great popular rebellion in English history.

He ruled according to the Anglo-Saxon laws. He became a Christian. Before he died, he left his throne of England to his son Hardicanute, but as he wasn't in England at the time of his father's deaths, the general feeling turned in favour of his brother, Harold Harefoot. 2 years of conflict followed & eventually Harold Harefoot was acknowledged king. Hardicanute never appeared in person to claim the throne. King Harold I's reign was short & unimpressive. Hardicanute succeeded his half-brother. He was even less attractive than Harold. The English Royal Family was restored in 1042 with Edward the Confessor. His mother had been daughter of the duke of Normandy and he had spent almost all his life in Normandy. of his father's identity. When Anthony died, Douglass was given to Mrs. Lucretia Auld, wife of Captain Thomas Auld. Mrs. Auld then sent Douglass to Baltimore to serve the Captain's brother, Hugh Auld. Early education When Douglass was 12 years old, Hugh Auld's wife, Sophia, broke the law by teaching him some letters of the alphabet. Thereafter, as detailed in his Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave (published in 1845), Douglass succeeded in learning to read from white children in the neighborhood in which he lived, and by observing the writings of the men with whom he worked. When Mr. Auld discovered this, he strongly disapproved, saying that if a slave learns to read, he would become dissatisfied with his condition and desire freedom; Frederick later referred to this as the first anti-abolitionist speech he had ever heard. In 1833, Capt. Auld took Douglass back from his brother after a dispute ("as a means of

Overall, in the 18 th century historical representations in art from were extremely rare, therefore even only sketches of the Tennis Court Oath became very famous. (Friedlaender, 1952, p.22) Moreover, representing crowds of important historical figures as great heroes in the same space was a challenge for David, but he succeeded with great accuracy. (Friedlaender, 1952, p.22) The main characters of the painting are positioned to look more outstanding than others and their muscularity makes them appear even more heroic. (Lajer, 1999, p.106) He placed one of the main figures, Jean Bailly, to the center of the room on a table that divided the room into two sides, but did not break the unity of the whole picture. Britain also excels in the field of scientific and technological innovation. The oldest universities are Oxford and Cambridge which are also centres of scientific research. There have been several British breakthroughs in genetics research, including the identification of genes linked to diseases e.g. a form of breast cancer. In 1997 scientists in Edinburgh succeeded in cloning a sheep. Scotland and Northern Ireland have long been noted for their production of whisky and textiles, notably tweed and linen respectively. Today Scotland is also a major producer of computers. The leading manufacturing regions are Greater London, Greater Manchester, West Midlands (Birmingham), Yorkshire, Newcastle, Glasgow, Bristol. It was found at Port Jackson. The captain of the fleet, Arthur Phillip, became the first governor on New South Wales. The first settlement consisted form convicts and their guards. The convicts were put to work immediately after arriving at Port Jackson, but they were all city-bred and so quite unskillful. At that time, there were about 300000 Aborigines in Australia and luckily for the Brits, not all were hostile. Phillip tried hard to befriend with the natives and he succeeded with Bennelong. Phillip had a hut built for Bennelong on the point where the Sydney Opera House now stands. The second fleet arrived in 1790. That fleet brought soldiers that were called the New South Wales Corps. Their mission was to keep law and order in the colony. However, a great number of the soldiers were corrupted and because there was no currency in the colony, they used rum as the means of exchange. That meant that all soldiers were always drunk and made more mischief than good.

Souls Church, Langham Place. Henry James gave the bride away. Settled in the U.S, and seemed content there until four years later, when a quarrel his wife had had with her brother resulted in a messy law suit and intense media interest. Kipling was horrified by the publicity and returned the family to England, thus continuing the restlessness that had remained with him since childhood. He would always be on the move, looking for somewhere to settle down. But he never quite succeeded in finding a country that lived up to his expectations. After The U.S , South Africa became the next land he felt able to transfer his affections to. The Boer war had just begun, and Kipling, never a man to shirk his imperial responsibilities, threw himself whole heartedly into the fray. He enthusiastically supported the British claim to the territory, and proclaimed that the Dutch settlers must be subdued.

The Great Wildebeest Trek Far to the South, where Gol Kopjes rose like ruined castles from the short-grass plains of the Serengeti, a female wildebeest (A) chomped methodically at the close-knit (B) turf. Only her hindquarters, deeply scarred where a lioness had once almost succeeded in clawing her down, distinguished her from her companions, a harem of perhaps two dozen wildebeest cows, many of them accompanied by their calves, gathered together under the watchful eyes of a mature breeding bull. It was a pattern which repeated itself across the plains in every direction as far as the eye could see. Every year the wildebeest nations of the Serengeti congregated here towards the year’s end, and the scarred female had come with them

I.S. was to obtain intercepts. And in peacetime America that was not easy. Section 605 of the Federal Communications Act of 1934, which prohibits wiretaps, also prohibits the interception of messages between foreign countries and the United States and territories. General Malin Craig, Chief of Staff from 1937 to 1939, was acutely aware of this, and his attitude dampened efforts to intercept the Japanese diplomatic messages coming into America. But after General George C. Marshall succeeded to Craig's post, the exigencies of national defense relegated that problem in his mind to the status of a legalistic quibble. The crypt- analytic agencies pressed ahead in their intercept programs. The extreme secrecy in which they were cloaked helped them avoid detection. They concentrated on radio messages, since the cable companies, fully cognizant of the legal restrictions, in general refused to turn over any foreign communications to them. Consequently, 95 per cent of the
