Keila Joa ajalugu

Keila-Joa castle was built in 19th century by count Alexander von Benckendorff, who was the chief of Russian Secret Police. In 19th century this part of Estonia was under Russian authority. And count Benckendorff was very close to Russian Royal family, because he saved life of Tsar Nikolai 1 in the fire. Count tried to built a castle like himself, rich and majestic. Above the door of castle hung a flag of Benckendorffs. 3 Red roses on blue and gold background with word ,,Persevirance", what means persistance. The castle has its own interesting things inside. For example, there is a vase room for only one vase, which is 2 metres high and weights 42 kilo. It was gifted to count by Nikolai 1. Mrs Benckendorff had her lovely gift from another royal family. When she was a little girl her family stayed at Versailles Palace in France and French Queen Marie Antoinette treated guests with hot chocolate, little future Mrs Benckemdorff seemed very...

pessimists. While spending time with them I feel how their negative and passive attitude is slowly starting to affect me too. I wish it would be the other way round - I'd affect them with my positivity. But I guess unfortunately I adopt different attitudes a lot more easily rather than spreading mine forwards. I think attitudes vary when it comes to different nationalities and cultures. While travelling, I've noticed how different people actually could be, and it depends quite much on where they are from. I think a lot of people would agree with me if I'd say that estonians, for example, are mostly pessimists and always seem to find something bad even in absolutely superb occasions. But, geographically speaking, the more south we go, the more positive attitudes people have. But of course even they have setback in life sometimes. It's up to us whether we want to guard ourselves from bad thoughts that crop up

Can you buy everything for money?

Can you buy everything for money? Money is a resource for which you can afford to buy anything, of course, if this is enough money. But they are also a lot of things (values) that you can not for the money. You can not buy friendship, family, acquaintances and loved ones much more. Money can be used as means of payment can shop in peace, by paying taxes, etc.. Coming back on the friends you can not afford to buy your friends, we do not pay for this, for us who they are. But between, we have a friend do something (to help), and for a small fee to give to a friend. In my opinion, as well as many others have money in the all-powerful, for it can get things done, you should not get in when it is earned. However, I need to stay alive. Money has grown to what it is today. It was originally just a matter of money, which can be converted or wood grain, it was the same as those of high value goods themselves. Bu...

1984 book conclusion

1948 is book that has many ideas twisted together. Lovestory, fears, how Winston whose daily work is rewriting history tries to rebel by falling in love to Julia, altough she isn´t his taste. This book was very interesting because there are many connections to real life for example Big Brother evokes to the cult of personality buillt up around Joseph Stalin, also Winston´s job „revising history“ is based on the Stalinist habit of airbrushing images of „fallen“ people from group photographs and removing references to them in books and newspapers. The thought police is based on the NKVD and the tortures of the Minstry of Love evoke the procedures used by the NKVD. Actually the statement „2+2=5“ that Winston had to beliece was a communist party slogan from the second five-year plan, in which they wanted to full five-year plan in four years. In my opinion it goeds together with nowadays- that people want to get more and faster, they do no...

Waldspirale in German

This city with a population of 141 thousand citizens is known to be a «city of science», so there is no surprise that such an eccentric and creative house was built there in 2000. Many of us reading fairytales have dreamt about living in magic houses and this twelve-storey building twisted in a shell is a dream come true. This eye-catching house, built without any rectangular forms, has a green roof with a garden, for what it was actually called a Forest spiral. There are 105 apartments, garage (), grocery store and a café inside the house as well as the patio () with an artificial pond and playground for kids. But why this house really stands out is that windows in it are situated unusually, going not in one line, but chaotically set in a façade. There are more than 1000 of them and no two are the same. The author of this creation, famous Austrian architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser,

Pay-for performance: necessary or unsuitable way to increase efficiency in the public sector

Using the tool and implementing it successfully needs talented and capable managers. The success is dependant on how managers will go through with the change. Managers have to show commitment and trust into the new system so employees would follow. They have to be willing to change and motivate workers to do the same. They have to take into account that pay-for performance will bring extra responsibilities- paperwork, resolution of conflicts and so on. They have to be able to actually make a distinguish between those who perform better than others, and they have to be able to behave accordingly. It means that civil service needs very competent managers. The problem in pay-for performance is largely in lack of measuring and documenting performance so it would be accurate and complete. Since there are no agreement on standards, indicators, measurement of performance to assess civil servants, the process is very messy and understandable

Werewolves and vampires are ancient enemies but since Edward's family came into existence, an uneasy truce has taken place. To top it all off, a plague of murders taking place in Seattle points to an impending vampire threat. I think my biggest problem with this book is the way Bella constantly deludes herself

nature to adjust. As I said before desertification eventually leads to global warming. Glaciers and permafrost have decreased dramatically on both side of hemisphere. In the future in the South-Europe the temperature in summers may rise so high that people will have to find temporary refuges in the mountains. I've thought about what should be done and I honestly don't know what to do to make the message clear to everybody, to people who actually have the power to make a difference. It comes to my mind that a difference can be made all together. People so far have acted careless and not thinking ahead too far in the future. There have been few who have tried to stand out and make others understand what they should, tried to show what has happened so far and what will happen if no action is taken under consideration. Global warming and our part in it is a serious problem that we have to face. We have to think about the

The Tower of London

Only one bomb was dropped on the Tower during that war and fortunately it fell on the moat. During the Second World War the Tower of London was closed to the public and the crown jewels were removed to a safer location. During the war the Tower suffered bomb damage and two 19th century buildings were destroyed. Part of the Old Hospital Block was also destroyed. Meanwhile Rudolf Hess the Deputy Fuhrer flew to Scotland in May 1941 and was imprisoned in the Tower. However only one German was actually shot in the Tower during World War II. He was a man named Josef Jakobs and he was executed in August 1941. Today the Tower of London is one of London's main tourist attractions.

Men and women in politics

Not only in America, but nationwide. Women comprise over 35 percent of the lower house in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Demark; 15 percent or less are seen in parliaments within ten countries . Over the years, women had to protest and fight for this right so that young women today can vote and have a say so in who represents the people of our city, state, and country. A woman's influence in politics has yet to be recognized as a true political voice of women that actually yields power. Perceptions of women and politics from the media, society, men, and even women themselves have shaped women's ability everywhere to participate politically and socially within our society. The United States, as well as many other countries, has various beliefs regarding the role of women in the political arena. The United States has shown how the political role of a woman has evolved, over time, into a more powerful one. On the other

Workday needs fairy tales

There, the person is together with the running lane, feet gently touching the ground and the target even more clean in front of their eyes. The body is heating up and the clothes are sticking to the sweaty body, the wind blowing through the hair and the sporting goods company Adidas banner: Impossible is nothing, really seems possible. It is the work, that you can see and feel the outcome right away and that's why it feels so inspiring and wonderful. Comes a feeling that ugly duckling can actually become beautiful swan if you work hard and give enough effort. Workday fairy tales can be hidden in unimportant details or be something totally common. Their charm comes in timing. In a right time even a butterfly flying by can make a day like a fairy tale.

American Literature Character Sketch-The Color Purple-Shug Avery

Throughout the novel Celie’s mother was compared to Shug. Celie saw her mother in Shug while she took Shug as a role model herself. Shug had a great influence on Celie who was in a violent marriage. Thanks to Shug, Celie learned to stand up for herself and also got to know herself and her worth. All thanks to the help she received form Shug. I believe that Shug brought Celie back to life as she taught her about self-esteem and self-worth. I think that deep inside Shug was actually a good and caring person, not like it seemed in the beginning of the novel. I also notice some empathy for Celie. Shug was always there for her and supporting her. However, she had some problems with staying with one person. She later fell in love with a yough 19-year-old man. Her heart never fully belonged to one person, she couldn’t love and stay with only one single person. As Shug had many responsibilities, she tried to share her time between her loved ones and work etc

His father forces him to go boxing to continue a family tradition of boxers, but Billy is not really good at it and he doesn't like it either. Then suddenly Billy finds himself a new hobby he actually enjoys and that is ballet. There is a small ballet group in this town, taught by Ms Wilkinson (Julie Walters). She is a strong women and knows how to inspire children to practice. Ms Wilkinson is blown away by Billys unique natural talent of ballet and he is her best dancer. The history of movies

In addition the actors and actresses at this time were told to practice public behavior. Where to eat. How to dress, what they could be seen doing. Made people more equal. Rich and poor families saw the same movies. The children all shared the same wish to be like movie stars. Culture and westernization. The culture in big towns moved over to rural areas. The nation exported it-s culture through movies . Movies were actually key to the westernization of the world as 90% of all movies then were made in hollywood/us. Information travelled faster. At some point the movie companies wanted to expand and do movies further away. People needed to communicate more. Another thing that I read was that world news back then were shown in the beginning at every movie.

possible connections among distant people. The Internet will have positive consequences in people's everyday lives because it increases the quality of communications among people. People with easy access to others feel better connected and more strongly supported by others which leads to happiness. Now, secondly, about the drawbacks of modern life technology. The ease of electronic communication probably leads to weaker social ties, because people have less reason to leave their homes and actually interact face-to-face. It allows people to work from their home, to form friendships from home, to vote and discuss social issues from home. Internet communications can potentially displace face-to-face communications. People tend to loose their real-life communication skills and the generation growing up now has bigger chance to face the problems similar to social anxiety. Alchemy English

This mythical substance could just as well be powder or liquid. Alchemy is considered as the precursor of the modern science of chemistry. The Philospher's stone is perhaps best known in Britain through the best-selling book and movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone. But its origins go back thousands of years to ancient world. In those times a philospher was a secret wizard and a powerful sage. But what exaclty is a philospher's stone? To begin with its not actually a stone at all. It's not a solid rocky substance but a compound substance. That would have been kind of a liquid or jem. Also it is said that the philospher's stone is a unusually heavy red powder or sometimes a red stone. But you also encounter it a yellow waxy material perhaps something like amber. The philosopher's stone isn't can't be found but instead you have to creat it. The problem is that no one know excaktly how. Why did they look for a philosopher's stone

Women writer's influence on our society

She lived in 1860-1927. She was an early realist, back at that time most people wrote about different things. Critics have said that her works were very interesting in many different ways. Her first well-known novel was Stepsister, it's a story about an orphan girl's fate. She describes beginning of the urbanization process a lot. Also, she was one of the first woman writers in Estonia. She wrote about city a lot. You would think that it's just a city, but actually for her it was so much more. For her it was a future vision and she used to word city in more ways than you could ever imagine. She was a little sentimental, wrote about farmers, sailors and citizens life. Thanks to her creation we can learn about Estonia's life and early years of urbanization a lot. Third writer I am going to talk about is Aino Kallas. She lived 1878-1902. Actually she was a Finnish-Estonian writer. She came from Finland and then started writing in Estonian. She has later

Priorities of Estonian History

perspective. Johann Renner, a Baltic German, held his own people in high esteem, deeming them the people of God. He implied this when he wrote that God would save His people from the hand of Gog. He seems to indicate that Gog was the Muscovite people. Perhaps the Muscovite people truly were vicious towards Baltic peoples, but perhaps not. Whatever the case, his biases colored his writing, likely distorting the truth as to how things actually were and how events actually happened.1 The same can be said of chronicles written by German B. Russow, who praised Swedish rule, and D. Fabricius, a Catholic Pole who favored Polish rule and rendered a Polish perspective of history. Russian history during the imperial period also shows such an ideological influence. Juri Fiodorovitsch Samanarin, for example, strove to explain to the Russians its mission and identity as the ruling people, not merely a minority,

the largest manufacturer soon. However, he questions whether Chinese language grows at the same pace as its economy. Graddol's teaching in Hong Kong starts with a lecture called "World Englishes". He notes that he wrote his book "The Future of English" in 1997, same year when China got Hong Kong back from Britain. Graddol reminds the students, how many things wasn't happened then: euro was not put in use, even Windows 98 was not ready. He had been in Hong Kong before that, actually, making a TV-programme about global English for BBC, which showed that Putonghua, the native language, had become more important. Nevertheless, that programme was never completed, because no one thought it was interesting enough. Then Graddol writes about importance of language and how it should be assessed. He discusses whether it should be the number of speakers, their social status or even wealth and whether the number of speakers of Putonghua should include only native speakers, which is 1

The aim of this report is to compare hobbies of Estonian and Russian young people in Tallinn.

Tallinn doing sports, learning languages, dancing and singing folk music. The first hobby I am going to compare is sport. 21.0% of Estonian youngsters said that their favorite hobby is sport and 31.5% of Russian young people said that it is their favorite hobby too. So we can say that Russians are more active than Estonians. We can also say that Russian youngsters take more care about their bodies and health than Estonians. The second hobby I questioned them about was dancing. Dancing can actually be considered as a sport too, so it is also good for the human body. 10.7% of Estonians told me that they love dancing and that they go to dance classes regularly. 19.1% of the Russians said that dancing is a part of their lives. So I can say it again: the young Estonians do not have as active lifestyle as Russians do. The third hobby I am going to compare is learning languages. According to the diagram the second most popular hobby is learning languages

"The Game" - Neil Strauss

This book provides a fascinating account of what made Neil Strauss the Syle, his seduction society. Therefore this book will make you WANT to know who he is. Not only does this book take a fascinating look into the many methods of gaining women's attention--and phone numbers--but describes in detail the characters who make up this "society of pick-up artists", as well. It's not a lesson-by-lesson book detailing "forbidden" methods of "tricking" women into going to bed with you. It's actually more of one man's personal number of frustrations and victories of dealing with women.Strauss learns his own lessons. It's a description of one man's journey from master loser, to master seductor. It all starts with Styles account of growing up "far from attractive," and far from satisfied with his sex life. All it took to change that was a call from a book editor, asking Strauss to take the mysterious "Layguide" that existed on the Internet, and turn it into a " how-to book". Through

Although photography is an old hobby, modern technology has changed the whole idea of it. In addition because of modern breakthrough blogging as a hobbie is also possible. It is actually writing but you can write anything you want and publish it to many blogging sites. A good writing skill may lead to fame for a blogger and become a major earning source. did they do/how/why are they relevant to translation studies?) St. Jerome – Greek scholar, did some translation work. Lived during the 4th century. Jerome is best known as the translator of the Bible into Latin. A previous version (now called the Old Latin) existed, but Jerome's version far surpassed it in scholarship and in literary quality. Jerome was well versed in classical Latin (as well as Greek and Hebrew), but deliberately translated the Bible into the style of Latin that was actually spoken and written by the majority of persons in his own time. This kind of Latin is known as Vulgate Latin (meaning the Latin of the common people), and accordingly Jerome's translation is called the Vulgate. Cicero – Lived during the 1st century BC. very unfavorable. Homosexuality is discriminated against everywhere: in at least 80 countries, homosexual acts are forbidden by law (Algeria, Senegal, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Bosnia...); in many countries, the punishment can exceed ten years in prison (Nigeria, Libya, Syria, India, Malaysia, Jamaica...); sometimes, the law prescribes life imprisonment (Guyana, Uganda). And in a dozen countries, capital punishment may be actually carried out (Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia...). In Africa, recently, several presidents have brutally acted on their will to combat personally this "scourge" which they consider "anti-African". Even in other countries where homosexuality is not considered a crime, persecutions have multiplied. In Brazil, for example, death squads and skin heads spread terror: 1,960 homophobic murders have been officially reported between 1980 and 2000. In these conditions, it is difficult to think that

Of course there are certain situation as well, where swearing is unacceptable, for example formal events, among people who are complete strangers, with parents, grandparents, at school etc. Although swearing may be in some ways a positive phenomenon, people should use swear words only when really necessary or where it is acceptable. Of course, parents should teach their children, why they can not use certain words and how offensive they are. Actually all people swear and it has beocome quite common, even more common than one might think and it is better to get sworn at than punched at.

Story about English Humor

Certainly we cannot talk about all disabled people from that point of view, but the exception affirms the rule. And in Britain, you can find a lot of exceptions. The second thing which also amused me was the humiliation of other people for unjustified reasons. The scene of a transsexual lady, feeling sick and puking in the teacup was a perfect example of humiliation in nowadays just in different context. It is a real problematic topic every single country and it only gets worse. Actually it is quite sad that people are only laughing at it, ignoring the problem whether they see it or not. But as to look from the other side then it is good that even if people haven't noticed it yet, then maybe the problem comes out from making fun of it? Maybe NOW people really notice that, yes, we have a problem here. And maybe that forces people to find solutions. But that's only my imaginary. The third thing which caught my attention was the scene where a disabled lady named

Westminster Today

Westminster Hall was built in 1099 by the son of William the Conqueror and is one of the largest medieval halls. It was part of the Westminster Palace, which was destroyed by a fire in 1834. The Houses of Parliament that we see today were rebuilt in the 19th century after the fire. The Big Ben clock tower is the largest four-sided ringing clock in the world and it is also one of the London's most famous symbols. Some think that Big Ben is the name of the clock on the tower, but actually it is the name of the big 13-ton bell that rings every fifteen minutes. The most historic religious building in Britain is Westminster Abbey, a beautiful church across the street from the Houses of Parliament. It was begun between 1042 and 1065 when the English king Edward the Confessor built a church on the site where the abbey now stands. In 1245, King Henry III began work on the main part of what is now Westminster Abbey.

The poor farmer's daugters

She liked music and dancing, moving slighter than wind and almost floating on the dance floor. Her hair was a mix between light brown and dark yellow, and her eyes were the most ordinaries ones light gray. Angelique had a twin sister Esme. Esme was an hour younger, yet she was taller than Ange. She preferred art to everything else in this world. Often she and Renate, the last- found child, ran off to the mountains behind the forest and drew whole day! Actually, as a matter of fact, Rena and Esme really looked similar: both had light brown hair and dark green eyes, not forgetting to mention the shiny smile they wore when drawing.

Product and corporate advertising

It was pure pleasure to do a campaign with people I like and for a product I love." That makes lots of his devoted fans also considering buying it. Therefore I think that campaign gains more positive attention that Diet Pepsi's campaign. Overall I must say comparing the two campaigns I like Diet Coke's best because it is different from The Company's usual marketing style and it may lead to gaining more market share. Diet Pepsi's advertisement is matching their usual style. Actually I think the poster is great but the gossip around the advertisement causes this advertisement to fail because people nowadays are not approving and liking the advertisements where women are made slimmer/taller/prettier.

Summary - IT in motorsport

almost everything of his car with the wheel. Usually F1 wheels have also LED screens which can display as many as 100 pages of info and data. Third topic I talked about was simulators. Modern road circuit simulators can be very similar to real life experience. For example most of the testing in F1 are made with simulators because it is much cheaper and also testing kilometres and time is limited. But the rally simulator have not yet reached that kind of level. They are similar but doesn’t actually simulate the real life. I think the cause of this is that it’s much harder to simulate all kind of different road surfaces like snow or gravel etc and also it’s harder to drive and so it has less market. Last topic I talked about was about video analysis. Modern on-board cameras are very small and they record high definition video. Videos are important to analyse your driving technique.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE You hear a lot about living a healthy lifestyle, enough that the phrase 'healthy lifestyle' may be one we'd like to permanently retire. The problem is, that phrase describes the life we need to live if we want to feel good and look good. So, what does it actually mean? Well, there are the obvious things that describe a healthy person: He or she doesn't smoke, is at a healthy weight, eats healthy foods not trans fats and exercises on a regular basis. It sounds so simple, it's funny just how hard it is to do all of those things in our current world. The good news is, you don't have to change everything at the same time. In fact, the trick to healthy living is making small changes. Take more steps each day,

Toompea lossi inglisekeelne kirjeldus

This is Toompea Castle. The history of Toompea is actually the story of rulers and power in Estonia. The times and rulers changed and so did power and mentalities – each new ruler built and fortified this place according to his needs and taste. Today, visitors to Toompea can find here buildings mostly dating from three periods: the medieval order’s stronghold with its impressive western wall and towers, the most well-known of which is the tower of Tall Herman; the Russian-era government administration

The fifth element

life. The movie was brightened up with a lot of humorous scenes and characters. There was this usual Bruce Willis type of humour, also this young Leeloo who firstly didn't know anything and acted like a baby and also there was this really annoying character- DJ Ruby Rhod. It was quite unusual to combine real serious plot (destroying life) to comedy so it wasn't an usual science fiction. Compare to ohter this type of films this was actually quite enjoyable even though the plot was really predictable. The thing what was really ridiculous was these silly costumes. Usually the aliens should look scary, but in this film you just can't stop laughing at them and this blue singing diva? Theres no way you can take her seriously. The only scary thing was maybe the voice of the ultimate evil character. But besides funny moments there is also some action going.

The highest result of education is tolerance

The highest result of education is tolerance Ladies and gentleman! Today I will discuss a topic what is opened by a quote by beautiful Helen Keller: The highest result of education is tolerance. Today is the day you will understand that her quote is accurate. So I should probably start with a question. Why should we be tolerant to weird kids at school? Does anybody in this room know why?........Okay, let's just drop that question for now, we'll come back to it later. If I would ask you Where do we get our education from you all would probably say: From schools duuuh! But what is a school? Tallinn English College? Yeah, it is a school with all those fancy numbers with what you can become successful........but the greatest education comes from the life school where we learn about other people's views and thoughts. And when those views happen to have even a slight difference from our own then we start a discussion ...

Analysis of an article

Proximity: 10/10 I believe that at the moment this story will only affect Estonians, so it is very proximate. The topic of it is affecting people around the globe, though. Conflict: 6/10 The story contains several conflicts. 1. Will people change their eating habits to save the planet or keep eating the way they do, knowing the damage that it will cause? 2. Will meat substitutes resemble meat or taste and smell like the things that they're actually made of? 3. Will people get used to the new tastes and textures or not? Controversy: 2/10 The story hasn't brought up any conflicts (yet) and I do not believe that it will. It also received only one comment. But other news on this topic have caused arguments. Prominence: 0/10 There weren't any prominent and well-known people in this story, only some unknown scientists. Uniqueness: 7/10 In Estonia, this story is quite unique. Altough there are already companies selling

All the world's a puzzle;arutlev kirjand

It has economy vocabulary and two huge countries: the US and Canada. Especially I'm curious about the last one since one of my favourite music bands, Billy Talent's homeland is Canada. Breaking Benjamin, vocalist number one to my mind, is tightly connected to that wonderful country as well. We studied it casually in form 8, but I'd like to overlearn some facts and maybe even get new ones. Unit three has the honour to gift us reading, grammar, listening and other needful exercises we might actually use in real life after all, that's what the school's about; it's preparing us to dive into the frozen ocean of realistic life of the adulthood without getting any scratches. And, since we're all really eager to learn new things from our English textbooks, I'm sure that one day we'll be able to perfectly complete that dive and be happy, enjoying every single day like it's the last one we'll ever see (not considering 2012).

My favourite cartoon character

Donald continued to be a hit with audiences. The character began appearing in most Mickey Mouse cartoons as a regular member of the ensemble with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto Tintin Georges Rime created Tintin 1929 Tintin is an adventurer teenager journalist who becomes involved in dangerous cases in which he takes heroic action. Almost every adventure features Tintin hard at work at his investigative reporting, but he is rarely seen actually turning in a story. He is a young man of more or less neutral attitudes and is less colourful than the supporting cast. Other characters are the talking dog Snowy, Prof. Calculus, Captain Haddock, detective Thomson and verity of supporting actors. Tweety and Sylvester In 1945 Bob Clampet created Tweety Bird and Friz Freleng created Sylvester the cat as separate cartoon characters. In 1947 they appeared together In the first pairing, a cartoon called "Tweetie Pie",
