Mõtteterad/aforismid

and when you start to miss me..remember..you let me go As you left and said your good-byes, you forgot to tell my heart how to live without you. I would die for you. Enjoy your life today because yesterday had gone and tomorrow may never come. Every girl deserves to feel good about herself, and see how beautiful she really is.. Every morning he tells me I'm gorgeous. I am actually starting to believe him... Everyone's going to hurt you sooner or later, you just have to decide who's worth going through the pain. A best friend is the one who can look at you with the biggest smile on your face and still know some things wrong.. Girls have unique magic tricks, they get wet without water, bleed without injury, and make boneless things hard. Giving up doesn't always mean you are weak;sometimes it means that you are strong enough to let go !...

Hemingway A Farewell to Arms (themes, motifs, symbols)

The Grim Reality of War - As the title of the novel makes clear, A Farewell to Arms concerns itself primarily with war, namely the process by which Frederic Henry removes himself from it and leaves it behind. The few characters in the novel who actually support the effort--Ettore Moretti and Gino--come across as a dull braggart and a naïve youth, respectively. The majority of the characters remain ambivalent about the war, resentful of the terrible destruction it causes, doubtful of the glory it supposedly brings. The novel offers masterful descriptions of the conflict's senseless brutality and violent chaos: the scene of the Italian army's retreat remains one of the most profound evocations of war in American literature...

Stilistika loeng

Although still somewhat chaotic and unorganized stylistics is a vigorous young science with wide potential and prospects. THE COLOURING OF THE WORD Meaning of a word has: a denotation (meaning proper, we find it in dictionaries) and a connotation (an additional shade of meaning). Connotation is also: overtones, colouring, charge, and shade of meaning all this actually means the same. The bulk of words have denotation (in any language)(e.g. tree, time, quick, to take, etc.). Connotation may be a permanent part of word meaning it is then called inherent connotation. Connotation is ever present when the word is used. Adherent connotation is the shade of meaning the word requires in a particular context only. Outside this context this shade of meaning is not present. Connotation is not uniform (even)...

Exami kysimused-vastused

"Fool!", "Pig!" etc.). d) String epithet involves several epithets used side by side (e.g. "A nice, mild, kind, pleasant gentleman"). Semantically epithets are classified into: metaphorical (based on metaphor: e.g. "soft smile") and transferred elements (the quality of one thing is transferred to its nearest neighbour (e.g. "He was tossing on the sleepless pillow." actually he was sleepless and not the pillow). 2. Oxymoron is a combination of 2 words (attributive and adverbial), the meaning of which clash (e.g.: living corpse, shout silently). If repeated frequently, an oxymoron may lose its stylistic quality and become a colloquial phrase (e.g. awfully nice). The function of oxymoron is to stress, to bring out contradictory notions (e.g. an old young man). 3. Hyperbole is used to evoke an emotional response, irony, humor...

The horse still doesn't let Grace near himself. But in the end the horse accepts and she can ride her loved horse again. Lebel and the Jackal

The Jackal was known in the book under many names, such as Alexander Duggan, Per Jensen, Marty Schulberg, Andre Martin and Charles Calthrop. That shows that he was indeed a very clever man, he saw everything coming and thought ahead. He was very assured and he knew, what he was doing, he had it all figured out on his mind. He was, as a human, actually quite nice to some people, but he could not let anyone to interrupt his task, otherwise he killed them. The Jackal had to make many difficult decisions during the hunt, what were a matter of life and death and he always chose the one, which let him live. I think that in his private life he was very handsome and gentlemanlike. He tried not to link his private life and work, but in one case he did and that nearly cost his life....

Connecting Ideas Logically and Effectively

It is therefore recommended that he should not be promotcd at this time. Discussion 3 The most logical version of each report is 1b) and 2a). In these versions the ideas are organized so that they directly support the recommendation. In 1a) and 2b), on the other hand, the organization of ideas would seem to lead towards quite the opposite recommendation to the one which is actually given. How does this happen? In both versions of each report, the writer has a positive and a negative point to discuss. For instance in 1, the positive point is the machine's efficiency, the negative point is the cost. Which point the writer wishes to emphasize will depend on the recommendation: to support a negative recommendation (we should not purchase the machine) the negative point should be emphasized; to...

Kuidas kirjutada esseed

The only way to write a good essay is to have experiences to support your essay topic. Don't let this essay stress you out. Try to have fun with the brainstorming process; it might even reveal things you never consciously realized. Once you have completed the brainstorming process, you'll have a rough idea of what you actually want to write about. You should now also have the idea of what impression you are seeking to make on the admissions committee. Now, you must confront the problem of selecting the topic that will allow you to synthesize your important personal characteristics and experiences in a coherent whole while simultaneously addressing your desire to attend that particular college Selecting the Essay Topic The key to a strong essay is a good topic...

The surrounding circular, earth bank and ditch, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Stonehenge was produced by a culture with no written language. Many aspects of Stonehenge remain subject to debate. This is better than saying 'nothing' or 'stayed the same', because it tells us what we actually see. Universal indicator and the pH scale Universal indicator is a mixture of several different indicators. It has many different colour changes. Unlike litmus, universal indicator can show us how strongly acidic or alkaline a solution is, and its pH. The pH scale runs from pH 0 to pH 14. These are the important points about the pH scale: · neutral solutions are pH 7 exactly · acidic solutions have pH values less than 7 · alkaline solutions have pH values more than 7...

Fame is a Fickle Food

"Fame is a Fickle Food" by Emily Dickinson Analysis Liisi Pajula In her poem "Fame is a Fickle Food", Emily Dickinson quite clearly compares fame to something very changing and uncertain. She compares it to food, which at first seems tempting, but is actually venomous and deadly. From the very beginning of the poem, we get the idea that Dickinson has her mind set against fame and those, who run after it. With using words such as 'fickle' and 'shifting' she very successfully demonstrates that fame is not permanent and should thus be handled with care. Dickinson also says that true fame is something one can achieve only once ("Whose table once a Guest, but not / The second time is set")....

Topic - Canada 2

Confusing the issue further, many Canadian entertainers and Canadian entertainment companies are often assumed to be American performers or American basedcompanies. Also, Americans and Canadian alike, often, assume certain cultural phenomena started in the USA and were later copied by Canadians from Americans, when they often started elsewhere. "Canadian Idol" is a great example. The show actually started in Britain and was first called "Pop Idol". Both the Canadian and American versions are imitations of this show. As a whole, Canada and the United States share a very similar culture, which can be defined as "North American." Some areas in the United States are more similar in culture to adjacent areas in Canada than to other portions of the United States (and vice versa), have similar speaking styles and...
