ENGLISH IN MY LIFE
The British , defeated Bonaparte at the battle of Waterloo and peace settled across Europe after many years of war, the defeat of France saw the rise of Britain upon the world stage and the beginnings of the wholesale export of the English language across the globe , in the last century Britain an America again defeated tyranny in Europe the English language has evolved through popular culture , movies , music , sport , business and especially with the shrinking of the world through use of the internet to become what it is now a truly international language.
Here in Estonia with our history of domination by foreign powers the last being the former soviet union an having our own language suppressed an languages imposed on us , it is a relief to see the importance of the English language an people have embraced it as a second language of Estonian people, it is the language that everybody feels a need an indeed a desire learn. As being able to speak English allows Estonians the chance to go away and benefit from the higher salarys available in the the English speaking nations such as America, Canada, England Ireland and Austrailia, although of course economic migration is not exclusive to the states that speak only English an understanding of English is a key to unlocking the benefits of travel not to mention the economic benefits to Estonia with much of the money earned abroad being sent back to supplement family incomes here at home.
I began to learn the language at third grade and in the beginning I did not really see it had any relevance to me , however as I became exposed to more an more ‘english’ through music I heard or movies I saw my own knowledge of English increased really through exposure to it , a movie made much more sense and my enjoyment of a movie was increased by actually understanding the dialogue spoken by the actors rather than reading it via the subtitles. The explosion of the internet an the easy access to the world wide web increased my usage of English an I began to appreciate the benefits in my own life. I was able to obtain my first job as a waitress because of my ability to speak English. I use English everyday of my life an I can not imagine life without it it would not be an understatement to say that my knowledge of English and my ability to communicate in that language has changed my life and raised my expectations for what I hope to achieve.

Essey: How does the United States influence Estonia

Soviet Union in World War II. In Estonia the influence of the United States is felt the most in cultural sphere. We live in a society that is no longer limited by state borders when it comes to consuming different goods and media. The United States are not the only cultural imperialists, but I would say that in Estonia their influence is the biggest. American films, TV programs, pop music and brand labels are a big part of everyday life for almost every Estonian. Of course, it is not only the case of Estonia. Americanization is taking place all over the world. We could say, that we are just dealing with globalization, but since the most influence apparently comes from US and not equally from the rest of the world, I would say we rather deal with Americanization. Language is unquestionably an integral part of culture and through language people recognise their national identity

THE CAPITALIST NIGER

I see myself as an Economic Warrior for my people and not a victim. As a predator and not a victim, I have decided to confront the truth of my misfortune and when I look in the mirror I see the culprit standing right in front of me – it is me. As the saying goes, truth shall set you free. Truth has set me free. The truth in being a Capitalist Nigger is that it sets you free. Being a Capitalist Nigger puts you in control of every aspect of your life – you are in charge and nobody else. You want your children to have good grades in school? Then practice Capitalist Niggerism because then you will not blame the teachers for failing your children or blame the nationwide testing services for using non-black questions in their testing. You will be in control because you will totally understand that everything that happens to your child at school is a result of the learning environment you have provided him or her at home.

began teaching us French. But it was awkward and I'm not sure they themselves knew what they were doing or why. I can recall we cut out some pictures and glued them to a book and wrote some words up. I also recall the pronounciation was simplified for us, for example, they taught us "gööl" as the correct way to say "girl" etc. They never mentioned that it's not exactly correct... But well, then I switched schools and met the most important man of my life – my English teacher. He had three masters – in English, in German and in Physical Education. He had also written the school hymn. He was very stern with us and made us study like crazy. You made one tiny mistake, and it was "4", two mistakes made a "3" and so on. He was an awesome teacher. He said we can talk in his class as much as we want provided we do it in English. He also had us count the passing train cars in English, instead of Estonian. He made up the books himself, because there were none at

A letter to host family

Ranna, my father is Head teacher in Alatskivi high school. I have one sister and one brother. My sister Aurelia, is 3 years old and is going to kinder garden. My brother Rasmus is 12 years old, and is in sixth grade in Pala primary school. After finishing highschool I plan to go to Estonian Aviation Academy, but I am yet to make up my mind concerning my future area of specialization. So, at the moment, I would like to take some time out of academics to have a different life experience, and to have time to calmly reflect on my future academic/professional orientation. To this end, I think spending a year abroad would be particularly interesting. My first language is, of course, Estonian, but I am also fluent in English. I started learning English in primary school at 3 grade and by watching movies I have improved my vocabulary a lot. I speak an intermediate level of Russian. I began learning it in fifth grade and all in all, I have learnt Russian for 6 years.

Might the Welsh language face a bright future

Might the Welsh language face a bright future?

Might the Welsh language face a bright future? Welsh belongs to a branch of Celtic, an Indo-European language. The language is being used about half a million people in Wales and possibly another few hundred thousand people within England and even Australia and United States of America. The normal language of every day life is still English but in some regions such as Gwynedd and Dyfed, the use of Welsh is very wide and well spread. The tendency nowadays is towards the development and introduction of Welsh. This could not have been said at the first part of the 20th century. Welsh have been under the reign or a part of Great Britain for a long time. During the 16 th century, particularly at the time of Henry the VIII, they tried to force the Welsh language
