Which is more important-sport or science?

This is something that has had me in two minds for a very long time, why does humanity waste so much time and money on sport and the pursuit of sport when realistically it is just a sideshow, a morale booster for the masses? The sheer volume of money spent each year on sports are actually absolutely ridiculous. Sports have become a monster that is beyond our control. This happens as legitimate scientific research struggles to find funding or a struggle along with tiny handouts from patronising governments around the world. Space exploration is probably the prime example in that it is now, at this stage of human

second time is set"). She goes on to explain that after fame has faded, its not too pleasant insides become visible and even the crows inspect the leftovers, but decide to turn to the farmer's corn. The crows could also represent the many followers famous people get (fans etc), who turn away as soon as they see the fame becoming less bright. Dickinson ends the poem by saying that men, who eat the dish of fame, die. This means that they have spent their lives in search and pursuit of fame and have lost sight of everything important. Stylistically it is a very lovely poem. It flows nicely, although there is an abrupt change of pace in the last line, but that also carries a significance - to highlight the importance of the last sentence. She has also comprised the stanzas very logically the main idea carries over very well. Dickinson has not used too complex metaphors or stylistic devices, which sometimes make a poem harder to read.

The film ,,Seven pounds" shows, that there are not only bad and cold, but also kindhearted and caring people around us. Even though I don't think it's right that he committes a suicide, I think what he did was really moving. I love the film, because I got so many emotions while whatching it and I love whatching movies that affect me somehow. But I think that the Welsh language itself will not either. I think that us, Estonians can understand their pursuit very well and the tendency in the world towards preserving smaller languages, is in its high point.

barely twenty five and plus, maybe even younger. The figures keep growing. No wonder, if there are already children's books on "mummy's going under a knife"- a role model from early years onwards. And we tolerate these things blindfold, letting everything natural be succeed out of our life. Is this not a bit too overboard? For me, it is. To sum up, we have to face and tolerate many innovative ideas encouraged by the pursuit of personal freedom, but is it a reason enough to get so mixed up that we do not know who we are any more. I do not think so. I believe men should stay men and women should stay women. Traditional families as a model and not forget about being natural. Thanks for listening!

The state of nature involves people living together, governed by reason, without need of a common superior. The state of war occurs when people exert unwelcome force on other people, interfering with their own natural rights and freedom, without common authority. The difference between war in society and war in nature depends on when they end. In society, war

The future is determining present. 1. Beautiful bodies will give us children, who will honor us after we are dead (but only up to a point). Gorgias, On Rhetoric Gorgias argues that rhetoric, the art of persuasion is the highest art. Socrates: the rhetorician is like a cook who prepares a meal that everyone will enjoy, while the philosopher is like a doctor who must sometimes give his patients unpleasant medicine to make them better. - Pursuit of pleasure is not the highest good. The tyrant who can do whatever he wants is neither happy nor truly powerful (a theme which will be taken up again in The Republic). In the afterlife we will all have to be judged naked. But the more authentic Stendhal is to be found elsewhere, and above all in a cluster of favourite ideas: the hostility to the concept of "ideal beauty," the notion of modernity, and the exaltation of energy, passion, and spontaneity. His personal philosophy, to which he himself gave the name of "Beylisme" (after his real family name, Beyle) stressed the importance of the "pursuit of happiness" by combining enthusiasm with rational skepticism, lucidity with willful surrender to lyric emotions. "Beylisme," as he understood it, meant cultivating a private sensibility while developing the art of hiding and protecting it. Charterhouse of Parma is Stendhal's other masterpiece. Some of these conflicts were between Protestants and Catholics; others were between different branches of Protestantism. Swift does not clearly distinguish between these different kinds of religious strife. Swift has his Lilliputian informant blame the "civil commotions" on the propaganda of the Emperor of Blefuscu, i.e. the King of France; this primarily reflects the encouragement given by King Louis XIV of France to James II in pursuit of his policies to advance the toleration of Catholicism in Great Britain. He adds that "when (the commotions) were quelled, the (BigEndian) exiles always fled for refuge to that empire (Blefuscu/France)". This partially reflects the exile of King Charles II on the Continent (in France, Germany, the Spanish Netherlands, and the Dutch Republic) from 1651 to 1660, but more particularly the exile of the Catholic King James II from 16881701. James II was dead by the time

Hemingway A Farewell to Arms (themes, motifs, symbols)

When Catherine instructs him not to think about her when they are apart, Henry replies, "That's how I worked it at the front. But there was something to do then." The transformations of the war from fatal threat into divertissement and love from distraction into pain signal not only Henry's attachment to Catherine but also the transitory nature of happiness. Pathos radiates from this fleeting happiness because, even though happiness is temporary, the pursuit of it remains necessary. Perhaps an understanding of the limits of happiness explains the count's comment that though he values love most in life, he is not wise for doing so. The count is wiser than he claims, however. He hedges against the transitory nature of love by finding pleasure and amusement in games, birthday parties, and the taking of "a little stimulant." That one can depend on their simple

This chain was created in a time when the world was considered to be more static rather than a diverse collection of dynamic ideas. But the Newtonian revolution of the seventeenth century replaced the old static world with a new world view in which everything was naturally in motion. In the course of the eighteenth century the notion of progress, of gradual but relentless pursuit of betterment, began to take hold in western thought. It was only natural that the ideas of change and of progress should eventually be applied to the Great Chain of Being. The natural implication of a "dynamic" chain of being was a sort of tree of life, gradually sprouting upward from basic primordial ooze, branching outward into all the varied species on our fine planet, ending with, of course, eighteenth century Man. this, the effort on man's part to provide a store of things that minister to his comforts and wants -- and not for himself alone, but for his wife and children and the others whom he holds dear and for whom he ought to provide; and this responsibility also stimulates his courage and makes it stronger for the active duties of life. Above all, the search after truth and its eager pursuit are peculiar to man. And so, when we have leisure from the demands of business cares, we are eager to see, to hear, to learn something new, and we esteem a desire to know the secrets or wonders of creation as indispensable to a happy life. Thus we come to understand that what is true, simple, and genuine appeals most strongly to a man's nature. To this passion for discovering truth there is added a hungering, as it were, for independence, so that a mind well-moulded

THE CAPITALIST NIGER

We must be risk takers rather than risk-averters. A financial genius conducted an experiment with a group of men. He told them that he had a $1 on one hand and $15,000 on the other hand. They could choose to take $15,000 now or the $1 in 20 years. Everybody of course chose the $15,000. After they had made their selection, the financial guru showed them how the $1 invested in compounded interest could have yielded about $690,000 at the end of the 20 years. RUTHLESSNESS IN PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE You must possess great discipline and iron hand if you are to succeed in this world. A Capitalist Nigger must embody ruthlessness in pursuit of excellence in his drive towards achieving his goal of being an economic warrior. He must fiercely ruthless with himself if he is to abandon the baggage that we as Africans carry all our lives until our graves: the notion that somebody owes us something. Continental Africans think the world owes them something

Main Ideas of the American Enlightenment: The Enlightenment caused a shift in the cultural and social attitudes of the people, bringing in some new and radical ideas. Republicanism: The doctrine of republicanism asserts a system of a government that is elected by the people of the nation. The roots of this ideology go back to ancient Greece, when the concept of a democratic government was examined by philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle. Individual Liberty: "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness" developed as the motto of this era, which forms the cornerstone of the U.S. Constitution today. Since the colonies had very few individual rights, they declared certain fundamental rights that they deemed "inalienable." Democracy: The colonies had no say in the formation of the government, and had no representation in the lawmaking process. Consequently, they were attracted to the idea of democracy, where the government is "of the people, by the people, for the people," as

Style colouring words lend their colouring to the whole utterance. It is sometimes sufficient to have 2-3 words in a paragraph to make the latter either poetic or solemn etc depending on the nature of those 2-3 words. Common literary vocabulary Are not confined to any sphere of usage. Here mainly belong borrowed words. E.g. Yearly-annual, hint-allusion, to see-to behold, talk-converse, true-authentic. The man fell-the individual was precipitated, hard study made him sleepy-indefatigable pursuit of knowledge endowed somnolence in him. Sometimes lit words are used for the sake of humour. Especially when they describe very trivial actions. Special literary vocabulary Terms belong to scientific discourse. They are indispensible for the development of science. E.g. malaria (med), blood vessel, spinal cord; linguistics semantics, syntax, chiasmus. Outside this direct application the function of the terms changes

Othello opens in the stately city of Venice

He then takes to calling Desdemona a “whore” and a “strumpet”, railing against her. Desdemona is distraught by her husband’s treatment of her, sure that she is being punished for some unknown crime. Emilia once again shows foresight by saying it is as though someone has turned Othello against her. However, when his opinion is asked, Iago only states that it is politics that have Othello so worked up. In yet another conversation with Roderigo, Iago convinces him not to give up his pursuit just yet. He enlists Roderigo’s assistance in the end in the murder of Cassio, telling him that Cassio’s death will keep Othello and Desdemona in Cyprus. Scene 3 Othello, deciding to walk with Lodovico demands that Desdemona retreat to her chambers and dismiss her maid. Desdemona then discusses with Emilia what seems to be a premonition of her own death, requesting that her body be wrapped in her wedding sheets. Emilia comments on the

Baskervillide koer

When it was discovered that she was missing, one of the guests suggested using the hounds on her, which Hugo quickly acted on. When the guests realized what was happening, thirteen of them rode off on their horses to stop Hugo and the hounds. Before they reach him, a frightened shepherd tells them he saw the chase, but that there was also a hound of hell close behind Hugo. His horse soon passes them, riderless and on its way back. Even the hounds that were in pursuit of the maiden are now just whimpering about. Three of the riders continue on, down into a clearing where they find the girl dead and a giant black hound tearing out the throat of Hugo Baskerville. Holmes does not find the legend to be of particular interest, until Mortimer shows him a recent newspaper article. It describes Sir Charles as well liked and charitable, reflecting sadly that the recently deceased was only an inhabitant of Baskerville Hall for two years

In America, the role of government is seen as enabling/not getting in the way of: "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness". In Canada, the role is often described as: "Peace, Order and Good Government". This doesn't always happen, in either nation, but that is the mentality. The difference says a lot about how differently citizens view the government and what they expect it to do. Canada is somewhat inherently focused on the collective, both as a nation, and as part of the world. America sees itself, from the outside, at least, as a singular nation that is

Yet, all surveys face a common challenge, which is how to produce precise estimates by surveying only a relatively small proportion of the larger population, within the limits of the social, economic and technological environments associated with countries and survey populations in countries. This chapter is about solving these common problems that we described as the cornerstones of surveying. When understood and responded to, the cornerstone challenges will assure precision in the pursuit of one’s survey objectives. 1.2 What is a survey? A quick review of the literature will reveal many different definitions of what constitutes a survey. Some handbooks on survey methodology immediately describe the major components of surveys and of survey error instead of giving a definition (e.g., Fowler, Gallagher, Stringfellow, Zalavsky Thompson & Cleary, 2002, p. 4; Groves, 1989, p. 1), others provide definitions, ranging from concise definitions (e.g., Czaja & Blair, 2005, p

Tulemuseks on vana võimu kukutamine (1775 1783). Kuna puudub kompromiss, alustatakse sõjategevust. II kontinentaalkongress võtab vastu iseseisvuse 1776. Organiseeritakse sõjaväge, mille juhiks saab George Washington. 4.7. 1776 avaldatakse iseseisvusdeklaratsioon, mille pms autoriks on Thomas Jefferson. See dokument levib ka Euroopasse ning leiab üldise imetluse. Deklaratsioonis formuleeritakse inimõigused (Life, liberty and pursuit of happiness). 1776 hakkab Prantsusmaa majanduslikult toetama ameeriklasi brittide nõrgendamiseks. Oluline on ka sõjaline abi, mida juhib La Fayette. 1778 sõlmiti Prantsumaa-USA poliitiline liit, mis on Benjamin Franklini teeneks. Üllatuseks on Briti palgasõdurite kaotus ameeriklastele (1781). Rahuläbirääkimisi vahendab Prantsusmaa ning sõlmitakse lõpuks Pariisi rahu. Inglismaa tunnistab USA iseseisvust. Põhiseadus jõustub 1789.

'Tis only to convince you, as I promised. By wheedling speeches, since I'm forced to do it, I'll make this hypocrite put off his mask, Flatter the longings of his shameless passion, And give free play to all his impudence. But, since 'tis for your sake, to prove to you His guilt, that I shall feign to share his love, I can leave off as soon as you're convinced, And things shall go no farther than you choose. So, when you think they've gone quite far enough, It is for you to stop his mad pursuit, To spare your wife, and not expose me farther Than you shall need, yourself, to undeceive you. It is your own affair, and you must end it When . . . Here he comes. Keep still, don't show yourself. SCENE V TARTUFFE, ELMIRE; ORGON (under the table) TARTUFFE They told me that you wished to see me here. ELMIRE Yes. I have secrets for your ear alone. nation’s desire for freedom as the leading motive. Those who idealise the empire mostly discard any actual analysis of the national issue, instead eulogising the unprecedented burgeoning of nations under the Soviet regime and socialism as such. These memoirs demonstrate that the liberation movements of the Baltic peoples played a very important, in some aspect even pioneering role in the annihilation of the Soviet Union, whereas the principal underlying reason was Russia’s own pursuit of sovereignty. Some derzhavniks’ writings on the Baltic issue are over- flowing with blatant fabrications and propaganda lies. However, a shift has occurred in the attitudes of the democratic wing of the Russian elite towards the Baltic states. The former allies in the anti-communist struggle are now seen as “ungrateful nationalists” discriminating against Russians with their language and citizenship policies. did manage to get accepted by the University of Washington in 1980. But today there is no way I would've made the cut, thanks to increased competition. Yet I am one of many who could justify poor grades; in my case they had to do with factors other than lack of intelligence or studious nature. Balance and timing are keys to education. Our minds work differently while engaged in various tasks, such as in chess, mathematics, paint, or writing. Each pursuit must be given ample time for the experience to be memorable, yet not eat too much time. I hear of some children who watch excessive television, or who never do any school homework, or are technical wizards yet know nothing of getting their hands dirty outside playing. Even as we must vary the curriculum for the sake of the mind, we must vary it with the ideal seasons and age levels of students.
