Essay: Living in a City

Living in a City Good or Bad? Nowadays more and more people are moving from the countryside to the cities. Why? There are many advantages of living in a city. There are more opportunities to find a job and to promote one's career. There are usually better schools and universities are founded in cities, too. On the other hand are cities pretty noisy, therefore it can create a restless environment for concentrated studying. A big advantage of living in a city is the variety of entertainment concerts, theatres, cinemas, restaurants and cafes, nightclubs and so on. However, in the countryside people can enjoy the silence and relax without paying any money. Also, in the countryside the environment is much greener and cleaner as in the cities the air is more polluted, which can damage our health. Living in a city, people have much better accessibility for things in need, like food, medications etc

currently considered a part of conventional medical practice. Alternative therapies include folk medicine, herbal medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, massage, color and music therapy and several other therapies. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese therapy that involves inserting needles into the skin at specific points of the body. These points are believed to be energy channels and related to the internal organs. Aromatherapy is the method of healing using very concentrated essential oils that are often highly aromatic and extracted from plants. There are several tehniques used in aromatherapy. Massage is the most familiar method of treatment. Essential oils are able to penetrate through skin and are taken into the body, healing and influencing inner organs. The addition of a number of drops of an essential oil to the bath water is soothing and relaxing, easing aches and pains and banishing tiredness. Feeding on food

Carbon capture and storage

To be sure of that, they are coing to make a test and drill two wells to take purified CO2, inject it into the ground and monitor the physical changes that CO2 undergoes. This technology is really new and it is unknown to people. It has not been proven yet, so people are scared and concerned about it. The biggest fear is that carbon dioxide will leak out but we don't have to be worried about that, because CO2 is everywhere around us and it is not poisonous. But still, if we have very concentrated carbon dioxide, it is hazardous and that's purpose of monitoring. Rick Russell sees no definite risk associated with the release or damage either to the surface, soils or ground water, because the type of geology they are useing, will protect the planet from this happening. For now, they have given investment sanction to two projects one in Norway in partnership with thw government there and with Statoil, and the anaother one in Australia. advantages? While it's true that Microsoft and Google eventually came to dominate their industries, it wasn't necessarily because they were last. Of course, there were operating system companies and search engines that followed for example. Instead, Microsoft and Google's market power, their ability to keep their advantage in the market over time by anticipating discontinuities has enabled them to remain top dog -- at least for now. 3. Do you expect search business to become more concentrated (i.e. dominated by fewer firms)? Is search a winner take-all business? The search business will continue to become more concentrated as Google has clearly dominated this industry and Yahoo can hope to retain market share by offering editorial content that some users may be "tricked" into viewing. Google's democratic style of search combined with its enormous scale of indexed web pages leads to results more fitting to users. This scale of indexing presents a head start for Google

The Commonwealth of Australia

The western part of the continent forms a plateau which occupies half of the continent. Australia's greatest rivers are the Murray and the Darling. Australia has several different climatic regions, from warm to subtropical and tropical. There are five big cities in Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane. Each city is the capital of the state in which it is situated. Most of the factories are concentrated in or around the big cities. They produce goods for the motor-car, machine-building, clothing and food industries. Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth are the country's main ports. Agriculture is the main occupation in Australia. Wheat and sugar are the main agricultural crops, fruit-growing is also highly developed. Australia is famous for its sheep. The great sheep-farms, called sheep-stations are found in many parts of the country.

Agriculture

Large parts of Britain, notably in Scotland and Wales, are suitable only for grazing. Overall, in the first half of the 1990s about 39 per cent of agricultural land was under pasture, another 27 per cent under rough grazing, and the remainder under crops or lying fallow. Over half of all full-time farms are devoted to dairy or beef farming, or sheep. Cattle and sheep contribute more than 40 per cent of the value of gross agricultural output. Arable farming is concentrated mainly in eastern and south-central England and in eastern Scotland. The main crops grown are wheat, barley, oilseed rape, sugar beet, potatoes and oats. There is also a significant horticultural industry producing a variety of vegetables, orchard and soft fruits, and bulbs and flowers. The high productivity of the arable sector has been achieved by the removal of hedgerows to create larger fields, by mechanization, and by the intensive use of fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides

was constructed, in Germania Superior, using a simple fence. Hadrian expanded on this idea, redesigning the German border by ordering a continuous timber palisade supported by forts behind it. Although such defences would not have held back any concerted invasion effort, they did physically mark the edge of Roman territory and went some way to providing a degree of control over who crossed the border and where. Hadrian reduced Roman military presence in the territory of the Brigantes and concentrated on building a more solid linear fortification to the north of them. This was intended to replace the Stanegate road which is generally thought to have served as the limes (the boundary of the Roman Empire) until then.

and North America. In the United States, for example, the unaffiliated are projected to grow from an estimated 16% of the total population (including children) in 2010 to 26% in 2050. As the example of the unaffiliated shows, there will be vivid geographic differences in patterns of religious growth in the coming decades. One of the main determinants of that future growth is where each group is geographically concentrated today. Religions with many adherents in developing countries – where birth rates are high, and infant mortality rates generally have been falling – are likely to grow quickly. Much of the worldwide growth of Islam and Christianity, for example, is expected to take place in sub-Saharan Africa. Today’s religiously unaffiliated population, by contrast, is heavily concentrated in places with low fertility and aging populations, such as Europe, North America, China and Japan.

Ella Fitzgerald´i eluloo kokkuvõte

During her time with Webb's band, Fitzgerald recorded with a number of other musicians, including Benny Goodman. By the time she began her solo career in the mid1940s, she was a wellrespected figure throughout the music industry. Her vibrant and energetic voice showed an exceptional range and control. Performing with "Jazz at the Philharmonic," her popularity grew beyond the music world. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, she continued to perform as a jazz musician, but concentrated primarily on popular music. Rivaled only by Frank Sinatra, her recordings of work by Cole Porter, Ira and George Gershwin, and Rogers and Hart were incredibly successful. One of the early "scat" performers, Fitzgerald found a place among the growing jazz innovators, making recordings with such greats as Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong. Her true genius, however, was not formal innovation or deeper expression, but artistic renderings of the enthusiastic songs of her time

Generally, deserts are defined as areas that receive an average annual precipitation of less than 250 mm (10 inches). Deserts cover at least one-fourth of the Earth's land surface. Desert biomes can be classified according to several characteristics. There are four major types of deserts: · Hot and dry · Semiarid · Coastal · Cold Location The four major North American deserts of hot and dry deserts are the Chihuahuan, Sonoran, Mojave and Great Basin. Savanna

practices. Introduced grazing animals can also affect soil condition through physical compaction and break-up of the soil caused by the hooves of animals and through the erosion effects caused by the removal of protective plant cover. Such effects are most likely to occur on land subjected to repeated and heavy grazing. The effects of overstocking are often worst on soils of low fertility and in low rainfall areas below 500 mm, as most soil nutrients in these areas tend to be concentrated in the surface so any movement of soil can lead to severe degradation. Alteration in soil structure and nutrient levels affects the establishment, growth and survival of plant species and in turn can lead to a change in woodland structure and composition. Tree clearing Large areas of savanna have been cleared of trees, and this clearing is continuing today. For example until recently 480,000 ha of savanna were cleared annually in Australia alone primarily to improve pasture production

In the autumn the leaves change color. During the winter months the trees lose their leaves. The animals adapt to the climate by hibernating in the winter and living off the land in the other three seasons. DesertDeserts cover about one fifth of the Earth's land surface. Deserts temperature ranges from 20 to 25° C. The extreme maximum temperature ranges from 43.5 to 49°. Hot and Dry Deserts usually have very little rainfall and concentrated rainfall in short periods between long rainless periods. Most Hot and Dry Deserts don't have very many plants. Tourism also provides a substantial part of the region's economy. Each of the nation's main economic sectors is highly developed. Although the agricultural sector is small, it takes advantage of the nation's generous natural resources. Increasingly, agriculture and fishing are concentrated in certain geographic regions of the country, mainly the west and southeast. The United States is the main market for all Canadian agricultural exports. In addition, the United States is the main destination for most of Canada's timber exports. Canada is also a major supplier of energy resources, including electricity and petroleum, to the United States. Introduction If you were asked to show on a world map the regions with the most biodiversity, your finger would probably end up pointing at the Amazon, the Congo Basin or the island of Borneo. But I chose New Guinea, an island that represents no more than 1% of the world's landmass, an array of extraordinary animals and plants have also flourished, such as tree kangaroos and birds of paradise. Close to 10% of the world's vertebrates are concentrated here, while 7% of the world's higher (vascular) plants grow on the island's productive soils. 3 Geography Papua New Guinea consists of over 600 islands and lies in the middle of the long chain of islands stretching from mainland South-East Asia. The mainland and larger islands are mountainous and rugged, divided by large fertile upland valleys. Fast- flowing rivers from the highlands descend to the coastal plains. A line of active

Aeroobsete ja Anaeroobsete bakterite metabolismi erinevused

Rühm Sõnade arv 1493 Tartu 2010 Summary Metabolism is one of the things that can be used to classify bacteria. For example aerobic and anaerobic bacteria are differentiated on the bases of their need for oxygen in the metabolism. The following report is a brief overview of bacterial metabolism, that is mostly concentrated on the diffrence between anaerobic metabolism ja aerobic metabolism. Because of the complexity of bacterial metabolism the report is mainly about the fundamental diffrences in catabolism (enzymes used and energy and products that are gained) and the defenceses that are used against oxidative stress. To write this report different literary sources, review journals and articels have been used to describe the metabolism in anaerobes and in aerobes. Sissejuhatus

Rational Use of Diagnostic Tests

Substances that have a circadian variation (e.g., cortisol) can be properly interpreted only with knowledge of the time of day the sample was drawn. During specimen collection, other principles should be remembered. Specimens should not be drawn above an intravenous line, as this may contaminate the sample with intravenous fluid. Lysis of cells during collection of a blood specimen will result in spuriously increased serum levels of substances concentrated in cells (e.g., lactate dehydrogenase and potassium). Certain test specimens may require special handling or storage (e.g., blood gas specimens). Delay in delivery of specimens to the laboratory can result in ongoing cellular metabolism and therefore spurious results for some studies (e.g., low blood glucose). Getting physical

Look right. Make a statement. Look at eyes in the back of the room. Make a statement. · Each time your eyes move, pretend to yourself that you are talking only to that individual. A number of skillful business speakers have said that with these techniques they have been able to recapture the attention of a temporarily disinterested listener. When experienced speakers spot one person in the audience whose eyes are looking down or off at another part of the room, they issue a concentrated dose of words and look directly at that person. This can actually coerce the distracted listener to reestablish eyetoeye contact with the speaker. When presenting dry, complex facts or statistics, odds are that the eyes and heads will stray. But, if you raise your voice, pound the lectern, or tell a story about real people and real events, the odds are that you'll turn heads back in your direction again. A good speaker communicates with the audience with his or her eyes.

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

first Estonian bank in 1902 and establisher of the first Estonian political party Rahvameelne Eduerakond (National Progressive Party) in 1905.1 The group in Tallinn centred round the newspaper Teataja (The Announcer), and was headed by the lawyer and politician Konstantin Päts (1874-1957). Among the members were the writers Eduard Vilde (1865-1933), Anton Hansen Tammsaare (1878-1940), and the philologist Johann Voldemar Veski (1873-1968). The newspaper concentrated on economic development, social problems and democratic reform, availability of primary and secondary education in the native language of Estonians. In Estonian literature critical realism came to the fore, exemplified in the works of Eduard Vilde, many of which have a strong social background; Külmale maale (To the Frozen North, 1896), for example, depicted the poverty and decline in village life. At the same time the mature works of the poet Juhan Liiv (1864-1912) had a great

Other leading farm products, in order of value, include milk, maize, soybeans, chickens and eggs, pigs, wheat and cotton. US farms also produce large amounts of hay, tobacco, turkeys, oranges, potatoes, tomatoes, apples, peanuts and sorghum. Farmers throughout the country rear dairy cattle for milk and other products. Much of the dairy production is concentrated in a belt that extends from Minnesota to New York. Midwestern states account for much of the nation's maize, soybeans and pig production. The nation's chief wheat-growing region stretches across the Great Plains. Most of the chickens are reared in the South. Russia Throughout the History

He collectivized agricultural lands and created large, state-run farms. Everything was under a strict control and very- well disciplined (McClenaghan, 2003). Stalin suffered bad losses in the World War II, but managed to conquer Berlin in 1945. The Soviet Union had gained more territory and was now ranked as one of the two great powers in the world, along with the United States. But life in the country was still suffering. Production was once again concentrated on heavy industry. Political freedoms were restricted even more, and another series of purges came out. The country also struggled with the Cold War ( " H i s t o r y of russia," ). After Stalin died the country did better again. Cultural life was slowly restored. In the 1970s when Brezhnev became the leader of the Soviet Union the country went through a long period of bad economy and there were many pessimistic and disappointed people. In 1985

Kubism

KUBISM Kubism on 20. sajandi kunstivool, mis hakkas kujunema Pariisis 1907. aastal Pablo Picasso ja Georges Braque'i töödes. Kubistide eelkäijaks oli Paul Cézanne. Mõiste "kubism" võttis kasutusele prantsuse kriitik Louis Vauxcelles ja see vihjab kuubist lähtuvale kujutamisele. Kriitik kirjeldas Braque'i töid 1908. aastal väljendiga bizarreries cubiques (kuubilised veidrused). Teine, hilise...

Tallinn: PhotoTour The Holy Ghost Church The Holy Ghost Church is situated in a strategic location of downtown Tallinn, in the immediate vicinity of the historic seat of the town government the Town Hall at the main square of the medieval town, the Town Hall Square. The order of the Holy Ghost, founded by Pope Innocentius III (1198-1216) and headed by Rome, concentrated in the Catholic World on the establishment of hospitals and poorhouses, known as the Holy Ghost hospices. There were already 180 such establishments in France as early as at the end of the 13th century. One hundred year later, Germany could boast with 130 hospices and their total number was approximately 900. The Tallinn Holy Ghost Church was built as a hospice church beside the Holy Ghost hospice. The hospice operated successfully for centuries, but its activity began to fade

Topic - Canada 2

In the east there are the Appalachians, Torngats and Laurentias. In the western region there are the Rocky, Coastal and Mackenzie ranges and Mount St. Elias and the Pelly Mountains in the northern regions. The vast majority of mountains in Canada lie in the western provinces of British Columbia and Alberta and the Yukon territory. Mountains can be found all over British Columbia while those in Alberta are mainly concentrated on the eastern side of the Canadian Rockies. The Saint Elias Mountains in the Yukon hold some of country's highest mountains, including the highest, Mount Logan at 5,959 metres. The Appalachian mountain range extends from Alabama in the southern United States through the Gaspe Peninsula and the Atlantic provinces, creating rolling hills indented by river valleys. It also runs through parts of southern Quebec

than the rest. As the remaining parts of the wave consecutively enter shallow water, they also experience a velocity reduction. In total this effect leads to the waves changing their direction. Eventually the decrease in water depth and hence wave velocity causes a wave crest parallel to the coastline. Refraction results in concentration effects due to deflection of the wave propagation. If the depth con- tours around the shore are known, locations, where waves will be concentrated, can be identified. Hence refraction can help wave energy developments because re- searchers can build their WECs at the most cost-effective sites. Usually the most preferable sites due to concentration from this physical effect are the headlands of a coastline, what can be seen by in the next figure [Muel2015]. 10 Concentration effects due to refraction Due to concentration effects caused by refraction a shore based wave power plant

Netherlands

In 1566 riots in which mobs destroyed images in Catholic churches spread across the country. In response, a wrathful Philip sent to the Netherlands Spanish troops commanded by Fernando lvarez de Toledo, duke of Alva. The excessively harsh policies of the duke and of the Inquisition resulted in open revolt in the Low Countries. William I, the Silent, prince of Orange, who was one of the principal noblemen of the region, led the revolt. Initially unsuccessful, the Dutch then concentrated their efforts in the north. After William's naval supporters, called the Sea Beggars, seized the Holland port of Brill (Brielle) in 1572, the rebels took control of most northern towns, which became the bases of the revolt. William tried to maintain the unity of north and south but was unable to hold the north against the brilliant campaigns of reconquest led by a new Spanish commander, Alessandro Farnese. (3)

The works spanned painting, sculpture and objects of daily use. "Happenings" (improvised semi-dramatic visual spectacles with audience participation) contributed to the Pop culture of the 1960s. The art form is based on the anonymous, mechanized and mass-produced images of advertisements, billboards, comic books and TV. Mass culture is the source of inspiration but it is neither critical nor sympathetic. Similarly to Regionalism, it stressed that which was generically American but concentrated on urban culture. He loaded his paintings with rags and tatters of cloth, reproductions, fragments of comic strips and other collage elements of discarded materials. He worked similarly to Action painters. His paintings produce the effect of confusion of sights, sounds, debris and movements. His work

Philip Larkin’s Poetry: Themes, Form, Style, Imagery and Symbolism

1.2. LARKIN STYLISTIC MAP When approaching the poems of Larkin as if were compressed stories, John Bayley emphasizes his value of epiphanies. When describes (referring to territory of poem anecdotal that is almost story) about what entirely consists his “new way of exploring that territory” (1988, 272), Bayley does not do more than reform the poetic text definition that we have handled in the present work - a text in which the information highly is concentrated and organized in the following terms: “I have you use the shorthand of poetry to block in a situation in a way that prose would have to do much dwells laboriously, and AT to much to greater length” (1988, 272). It is as if the text, when concentrating itself, aspired to the luminous outbreak that is epiphanies: “to moment that is unique, drawing to
