Today television gives people a possibility to be well informed and enjoy "civilised pleasures." The programmes are various and people have a chance to select what they want to see. Television provides great opportunities for education. There are programmes devoted to specialised subjects. With the help of TV it is possible to learn foreign languages, to know a lot of wonderful things concerning the world flora and fauna. TV teaches the ideals of democracy and political argument. Watching television can be compared with reading books. It provides an outlet for creative talents. By the beginning of the 21-th century TV became a coloured world network. Numerous programmes people can receive by satellite or cable. The choice of the channels ranges from six to twenty. These channels show programmes of various kinds from documentaries, current events and sports to programmes American films and science fiction cartoons

On one side, there are many people who think that television is just a waste of time and money. Some people spend hours in front of TV and it can be bad for your health. On the other side, It is thought that watching TV is a good way to relax. They like to be entertained after a long day and they believe that television can make you happier. I have to say that I understand both sides. I believe that television can have a negative effect on children because there is so much violence in movies and TV shows. Television is little more than a waste of time There is no doubt that the emergence of television is one of the most revolutionary events in the twentieth century. Almost everyone has a TV at home and watches it every day. Nowadays, people consider watching television as a sign of lazyness or boredom. I think that television has also some good sides and it is a little more than a waste of time. First of all, I think that TV is mainly a source of information. It allows people to get different kinds of information in an easy way. People can reach information in different languages and about different things just by clicking the remote control. We have channels that show information about other countries politics, economy or other news
preferences. So, everyone likes his own way of summertime spending. It is a great pleasure to have a rest after a whole year of hard work or study. People like to travel during their summer holidays. Some people go abroad to see new countries, some people prefer to go to the country- side to enjoy country-life far from noise and fuss of big cities. Other people like staying at home doing nothing, but watching TV and playing computer games. Some people like to spend their holidays in cities, visiting theatres, museums and going sightseeing. But a great number of people go to the seaside. As for me, I prefer to go on holiday to the seaside. I do not like crowds. My family and I always have our holiday on the coast. Sea and sunbathes, that is what we look forward to every summer. Hotels at the large seaside towns are rather expensive, so we usually go camping.
In today's society television plays a big role. People watch TV for many different reasons. They watch TV mainly for entertainment, but they also watch it to learn and to find out news. Violence is a major problem, it has affected people for ages. Although violence on television is not the greatest thing, it should be not be banned. In my opinion TV can be very educationaland it shouldn't be banned. Most people watch TV to get away from reality. Watching shows that depict a fantasy world are a lot more interesting to watch. People don't want to see things that happen to them on a regular bases. TV can be educating. For example, there are countries that you haven't visited. Some shows take you right in the middle of it and you don't even have to walk. People also watch TV to find out news. It's much faster than the paper and the picture is moving. They could speak to each other, they could send their message from one place to another by smoke signals, they used mail. Later on, they also had some newspapers. The first expansion of media was when the radio and television were invented. The second and the biggest boom started in 1960s when the first communication satellite was launched into orbit. There are 4 main media: Newspapers, TV, Radio and the Internet. Today's people take this as an ordinary thing and we don't realise that we nearly can't live without it. Media are very important for us. They give us big amount of information, so big that we can't remember all that things. They help us to understand things and if you have lots of information you are able to make your own decisions. This is connected with education and media are very good teachers. T
Especially now when there's a economic crisis everywhere and people wants to know what's happening around them. TV also helps you to relax easily. It is a lot of fun to watch TV and have a beer with your friends. TV also helps to take up a new topic to talk about. Some TV programmes are very educating and help students with their school work. My favorite TV programmes are political talkshows. They help me to be more critical to provocations. But watching TV all day long is not healthy. It can really affect your eyes. The most annoying thing about television is that the TV companies show more commercials than programmes. Also there is too much violence and sexuality on TV. In my opinion this only shows that there aren't much quality programmes because manufacturers just want to make cheap money. For ending there is no good TV or bad TV. Television has its own good and bad sides like
entertainment. Most people get a large proportion of their news from TV news broadcasts. Television also broadcasts programmes that help explain a story or subject.Such programmes include documentaries and interview programmes. Television allows one to follow the much more real science and politics and offers an endless series of programmes which are both instructive and stimulating. The most distant countries and the strangest costumes are brought right into the sitting-room. Watching TV is almost certainly the biggest leisure pastime in Britain. At the moment there are five main national channels : BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel Four and Channel Five.
