Advantages and disadvantages of television Television is one of the greatest achievements of the 20-th century. It is the most popular part of mass media. Today every family has a TV-set. TV has changed much since the time of its invention and so has its role. There have been numerous debates concerning advantages and disadvantages of television. When TV first appeared its main purpose was to give official information to people. It was supported by the government. Now television plays a big role in every civilised society. Today television gives people a possibility to be well informed and enjoy "civilised pleasures." The programmes are various and people have a chance to select what they want to see. Television provides great opportunities for education. There are programmes devoted to specialised subjects. With the help of TV it is possible to learn foreign languages, to know a lot of wonderful things concerning the world flora and fauna. TV teac

Watching television can give us many positives things like news, entertainment and knowledge but it can by also dangerous. I watch very rarely television, generally only eating my breakfast or sapper. On one side, there are many people who think that television is just a waste of time and money. Some people spend hours in front of TV and it can be bad for your health. On the other side, It is thought that watching TV is a good way to relax. They like to be entertained after a long day and they believe that television can make you happier. I have to say that I understand both sides. I believe that television can have a negative effect on children because there is so much violence in movies and TV shows. Also watching TV can make you lazy. It's physically, mentally, and emotionally lazy. It requires no physical, mental, or emotional participation It's an addictive excuse that keeps people from leaving the house and communicating with real people. British Cuisine Some people criticize English food. They say it's unimaginable, boring, tasteless, it's chips with everything and totally overcooked vegetables. The basic ingredients, when fresh, are so full of flavour that British haven't had to invent sauces to disguise their natural taste. What can compare with fresh pees or new potatoes just boiled and served with butter? Why drown spring lamb in wine or cream and spices, when with just one or two herbs it is absolutely delicious? Mass Media Mass media is a term used to describe those means of communication which can reach large or mass audiences. The most important are probably Television, Radio, the Press and the Internet. Britain and America invented a lot of the technology used by the various modern communications media. In 1829, the typewriter was invented in America. In 1837, the telegraph was invented in Britain. In 18 76, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in America. This made it possible to talk to people thousands of miles away. The telephone is a telecommunications device, which is used to transmit and receive sound. It's one of the most common household appliances in the world today. The English-speaking peoples have always allowed more freedom of speech and of the press than most other countries. This gave them an advantage from the start in communications. Television is little more than a waste of time There is no doubt that the emergence of television is one of the most revolutionary events in the twentieth century. Almost everyone has a TV at home and watches it every day. Nowadays, people consider watching television as a sign of lazyness or boredom. I think that television has also some good sides and it is a little more than a waste of time. First of all, I think that TV is mainly a source of information. It allows people to get different kinds of information in an easy way. People can reach information in different languages and about different things just by clicking the remote control. We have channels that show information about other countries politics, economy or other news. In that way we can stay informed with the events that are happening from all over the world. They could speak to each other, they could send their message from one place to another by smoke signals, they used mail. Later on, they also had some newspapers. The first expansion of media was when the radio and television were invented. The second and the biggest boom started in 1960s when the first communication satellite was launched into orbit. There are 4 main media: Newspapers, TV, Radio and the Internet. Today's people take this as an ordinary thing and we don't realise that we nearly can't live without it. Media are very important for us. They give us big amount of information, so big that we can't remember all that things. They help us to understand things and if you have lots of information you are able to make your own decisions. This is connected with education and media are very good teachers. T
Violence on television. In today's society television plays a big role. People watch TV for many different reasons. They watch TV mainly for entertainment, but they also watch it to learn and to find out news. Violence is a major problem, it has affected people for ages. Although violence on television is not the greatest thing, it should be not be banned. In my opinion TV can be very educationaland it shouldn't be banned. Most people watch TV to get away from reality. Watching shows that depict a fantasy world are a lot more interesting to watch. People don't want to see things that happen to them on a regular bases. TV can be educating. For example, there are countries that you haven't visited. Some shows take you right in the middle of it and you don't even have to walk. People also watch TV to find out news.
