Invention of the Airplane

Why did they invent airplane? The actual inspiration came from Otto Lilienthal who was a German aeronautical engineer. The most evident defect in these hang gliders was that the hand glider could veer out of control at any time, as it had no proper mechanism to support it causing a safety concern. The Wright Brothers tried to invent such a machine that could fully mask all the defects of hang gliders. The first successful flying experience of the airplane lasted a mere 59 seconds. It reached a maximum height of 120 feet whilst covering a distance of 852 feet. Comparison of diesel and petrol engine

faster. The efficiency of the diesel cycle is higher than the gasoline cycle because of higher compression ratio, and because the temperature of combustion in a diesel engine is much higher. The higher temperature is outweighed by the increased heat output at that same temperature. A gasoline engine cannot have the same compression ratio as a diesel engine, because fuel and air are mixed before they reach the cylinder, and they would explode before the piston reached the correct firing position, causing the engine to "knock" and not exploit the most efficient use of energy. It is true then that a diesel engine is more cycle efficient.

English story "Fatal Walk"

about but then I heard a loud and clear shot and I saw the businessman falling down to the ground. I yelled quietly and ran away because I understood that the man saw me watching him. I ran constantly and all the time had on the brain that I was in terrible danger. I hated that I had left my mobile phone to home to be in privacy, I needed it. I was tired to death of running. I was watching back all the time and eventually I didn't see him anymore but I kept running. When I reached home I thought that I was safe but I didn't dare to switch on lights. I let the street lighting shine in. I found my mobile but of course it was discharged, like always, when I needed it. Then I heard a horrifying knocking on the door. He had followed me. I didn't find anywhere to hide myself, because my home was almost like a glasshouse, windows everywhere. And I already saw the man prowling behind a window. He looked through the window and saw me. I ran to kitchen and took a knife

When we came to cottage, we noticed that house was dark, however, we ran into the house ... the parents were not there. We had a panic, but we decided to go up to the second floor .Going up the stairs I step on something,I raised it up, it was our mother's bloody finger. When I reached up,I noticed that my sister was missing. I was alone and I didn't know what to do. I went back to find my family. There was no one, until suddenly I felt something moving behind me. At the next moment I felt breath on my neck. He said that I should not worry about your sister because I killed her and your parents, and now it's you turn. Suddenly I found myself in bed sweaty, mom asking me if I would like to do breakfast.

In 1951 he published a paper concerning the triple-alpha process, describing the burning of helium-4 into carbon-12 in the cores of red giant stars. However, this achievement is often overlooked because Edwin Salpeter's paper on the same subject had already been published by the time Öpik's paper reached Britain and the United States.[3] In 1972, Öpik published a very important piece on the origin of the Moon by capture in the Irish Astronomical Journal. He included breakup and re-assembly of rings into which the Moon was broken. 6. The asteroid 2099 Öpik is named in his honour. The crater Öpik on the Martian moon Phobos is also named after him. 1. Summary - IT in motorsport

Driver can adjust almost everything of his car with the wheel. Usually F1 wheels have also LED screens which can display as many as 100 pages of info and data. Third topic I talked about was simulators. Modern road circuit simulators can be very similar to real life experience. For example most of the testing in F1 are made with simulators because it is much cheaper and also testing kilometres and time is limited. But the rally simulator have not yet reached that kind of level. They are similar but doesn’t actually simulate the real life. I think the cause of this is that it’s much harder to simulate all kind of different road surfaces like snow or gravel etc and also it’s harder to drive and so it has less market. Last topic I talked about was about video analysis. Modern on-board cameras are very small and they record high definition video. Videos are important to analyse your driving technique.

Heartless

Heartless It was one late evening when a little blond girl, aged between 7-8, ran quietly across the Ninth Avenue and entered one of the old houses that were lining the road. Inside she went smoothly though the corridors and soon reached a wooden door. After knocking twice a voice from inside called "Enter!" and the child went in. The room was filled with the smoke of numberless cigarettes. The girl, however, made no emotion and came closer to the old and ugly man sitting behind the table. "I wasn't lucky today, Grandpa," whispered the child and her light blue eyes filled with tears as she talked. The man smoked soundlessly, not even glancing at the girl. "But I'll go again, tomorrow, and bring you twice the money! I promise

Report: Canada

Yukon, and Nunavut). Formally considered a constitutional monarchy, Canada is governed by its own House of Commons. While the governor-general is officially the representative of Queen Elizabeth II, in reality the governor-general acts only on the advice of the Canadian prime minister. History: The first inhabitants of Canada were native Indian peoples, primarily the Inuit (Eskimo). The Norse explorer Leif Eriksson probably reached the shores of Canada (Labrador or Nova Scotia) in 1000, but the history of the white man in the country actually began in 1497, when John Cabot, an Italian in the service of Henry VII of England, reached Newfoundland or Nova Scotia. Canada was taken for France in 1534 by Jacques Cartier. The actual settlement of New France, as it was then called, began in 1604 at Port Royal in what is now Nova Scotia; in 1608, Quebec was founded

The farmer knelt down at the boy's side and said, "Son, you don't want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like these other dogs would." With that the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his trousers. Me and languages. To begin with, language is a congrecation of thoughts and feelings through a system of signals, such as voice sounds, gestures, or written symbols. Communication or language is a process every child learns from birth and during our life we will usually learn many different languages. Due to the fact that both of my parents are Estonians , my mother tongue is Estonian, therefore I can speak and write in it very fluently. I also prefer read the books in Estonian. I know that some people like to do it in some other languages, in English for instance. I am really amused by the Estonian literature. I like to read books and stories from Andrus Kivirähk and F.R. Kreutzwald. English is one of the world most spoken language. You can hear it everywhere, no matter which part of the world are you in. There were also everything wrong. The trees were black and their leaves were brown and white, instead of green. I wasn’t able to understand anything. I saw things that could not be possible and thing that I had never seen before. I got out of the woods. I reached the town gates. They were locked. I was very confused and the best idea that came to my head was to climb over the gate. And so I did. I got safely to the other side of the gate. All of the villagers were outside. There was also my friend in front of the restaurant. Something was wrong with him too. He was scared and frightened. His hands were sweating and he had pale look on his face, like he had seen something creepy. „What’s going on? Why’s everyone outside

Secondly, the Victorian era is known for the enlargement of the Empire, revolutions in industry, science, education and Queen Victoria was the symbol for this period. During Queen Victoria’s reign the British Empire’s expansion reached it’s peak. Britain had large colonies on every continent, Queen Victoria also held the title of „Empress of India“. Essay about England

Was the British Empire a good thing that enlarged the world creating possibilities for everyone or was it just a way for some to gain power and wealth? How is the modern-day Commonwealth different? The British Empire used to be one of the largest and wealthiest empires in the world. Its prosperity started at the early 1600s and reached its high peak at the end of the World War I. The Empire faded into the Commonwealth at the end of 1930s as one colony after another gained its independence. After studying the topic I would say that it cannot be said whether the British Empire was a very good or a very bad thing. Of course any kind of oppression should not be approved of and actually the Empire and native British forced on their way of life and culture to the colonies. On the other hand the Empire also helped its subjects to

My ideal home

There are self-made sofa cushions on the couch and a rug made out of recycled old clothes. Dining room and the kitchen are separated from the living room with a wall. Kitchen is fully-equipped and there you can find everything you need. A big table, where the family gathers in the evenings, is in the dining room. As I love fire, you can find a fireplace and a lots of candles, which make me feel warm inside in the cold winter nights. Going up the stairs, we have reached the second floor, where are bedrooms, a guest room, two bathrooms and a toilet. Walking for meetings - analysis of a Nilofer Merchant presentation

lower back as in the beginning of the presentation. This was used to make people more lively and to let them know that the presentation is about to end. Also she encouraged the audience to move more and told that her life quality has increased greatly due to moving and having meetings while walking. In addition, she used a rhyme to make sure that her message is said out loud and clear - “walk and talk, walk and talk”. I think she reached the goal with her rhyme and whole presentation. At least I started to think differently after listening to her presentation.

Americans. The first people who arrived in the Americas were the Native Americans. Many of them lived in small groups of about 20-50 people. Most of them were very peaceful people, who lived by hunting and collecting food. Other Native Americans lived in small villages, where they had farms. There are about two million Native Americans in the territory of the United States. They used to be called Indians because, when Christopher Columbus arrived in America, he thought he had reached India. The United States is made up of 50 States. Capital cities in America are less important than in Europe. They are created to serve limited political functions, not to be the center of social life. New York is the biggest city in America, with seven million people . About 40% of the population is foreign-born. Although it's not the capital it has always been the cultural centre of the whole country. New York is also famous for its skyscrapers. The heart of New York is Manhattan Island

Pessimism vs optimism

of technology only a small increase in yields would occur. Criticisms to the theory •Too simplistic •Ignores the fact that only the poor go hungry (marxist viewpoint) and that it purely results from the poor distribution of resources. •Malthus did not see the changes in farming technology. e.g. 10,000 sq meters (one hectare) or the size of a football pitch can feed 1000 people for a year (or enough tom feed the world) This is backed up by the fact that in 1992 EU surpluses reached 26 million tonnes. Task: Brainstorm the new technological innovations An OPTIMISTIC approach (Alternative theory)  Ester Boserup (1965) suggested that an increase in population would stimulate technologists to increase food production.  It followed that a rise in population will increase demand for food and therefore act as an incentive to modify technology to produce more food. In other words, “Necessity is the mother of invention”

Kanada

The national animal is the beaver and it is because the fur trade. Maple syrup is very important for Canadians also. Hockey is the official winter sport. Canada's official colours are red and white. The colours appear on the flag. History. Almost a thousand years ago men from Norway sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and "discovered" America about 4 centuries before Columbus. In 985 AD Vikings who wanted to go to Greenland from Iceland were blown off their course and they reached Canada. It is thought that they reached Labrador. They saw forested areas there and further exploration were encouraged by this discovery because the Norse colonists from Greenland lacked lumber which was found in Canada. Five hundred years later an Italian John Cabot sailed from England to the shores of Canada in 1497. He met no living man there and soon returned to England. About 40 years later, Jacques Cartier, a French explorer, made two voyages from France

Water Purification

Water purification is not a very one-sided process; the purification process contains many steps. The steps that need to be progressed depend on the kind of impurities that are found in the water. This can differ very much for different types of water. In which ways is polluted water treated? Settling Before the purification process begins some contaminants, such as oil, can be settled in a settling tank. They can then be removed easily, after they have reached the bottom of the tank. Removal of dangerous microorganisms Often polluted water has to be freed from microorganisms. The water is than disinfected, usually by means of chlorination. Removal of dissolved solids Microrganisms are not only a threat to water; they can also be an advantage when it comes to water purification processes. They can convert harmful contaminants to harmless substances. This biological purification process usually takes a long time and it is only used for water that is

Report on Exercises 2 - Diodes

UL1 UL2 Figure 21. Voltage traces Conclusion The Zener diode does not conduct while the function generators voltage is on the negative ide, only small leakage exists which is produced by the voltage drop. When the function generators voltage is on the positive side, the Zener diode conducts but only to the point where its breakdown voltage is reached. In the limiter circuit, the Zener diode limits the voltage according to the assigned reference breakdown voltage. In both directions the voltage is 0,5 volts bigger caused by the voltage drop on the diodes.

reason. Do you remember Sir Thom of the Minquettes'? That fine young man with fascinating blue eyes... Oh, my sweet Mary, you will never guess what happened yesterday! It was about seven o'clock in the evening when Lillian called me out for a walk you know I can't say `no' to my little sis. Anyway we went to the forest near the Swan Lake and, believe it or not, got lost! Awful! I was so scared... We walked and walked, not even knowing the direction we were heading to, until we reached a huge mansion. And the garden around it was so extraordinary... That is something you just must see! But neither the trees nor flowers could be as wonderful as the owner himself! Sir Thom treated us tea and sandwiches, not forgetting to show us way back to the village. He was so kind, don't you think? In the end, when we had nearly reached our home, he suddenly stopped and called us to a ball! Can you imagine?! A ball with Sir Thom! What an honour... I bet Emily Woodcut will be envious

Straitland

The Island of Muhu is the third largest in Estonia. A traditional fishing and farming lifestyle still predominates. There are many tourist packages for families and just travelers which offer activities for different tastes and also accommodation with food in reasonable prices. There is no need to travel long distances abroad, because one can enjoy hiking, cycling, canoeing and swimming just in the area of Straitland. All the main sightseeings can be easily reached by buses, electric trains and ferries. Culture Life The identity of every city is created by its symbols, which are made up of historical buildings, monuments, holy places, people and traditions. And so it is with Pärnu. The Hansa Days, which have become a tradition and will be crowned by the International Hansa Days to be organized by Pärnu in 2010, brings artists onto the streets. The main centers for cultural activities are Enda Theatre, built in the 1960s, which greets visitors

Wales

The first recorded information about people in Wales is when Romans came in the 48AD. At that time people talked in Celtic language, which later on was evolved to Welsh. When Kingdom of Mercia invaded England it the was the most powerful from 650800. The Welsh people didn't want to surrender so they kept fighting back but they sadly lost their land to this powerful new kingdom. In an effort to defend their new territory in 784 King of Mercia built an earthwork barrier, known as Wat's Dyke. It reached from sea to sea. Wat's Dyke was the first permanent boundary between the Welsh and English people. In England the period from 800-1000 AD is often called the late Anglo-Saxon period. Anglo- Saxon kingdoms liked nationalism. Numerous attempts were made throughout this period to create, if not a nation of Wales, then at least larger and more powerful kingdoms within Wales. One of the early leaders of these tentative movements toward nationalism was Rhodri ap

for the faint of heart. Bodies bang, the ball is as hard as a baseball, and the sticks are made of solid ash. flag and religion The Irish tricolor flag was created in 1848, it was designed to reflect the country's political realities. Different sources tell different stories but here are 2 of them. Orange stands for Irish Protestants, green for Irish Catholics and the white stripe for the hope that peace might eventually be reached between them. Another story tells that the green stands for the ancient Irish ancestry , orange stands for the new elements that joined them later in the history and white symbolizes the union of all in brotherhood and common nationality. The statistics say that about 90 % of the Republic's populace is Roman Catholic, 3% identify themselves as Protestants, and the remainder claim no religious beliefs, or belong to the small communities of believers such as Muslims, Jews and Jehovah's Witnesses

Sisters

Then a scream broke into the night. Creasha knew this wasn't Suzan since they were still hugging, no, it was another female whom voice was very familiar. Suzan was the first one to recognize it. "Mother..."she whispered and a soundless tear crossed her cheek. Creasha told her to wait here, but sister hold to her too strongly to let go now. "Okay, come with me then, but be quiet! You're not the only one who feels like crying!" Suzan nodded and together they moved quickly forwards. Soon they reached the main entrance. The door was open, but no one seemed to be around. "What now? Shall we enter or run away?" "They got our parents...and probably Danny too..." "But Su, they didn't get us, remember?" "Then we must do them as much harm as we can, they'll catch us sooner or later!" "Leave it to me then! I'm an expert in getting in trouble!" The red-haired girl smiled and wished her sister good luck. Then she hid under the bushes that were quite far away from the house.
