Animals, plants, agriculture Animals The moose ranges throughout the northern US. In the eastern forests live elks, black bears, deer, foxes, raccoons, skunks and squirrels. Along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico live large and more colorful birds such as pelicans and flamingos. Alligators can also be found there. Bison (buffalo) exists now only in protected areas
coyotes, grizzly bears and wolves. The most famous geyser is called Old Faithful. More than three million people visit Yellowstone every year. Another big park is Big Bend. It is one of the newest and wildest national parks in this country. This national park is situated in Texas, on the Mexican border. Here the Rio Grande makes a great U-shape bend, which has given the park its name. The landscape here is very varied. And the nature is varied too. After rains desert plants with beautiful flowers of all sizes grow everywhere. The park is also rich in different kinds of birds. The king of the animals in the Big Bend is the mountain lion or the Texas "panther". He lives off the deer and wild donkeys that come to the springs for water. The USA In my essay I am going to talk about the United States of America. The USA was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492. It is situated between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. It is the world's fourth largest country by size (after Russia, Canada and China) and the third by population (after China and India). The United States of America Geography The United States of America is situated in the central part of the North American continent. Its western coast is washed by the Pacific Ocean, and its eastern coast by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. It borders on Canada in the north and on Mexico in the South. The U.S.A. consists of 51 states and the District of Columbia. The state of Alaska is separated from the rest of the U.S.A. by Canada. Hawaii, which became the fiftieth state in 1959, is in the Pacific Ocean, halfway between the continents of America and Asia. The area of the United States of America is over nine million square kilometres. The continental part of the U.S.A. consists of two highland regions and two lowland regions. The highland regions are the Appalachian Mountains in the east and the Cordilleras in the west. There are two mountain ranges in the continental United States: the Appalachians in the east and the Rockies in the west. In the very middle of the continent is the Mississippi river.
