How to write a manual

How to Write a Manual Know the material--and the product--inside out. Make certain you understand the procedure completely--from both a practical and a theoretical standpoint. Ensure that you can successfully carry out the process you'll be describing by going through the necessary steps yourself repeatedly until you are convinced that you know how to complete them properly and explain them clearly. 2 Assume that your reader knows nothing at all about the process you'll be describing when you write your manual. This will remind you to take nothing for granted as you explain how to complete the procedure and will prevent you from leaving gaps in your explanation that your reader will find frustrating. 3 Use diagrams to clarify information that would be difficult to convey accurately in words. Also use them for information that is so complex as to be confusing to the reader without a

CULTURAL TOURISM 2011 MEDIA

PLAN ANALYSIS Analüüs turundusest alustest Õpetaja: Kristi Leinus Tallinn 2012 CULTURAL TOURISM 2011 Media & Marketing plan analysis. The first thing I came to notice while reading the document was that the plan provides no summary, neither in the beginning nor in the end and lacks any clearly-defined structure that would allow the reader to analyze the ideas presented in the plan in a comfortable manner by gradually proceeding from section to section. A more thorough step by step analysis is provided below: 1. Missing Executive Summary The analyzed marketing plan lacks any sort comprehensive summary that would clearly outline the nature of the project. E-book – the book of the future

conventional books. An e-reader can potentially contain thousands of e-books, limited only by its memory capacity. Depending on the device e-book may be readable in low light or even in total darkness. For elderly readers or for people with visual problems e-books have a remarkable advantage as the fonts can be enlarged, it I seven possible to use Text-to speech software to read the text. One great thing is the possibility to search for key terms. While an e-book reader costs much more than one book, the electronic texts are generally cheaper. Moreover, a great share of books are available free of charge. For example, all fiction from before the year 1900 is in the public domain. Compared to printed publishing, it is cheaper and easier for authors to self-publish e-books. An e-book can be purchased, downloaded, and used immediately, whereas when one buys a book one has to go to a bookshop, or wait for a delivery. Environmental Concerns

What I Think of Homereading

I think that homereading is necessary for those who want to learn English. Everyone should read books if they have free time. Reading is one of the best things to do in your free time. It is very exciting to read a good book. There are many categories of books: fantasy, romantic, fiction, nonfiction, action, adventure, historical, children's and teen's books, biography, educating books, cooking books. The genre of the book depends what the reader likes to read about. I think that everyone can find something interesting for themselves, they just need to search. These days it is easy to find books, the library is full of books and there are many webpages where reader can read e-books online. Reading is not only fun and entertaining but it also improves your writing skill. From books we can learn many new words and write better essays in school. It really improves language and I don't mean foreign language but also native language

How to write a Design Report

The first section describes the problem that was being solved and provides the background to the design. The second section describes the design and the third section evaluates how well the design worked by comparing its performance to the design requirements. The report starts with a short executive summary that contains a synopsis of the three sections. The body of the report is relatively short. Appendices to the report contain supporting information with the details needed by a reader who wishes to fully understand the design. While this document describes the general content and organization of a design report, some of the specifics (section headings, length, and format) may be determined by your project client. Before You Begin Some basics that you need to understand before starting to write the report. Definition: A design report documents the solution to a unique problem. Purpose: To communicate the solution to a problem.

The Book I Advice to Read and Why

The Book I Advice to Read and Why. I've recently read a book which has made a very deep impression on me. It is called The Fifth Mountain and it gets really unforgettable reading. The author of the book is Paulo Coelho. He is my favourite writer, so I can recommend almost all his books I read. His plots always mislead the reader and keep him in suspense. 61 The Fifth Mountain is a work inspired by a biblical passage which seeks to reconcile all contradictions of the soul, and which intends to be an excellent advisor in times of confusion and reflection. 95 The story of the prophet Elijah is an invaluable lesson of hope for the contemporary man. To what point can we predict our own destiny? This is the question that hangs in the air over The Fifth Mountain

fighters. In the support group she meets an extraordinarily handsome boy Augustus, who, full of metaphores and mystery, catches Hazel’s attention immediately. As the plot evolves, these two spectacularily appalling figures get close and share unique experiences. Together they help out a friend dealing with the loss of a girlfriend, travel to the Netherlands to meet Hazel’s favourite author and much more. Unlike any other teenage-cliche movie it has a tragic, tearful ending, that makes a reader realize and value the existance of her or his own loved ones in life. What author John Green has managed to achieve is the realistic description of heroic cancer figthers with all the ups and downs of a teenage person. The book is full of witty humor, heartbreaking happenings, making a reader laugh, cry and smile again within only 313 pages. I thoroughly recommend this book!

The rewiev of Twilight

The Review Twilight is the story of Edward and Bella's romance. Forget any vampire romance you have read before, Twilight is so unique it is almost like it's in its own genre. The book is marketed at Young Adult readers but it has the ability to cross age barriers and will satisfy both teenagers and adults alike. The story is told in first person from the perspective of Bella, so the reader only ever know what she knows, making Edward and his family a mystery that is slowly unravelled through out the book. Even by the end of the book I was still thirsting for more of the Cullen family back story - hopefully their characters might be developed further in future books. Bella herself is a well written and realistic character, shy and lacking in confidence, her sarcastic inner voice narrates the story for the reader. Twilight is simply and yet beautifully written

The themes dealt with in a book are simply not relevant.

They have their confines and mainly concentrate on descriptions and less on the story. But young people want their own picture from the book, they don't need every detail described. When we think more about the themes disussed in obligatory books, then they are also hold in check. Here is the second problem, youngsters can't relate to those topics. For example, they are only describing a feeling, like love, but don't give a real situation, so that the reader can feel as a part of the story. A princess story isn't a real one. So I don't think that the themes discussed in obligatiry books are irrelevant. But what about books of this centuary? They describe also every detail but from a real aspect. They don't have fairytails, because that doesen't sell. And maybe it is right. You can relate more to things that are in every day life. Even drugs and violence. Books are important because they teach. Like theater

Report

Report A report is based on facts/data etc. The writer knows more than the reader. The reader needs the information. A report should be clear and easy to follow. The person who reads it should find the information quickly. THINK: why you are writing the report, why the reader needs your report and what she might be interested in. Think about the best way to present the facts. If it’s a report of events (e.g. a traffic accident), describe them in chronological order. It should NOT be written like a letter! NO salutation/sign-off. Impersonal style (PASSIVE!), unless you make suggestions or give personal opinion – then you can use “I”. Formal language –no contractions, slang, etc. You can use the following format at the beginning of the report: To:

The Death of the Author

own it; for Mallarme, as for us, it is language which speaks, not the author: to write is to reach, through a preexisting impersonality — never to be confused with the castrating objectivity of the realistic novelist — that point where language alone acts, “performs,” and not “oneself”: Mallarme’s entire poetics consists in suppressing the author for the sake of the writing (which is, as we shall see, to restore the status of the reader.) Valery, encumbered with a psychology of the Self, greatly edulcorated Mallarme’s theory, but, turning in a preference for classicism to the lessons of rhetoric, he unceasingly questio- ned and mocked the Author, emphasized the linguistic and almost “chance” nature of his activity, and throughout his prose works championed the essentially verbal condition of literature, in the face of which any recourse to the writer’s inferiority seemed to him pure superstition

Introduction Paragraph What is an introduction paragraph? The introduction paragraph is the first paragraph of your essay. What does it do? It introduces the main idea of your essay. A good opening paragraph captures the interest of your reader and tells why your topic is important. How do I write one? 1. Write the thesis statement. The main idea of the essay is stated in a single sentence called the thesis statement. You must limit your entire essay to the topic you have introduced in your thesis statement. 2. Provide some background information about your topic. You can use interesting facts, quotations, or definitions of important terms you will use later in the essay.

Philip Larkin’s Poetry: Themes, Form, Style, Imagery and Symbolism

between literary criticism and fiction. It offers four readings of Larkin’s “Deceptions” by four fictitious characters in the same university department: a formalist, a Marxist, a feminist and a post-structuralist critic. Holderness’s parodistic readings have a central position in the volume for precisely the same reason as Larkin’s “Posterity” does in High Windows. In the first place, the poem entitles the reader to see Larkin through the eyes of Jake Balokowsky, his fictitious biographer, but Larkin also ridicules this young cosmopolitan scholar. Holderness’s Cleanth, Raymond, Kate, and Colin are both serious and ludicrous. Holderness has created four possible scholars, and he does not say that any of them are wrong. He laughs at them, but does not reject their readings. In a Larkinesque manner, he wears the masks of four critics to demonstrate the diversity of Larkin criticism.

Book report/review "The Snow Child"

She was very naive in a way. Jack, on the other hand, was a very masculine type. He was a hunter and had a very strong character. He was responsible for the survival. They both completed each other. In my opinion the book was very enchanting and beautiful. The way the author describes Alaska, is very magical, because she has lived there her whole life. When I was reading the book I felt like I had been to Alaska, the writer really knows how to use the right adjectives to make the reader feel the cold and dark Alaskan winter. In my view, the book achieved its goal perfectly. The author knew exactly what kind of a message she wanted to bring to the reader and I believe that she succeeded. One specific point, which left me a bit confused was Fauna, the snow girl. I still can not understand how and why she woke up and became a real person. I guess this is the fact, which makes this book special, but I would have liked the book more if the

above the ugliness of sin and journey towards their goal as they catch sight of the stars shining in the heavens. Their journey begins on Good Friday and they emerge from Hell on the day of Resurrection, Easter Sunday on the underside of the world, in the hemisphere of water at the foot of Mount Purgatory. Dante's vision expresses his personal experience, through images to convey his interpretation of the nature of human existence. He writes in the first person so the reader can identify and deeply understand the truths he wished to share about the meaning of life and man's relationship with the Creator. Dante is remembered as a great thinker and one of the most learned writers of all time. Many scholars consider his epic poem The Divine Comedy consisting of Inferno, Paradiso, and Purgatorio, among the finest works of all literature. Critics have praised it not only as magnificent poetry, but also for its wisdom and scholarly learning.

published in 1960. The books events take place in 1880’s Alabama. I really liked the book and I understand why it’s important for people- especially young people like high-schoolers to read this book. The book gives good insight on why we still have problems with racism around us and how much worse it was back in the 19th and 20th century. It has a good mixture of educational and historical topics and humour. Although many things are told the reader through metaphors, the meaning of the metaphor is often explained, as the book is told through a kid’s point of view. I would recommend this book to high schoolers, as it explains important topics that are still an issue to this day and it may be an eye- opening book to some people.

Freeborn (1960:99) comments that radicalism/nihilism (Turgenev used radicalism) aimed to "to present as objectively as possible the ideological and class antagonisms existing between the fathers and the sons in that crucial year on 1859 when the two wings of the intelligentsia were in open disagreement". 1 From the beginning of the novel, Turgenev allows the reader to unveil the similarities and differences between the generations by portraying their interactions, moods, thoughts and eby their manners of speaking. At the beginning, as Nikolai is waiting for his son, some of the qualities of the fathers' generation are displayed. The lengthy description of Nikolai's bibliography associates him with the gentry. Identiteedivargus

[6] Stealing personal items Identity thieves can also obtain your personal information by stealing your wallet or purse.[4] Skimming Skimming is the act of using a skimmer to illegally collect data from the magnetic stripe of a credit, debit or ATM card. This information, copied onto another blank card's magnetic stripe, is then used by an identity thief to make purchases or withdraw cash in the name of the actual account holder. Skimming works by replacing a card reader like an ATM with a camouflaged counterfeit card reader. The counterfeit reader records all of the data on a credit, debit or ATM card as it passes through the skimmer.[7] Man-in-the-middle-attack This type of theft involves criminally intercepting communication between two parties and recording the information without the two parties ever knowing about it. The criminal then uses this information to access accounts and possibly steal the user's identity.[4] Phishing

business. Swift emphasizes this by employing several phrases such as "breeder" and compares humans to livestock, because the only purpose they have is to bear children and sell them as a "delicacy" for the food market. This is a great example of a social satire, reflecting one of the most major human vices greed, that leads people to commit a terrible kind of actions, just to get a profit. A considerate and thoughtful reader, who has begun to read the work, could pay his attention to the other sarcastic moment, which appears in the discrepancy of the title with its actual content. Few people dare to call a proposal "modest", when it means that helpless and innocent children will "contribute to the feeding, and partly to the clothing of many thousands" in order to improve the economic situation of Ireland as well as the standards of living (Swift, 53). for him. Time and again, through conversations with men like the priest, Ettore Moretti, and Gino, Henry distances himself from such abstract notions as faith, honor, and patriotism. Concepts such as these mean nothing to him beside such concrete facts of war as the names of the cities in which he has fought and the numbers of decimated streets. Against this bleak backdrop, Henry's reaction to Catherine Barkley is rather astonishing. The reader understands why Henry responds to the game that Catherine proposes--why he pledges his love to a woman he barely knows: like Rinaldi, he hopes for a night's simple pleasures. But an active sex drive does not explain why Henry returns to Catherine--why he continues to swear his love even after Catherine insists that he stop playing. In his fondness for Catherine, Henry reveals a vulnerability usually hidden by his stoicism and masculinity. The quality of the language that Henry uses to describe

Reading a quality or a popular newspaper

This kind of papers contain inportant issues and reflect different political views. Also quality papers have financial and sports news. But from popular papers contain more sensational stories and scandals. Secondly, quite big difference is in the price and the looks between those two papers. Quality papers are printed on large pages, have an undramatic layout and very simple desing. Althoush they look serious their price is not very low. But on the other hand tabloids aim to excite the reader visually, using techniques such as very large headlines and photos. Those newspapers are more cheaper than quality papers. Accordingly, the readerships of those two different newspapers depend on the aforementioned different characteristics. For example, tabloids are more frequently bought by older and younger generations, because those people might find serious news boring, but on the other hand popular papers are attracting them with large headlines and photos. Also, if you have a smartphone or a laptop you will always have your books with you, just in case you want to read. An e-book is also more environmental friendly. But an e-book has also some disadvantages. For example, you have your laptop or smartphone battery life to worry about and you can catch some nasty software bugs in the reader and cause it to freeze up. To sum up, everyone has their favorite ways to read a book and I think that both will survive because there will always be people who prefer a traditional paper book to an e-book and also people who prefer an e-book to a traditional paper book.

Its better to have any religion then to be atheist

its better to have any religion then to be atheist. We live in the 21th century where democracy and freedom of different kinds dominate in most parts of the world. Freedom of worship is not an exception, therefore people can believe or not believe in anything they want. According to this many people decided not to have any religion at all and called themselves ,,atheists". These people believe in their own physical and moral forces only, but now and here i will try to persuade the reader that having a God or some deity is better than to be godless. First reason, why it is better to be a religous person than atheist, is your spiritual and mental safety because if you belive in God , you will always have someone to rely on even in the worst situations, and you will never give up as you would probably do, if you stayed against the misery alone, on your own. Secondly, i would like to point out that with having a God to believe in your everyday life

taseme exceptionit.

Are you experienced- book review

other backpackers journey. The book is entertaining though it’s full of problems that the 3 rd world has and it highlights them in almost unnoticeable ways. “Are you experienced “ draws attention to food and water problems that are common in India. There were many detailed descriptions of diseases and parasites, they were rather disgusting. Even the thought of the situation where locals can’t drink tap water or they even don’t have running water in house makes reader as me aware of the issues and makes me appreciate what I have. The issues raised in the book were taken from life and most of them are part of travellers life, however the author went over the top and by that made situations worse than they could have been in real life. As example the main character Liz runs into her 2 nd grade friend and it makes her journey longer and it tears her apart from her friend Dave witch who they planned the journey together

wallet that... well. NOMINATIVE SENTENCES NOMINATIVE SENTENCES are just a noun-sentence, containing a noun or a nominal-noun-phrase sentence. NOMINATIVE SENTENCES strengthen the dynamic nature of the narrative. NT: London. Parks. Horse rides. Noisy streets. Noisy traffic. Policeman. Such sentences evoke a more or less isolated idea of an object without any connection with other objects. These sentences appeal to reader's imagination, and thus makes the reader active. ASYNDETON ASYNDETON means intentional omission of conjunctions between parts of a sentence or between sentences, disregarding norms of the literary language. Referencing style, kuidas kirjandites autoritele viidata

Leicester: BPS, 1979. You should always follow these recommendations in your written work. The BPS journals use the author-date method of citation, that is the surname of the author and the year of publication are inserted in the text at the appropriate point, for example: Rabbitt (1970) compared reaction times... Or In a recent study of reaction times, Rabbitt (1970) found... Or In 1970, Rabbitt compared.. These methods enable the reader to locate easily the citation in the reference list given at the end of the report. If a work has two authors, cite both names in the text every time, e.g. Smith & Jones (1974). If a work has three or more authors, give names in full when the reference is first cited and then use et al. on all subsequent occasions, e.g. Hunt et al. (1970) found.. If the abbreviation et al. leads to a confusion between two groups of authors e.g.

Fame is a Fickle Food

"Fame is a Fickle Food" by Emily Dickinson Analysis Liisi Pajula In her poem "Fame is a Fickle Food", Emily Dickinson quite clearly compares fame to something very changing and uncertain. She compares it to food, which at first seems tempting, but is actually venomous and deadly. From the very beginning of the poem, we get the idea that Dickinson has her mind set against fame and those, who run after it. With using words such as 'fickle' and 'shifting' she very successfully demonstrates that fame is not permanent and should thus be handled with care. Dickinson also says that true fame is something one can achieve only once ("Whose table once a Guest, but not / The second time is set"). She goes on to explain that after fame has faded, its not too pleasant insides become visib...

private school, to avoid facing his parents. His dark and at times depressive thoughts and emotions have been mixed with humour and brutal reality, making this book stirring to read. The novel is a fantastic example of the coming of age genre, thanks to its various themes of rebellion, emotional and mental growth and indifferent, “I couldn’t care less” attitude. The themes are apparent throughout the novel, giving the reader a clear view of what it’s like to be a teenager, who has no idea what to do with their life. The rebellious tone of the novel and its characters shines out right from the beginning, not only through the actions, such as getting expelled or being in a fight, but also through the frequent use of profanities, which make the characters more realistic rather than adorned. Even though the themes and topics discussed in the

notable notions - at the disposal of anyone involved in design willing to use them. Had it really been made a part of compulsory reading for every designer ever educated from now on, the world undoubtedly would have become a better, more comfortable and user friendly place. One of the leitmotifs of the book that keeps re-emerging throughout is that majority of so called human errors are caused by inadequate design - a notion that serves as an active consolation thanks to which the reader is delivered from their feeling of incompetence. Although majority of readers do openly embrace this deliverance, to reinstate its validity I would refer to aviation industry, known for continuous reissue of regulations upon the standards to which cockpit and other human-operable equipment should conform after any major accident where "human error" has been detected. They do recognize that the actual fault is with the machinery and that it should have been "designed for error" in the first place

With a high internet penetration rate and widespread e-commerce and e-government services embedded into the daily lives of individuals and organizations, Estonia has become a model for free internet access as a development engine for society. As a Mashable reader pointed out, NATO's Cooperative Cyber Defense Centre of Excellence was built in Estonia in 2008, resulting in the funneling of funds to improve the country's IT infrastructure. Connecting Ideas Logically and Effectively

We should therefore insist that ICN send their own engineer to service the equipment. Alternatively, the equipment should be transported to the ICN plant for inspection and repair there. Discussion 1 Although Text 25 is not impossible to read, Text 26 is far easier. This is because in Text 26 the writer uses linking words moreover, however, consequently, although, therefore, alternatively to indicate the relationship between the ideas in the text. This makes it far easier for the reader to follow the writer's line of thought, or argument. Did you, for example, immediately realise that the last two sentences were alternative proposals when you read Text 25? If the writer's line of thought is not made clear to the reader in this way, there is a much greater chance that the reader will misunderstand the meaning that the writer intends. These linking words are therefore extremely important. Note that connectives may be grouped in two different ways
