Estonian cities Tallinn is the capital and largest city of Estonia. It occupies an area of 159.2 square kilometers with a population of 413,000. It is situated on the northern coast of the country, on the banks of the Gulf of Finland, 80 km south of Helsinki, east of Stockholm and west of Saint Petersburg. Tallinn was founded in the 12th century and has been under the rule of Denmark, Sweden, and Germany as well as Russia, and all left their mark on the city's architecture.
