The Cataclysmic Death of Stars

planets, Gal-Yam said. He added: "I'm just really happy to be observing this." The star had begun its race to destruction long before that night on Palomar, when it began to lose a lifelong fight against gravity. Gravity is responsible for setting newborn stars aflame, by squeezing atoms of hydrogen in the star's core so tightly that they fuse to make helium. The fusion generates light and heat and also exerts pressure that allows the core to withstand the enormous weight of the star's outer layers. But when the core consumes all of its hydrogen, gravity compresses it. The temperature of the shrinking core rises to about a hundred million degrees, hot enough for helium nuclei to fuse and make carbon. The new surge of energy keeps the core from collapsing much further. For an isolated star no heavier than the sun, there is little more to the story. The star burns all of its helium and shrivels. It turns into a white dwarf about the size of Earth, aging and cooling

century, which in its time referred besides social status also to national background, as the ruling class were mainly German at the time. The former peasant costume of regional variation has become today a national symbol and has turned due to its altered function into a national dress. Estonian country folk produced their clothing mainly from home-spun woollen or linen fabric: shirts and married women's head-wear was mostly made from linen, while various outer garments, gloves, stockings and socks, were made from wool. The majority of the clothes remained undyed for a long time: linen garments were bleached white, while woollen outer garments were mainly sheep-brown or black. The wool for making skirts was dyed with herbal dyes. The bedstraw root was particularly widely used to produce red colouring. Indigo was the first dye to be widely bought during the 18th century.

later on several forms of the same name were used, such as Kik (Kyk) in de Kok, Kiek in die Küche, Pulffer-Thurm Giecken Köck. In 1696 the present name Kiek in de Kök was also mentioned, meaning "peek into the kitchen" in Low German. And true enough, it was possible to watch what the enemy was doing in their "kitchen" i.e. on position lower down from the about 38m-high tower. Already in the late 15th century the tower was somewhat reconstructed. The outer walls were made thicker and the tower got a diameter of 17.3 m. The walls are 4 m thick but the tower was then lower than today. The waterproof upper floor made of cobblestones was open and had 22 embrasures in its parapet. The parapet must have been covered by some kind of a roof but the middle part of the floor was uncovered to get the mortars and catapults in place better. Compared to the other Tallinn towers Kiek in de Kök was predominant in its fire power,

glass cities, where to live. Water won't be drinkable and people will buy all needful water from shops, actually not from shops but from the internet, because there won't be shops anymore. Food nearly won't exist anymore; energy will come in tablet form. Transport will be a lot comfortable and faster. Cars will be soundless and all vehicles will whir ten times faster. You will think nothing of taking a holiday in outer space. Students will learn from TV, recorders and teaching machines. They will get pills to make them learn faster. We shall be healthier, too. There will be no common colds, cancer, tooth decay or mental illness. But this will be artificial and impermanent. People will be lazier because they won't have to do any work and life will be extremely comfortable but boring. It looks that if everything will be so easy, people will probably die simply from boredom.

Kiek in de Kök

Kiek in de Kök is an old German language nickname for towers, mainly those that formed parts of town fortifications. They gained the name from the ability of tower occupants to see into kitchens of nearby houses. Due to the history of the Hanseatic League and the Teutonic Order, also towers far outside modern Germany bear this name, like in Gdask and Tallinn. The tower in Tallinn is an artillery tower built in 1475.The walls are 4 m thick but the tower was then lower than today. The waterproof upper floor made of cobblestones was open and had 22 embrasures in its parapet. The parapet must have been covered by some kind of a roof but the middle part of the floor was uncovered to get the mortars and catapults in place better. Compared to the other Tallinn towers Kiek in de Kök was predominant in its fire power, due to its 27 embrasures for cannons and 30 for handguns. History The Tower of London was founded in 1078 by William the Conqueror. In the 12th century, King Richard the Lionheart enclosed the White Tower with a curtain wall and had a moat dug around it. The fortification was completed in 1280 by Edward I, who built the outer curtain wall. The Tower today is principally a tourist attraction. Besides the buildings themselves, the British Crown Jewels and a remnant of the wall of the Roman fortress are on display. Primary Functions The tower's primary function was a fortress, a royal palace, and a prison for high status and royal prisoners. It has also served as a place of execution and torture, an armoury, a treasury, a zoo, the Royal Mint, a public records office, an

If an incident would happen to the spacecraft, lots of debris would be scattered in our atmosphere. Nuclear weaponry is also a source of the radioactive waste. It causes a lot of radioactive waste. The nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki resulted in casualties of a staggering 246,000 people.Radiation sickness killed thousands more.

The Colossus of Rhodes

The Rhodians decided to express their pride by building a triumphal statue of their favourite god, Helios. The task was assigned to the sculptor Chares of Lindos, a pupil of Lysippos himself, and twelve years (from 304 to 292 BC) were needed to complete it. The Colossus of Rhodes was not only a gigantic statue. It was a symbol of unity of the people who inhabited that beautiful Mediterranean island of Rhodes. To build the statue, the workers cast the outer bronze skin parts. The base was made of white marble, and the feet and ankle of the statue were first fixed. The structure was gradually erected as the bronze form was fortified with an iron and stone framework. To reach the higher parts, an earth ramp was built around the statue and was later removed. When the Colossus was finished, it stood about 33 metres (110 ft) high. A strong earthquake hit Rhodes at around 226 BC. The city was badly damaged, and the

The Cement Garden Character Sketch

Tom is the brother of the narrator of the story. He is the youngest child in the family. Tom was a 6-year-old little boy with pale skin. He had a bit big ears, black hair and his smile seemed idiotic. Tom was tender but mettlesome. Since he was the youngest child in the family he was mostly left out due to his age. Other siblings had their own activities together and Tom was too young to understand or take part. I.g. the game of scientists examining a specimen from outer space. His relationship with his father had changed after his father had become semi-invalid. After the incident Tom’s father was very severe with him. He felt like he had to compete for mother’s attention and frequently spited him with stinging criticism. Tom was afraid of his father. Tom’s mother was aware of the situation but did not intervene. “She took all this in silence. If Father then left the room she would smile briefly at Tom or tidy his hair with her fingers

Giza Pyramid

Great Pyramid of Giza The Great Pyramid of Giza (also called the Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Cheops) is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis and is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that survives mostly intact. Originally the Great Pyramid was covered by casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface, and what is seen today is the underlying core structure. Some of the casing stones that once covered the structure can still be seen around the base. There have been different scientific and alternative theories regarding the Great Pyramid's construction techniques. Most accepted construction theories are based on the idea that it was built by moving huge stones from a quarry and dragging and lifting them into place. There are three known chambers inside the Great Pyramid

Tuumarelvad

29 Augustil 1949 aastal katsetati Nõukogude Liidus esmakordselt tuumapommi. Protseduur on ammendamatu

Art of Healing: present and future

is due to imbalance of these forces in the body. The aim of acupuncture is to re- establish the balance by using the needles at certain points of the body. Other known alternative medicines are massage, bathing and aromatherapy. The medicine continues to develop. We watched a film called "The Island". It talked about a big group of people who were really clones of rich and famous people who lived in the real world. The clones thought that the outer world was almost destroyed and that there was only one beautiful island left where only chosen people were sent. When the famous person from the real world got madly hurt his clone was told that he would go to the island. In reality they took the clones organs that were inserted to the hurt celebrity. My opinion is that this may be possible to do this kind of things in the year of 2018 but I don't think they really will use anything similar to this method. It was very

Inuit Culture

boats called "umiaq" transported people, dogs, and supplies. Finding Food Because Inuit live in places where most plants cannot grow, the traditional diet consisted of almost entirely meat. Inuit fished and hunted to get their food. Whales, walruses, seals, fish were staples of their diet. Clothing for Staying Warm Traditional Inuit clothing was made from animal skins and fur. Boots were also made from animal skins. Large, thick coats with big hoods called "parkas" were worn as an outer layer. Today the parka style of coat is worn in other places in the world and it is made of many other materials. Traditions Although Inuit life has changed significantly over the past century, many traditions continue. Traditional storytelling, mythology, and dancing remain important parts of the culture. Family and community are very important. The Inuktitut language is still spoken in many areas of the Arctic and is common on radio and in television programming.

The country lies within the north temperate zone, and has a changeable, maritime climate. People in Wales speak Welsh and English. Sadly 73% of people say that they have no skills in Welsh. HISTORY! Neanderthals lived in what is now Wales at least 230,000 years ago. Homo sapiens had arrived by about 31,000 BC. The first people from outer world to step their foot on Wales' area were Celts about 1000 BC. The first recorded information about people in Wales is when Romans came in the 48AD. At that time people talked in Celtic language, which later on was evolved to Welsh. When Kingdom of Mercia invaded England it the was the most powerful from 650800. The Welsh people didn't want to surrender so they kept fighting back but they sadly lost their land to this powerful new kingdom

are likely one of the most essential mechanisms to avoid fixation and colonization by microorganisms in nature (Ely et al., 2017). Etiology Moraxella bovis is the most common etiological agent isolated in chronic and severe instance of IBK. Some of the bacteria characteristics are responsible for taking crucial part to evolve the disease. Especially the components such as pili, discharge of cytotoxin and hemolysin, 2 also outer membrane proteins and lipopolysaccharides. The different virulence strains of the disease are associated with capsular pili. Pili is important structural attributes that helps the bacteria to adhere to the corneal surface. Attachment keeps bacteria safe from blinking activity of the eyelids and being washed off by the lachrymal secretions (Postma et al., 2007). The pilated strain of Moraxella bovis is the only form able to cause infection and clinical signs

Wave-energy

Principle of an impulse turbine Exercise: Period of an oscillating water column Please calculate the period of an oscillating water column rope if the coupling length is 25 meter. Wave swing (Archimedes) The vertical up and down movement of the waves drives a floating device which converts the kinetic energy directly into electrical energy. This device is anchored to the sea floor and consists of two cylinders, which float in the water. The outer cylinder reacts to the varying buoyancy by performing a vertical movement. Consequently there is also a relative motion between the outer and the inner cylinder. Then the linear generators within the device transfer this oscillation into electricity.
