The airline specifically targeted price-sensitive customers, and kept ticket prices low by keeping costs low. Southwest's success comes from identifying its critical success factors (CSFs) and developing its business strategy around them. The company's CSFs include:  lowest fares in the marketplace  competition with bus and automobile transport, rather than other airlines  low overhead costs and a cost-conscious employee culture  low debt-to-equity ratio  lower wages offset by profit sharing plans  friendly, courteous staff with a strong commitment to the organization  high standards of teamwork without rigid job demarcations  quick turnaround times optimizing aircraft usage Course: Thinking Strategically

Marginal Revenue (MR) = Change in Total Revenue from selling ONE additional unit of output. Same as price. - MR = TR from selling 1 more unit of output = price The reason MR=D=AR=P is because in a purely competitive firm the price carries over from the industry and thus that equals the demand. At this demand each additional output increases by the same degree and the average revenue at any point is the same price. Even with changes in the marketplace, the line may move vertically but the values will always be equal Price line is the same as the average revenue or marginal revenue since the price is fixed Profit Maximization in the Short-run: TR/TC Approach · Firm = price taker firms can only adjust output to maximize profit · Short-run = fixed plant firms can only adjust amount of variable resource such as labor and materials. 2 ways to determine maximum profit and minimum loss output level

A newer technology, called dual in-line memory module (DIMM), provides a 64-bit bus. For modern Pentium microprocessors that have a 64-bit bus, you must use either DIMMs or pairs of SIMMs. Chipset Models - Today there are many chipset models in the marketplace. Lower Town In the 13th century a large number of Germans settled at the foot of the Upper town, where they gradually built a free town of merchants and craftsmen the so-called Lower Town. It was laid out with three things in mind: the place had to serve as a fortress, and it had to have both a port and a marketplace. As a rule, people lived on the ground and first floors of a house. Goods were kept on the second or even the third floor. They were hoisted up with the help of pulleys. Only one room was heated; in other rooms, warm stones were used. The Burger King menu has evolved from a basic offering of burgers, fries, sodas and milkshakes in 1954 to a larger, more diverse set of offerings that includes several variations of chicken, fish, salads and breakfast. The Whopper, a sandwich that has since become Burger King's signature product, was the first major addition to the menu by Mr. McLamore in 1957. Not all introductions have had the success of the Whopper; BK has introduced many products which failed to catch hold in the marketplace. Some products that have failed in the US have seen success in foreign markets, where BK has also tailored its menu for regional tastes. The company's "Golden Age" of advertising was during the 1970s when it introduced its mascot the Magical Burger King, a memorable jingle, and several well known and parodied slogans. America & China is creating a tidal-wave of change in the competitive environment. Organisations that once felt insulated from overseas low-priced competitors now find that they too must not only continue to constantly create new value for customers, but must do so at a lower price. To meet the challenge of simultaneously reducing cost and enhancing customer value requires a radically different approach to the way the business responds to marketplace demand. One of the keys to success is the creation of an agile supply chain on a worldwide scale. The Agile Supply Chain: There is now widespread recognition of the role that supply chain management can play in enabling organisations to compete in volatile markets. However, experience suggests that there are significant barriers both within the company and between its upstream and downstream partners in achieving the required level of responsiveness across the chain as a whole.

The national narrative originated in nineteenthcentury history texts, which fuse ProtestantChristian and Enlightenment values. According to the textbooks, the Puritans came to the New World to establish religious freedom, and American civil liberties are a uniquely Protestant idea. The doctrine of Free Trade became part of the narrative, semantically shifting words like "freedom" to connote the marketplace rather than the social arena. By the end of the century the energies of 19thcentury evangelical outreach crossed over into U.S. national selffashioning, and history texts positioned the Founding Fathers as directors of a divinely mandated mission to spread American civilization around the globe. Sunflower oil generally is considered a premium oil due to its light color, mild flavor, low level of saturated fats and ability to withstand high cooking temperatures. Despite these advantages, it is normally handled in the U.S. marketplace as a commodity vegetable oil. In the U.S., sunflower is perhaps better known as a snack food, even though that is actually a smaller market for the crop. Birdseed Another well-known use of sunflower in the U.S. is as a birdseed, most typically mixed with millet and other grains. The black oilseed varieties usually are favored over the striped confectionary seeds, since they cost less per pound. Sunflower seeds' high oil content provides a good energy source for birds. way than anything being offered by its competitors. It stays in busi- ness as long as it continues to satisfy its customers in a particular area better than anyone else. The competitive advantage or unique selling proposition of a com- pany determines its rate of growth, its level of sales, its profitability, and its very survival. Companies without a competitive advantage soon disappear from the marketplace, to be replaced by other com- panies with clear, unmistakable, competitive advantages that cus- tomers can and will pay for. You are no different. As the president of a company of one, you, too, must develop and maintain meaningful competitive advantage. satellites into orbit, we Africans still don’t have the capacity even to refine the oil for ourselves. Kai! And we so happy there is oil in Ghana!) If you are talking of a state of Black economy, you have to talk about a people who are able to create products from its inception to market. You cannot talk of an economy where the people are mere consumers. Take a walk through the theatres of the marketplace. When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you do? Of course you turn on the light – electricity. There is no electricity utility company owned by Blacks either in Africa or the Diaspora. Even the lanterns which are still used in most African villages, are imported. You shower. You show me a water company owned by Blacks. Though Africans have water companies, they invariably still have to be built and maintained for them by Europeans

LPR would dive in with both feet and get more up to speed to be able to do all kinds of drawing and logistics within the Tekla modeling environment. We would just work in Tekla and would probably not use CAD. But the problem is that the whole world is diversified so we are having to do import/export and kind of have a single bases for how we approach our work. We do imports and exports out of whatever we can get in the marketplace. You never know what job we are going to get tomorrow and who is going to be using what program. In that respect we are kind of limited. It might be a good thing for us to get into Revit and start using Revit type modeling. So at least we have some intelligence in our CAD. I’m thinking that might be a potential solution for us to go to the next level from a steel erector’s point of view and try to use some intelligent modeling.

Therefore, when increasing scarcity-or anything else-interferes with our prior access to some item, we will react against the interference by wanting and try- ing to possess the item more than we did before. As simple as the kernel of the theory seems, its shoots and roots curl exten- sively through much of the social environment. From the garden of young love to the jungle of armed revolution to the fruits of the marketplace, impressive amounts of our behavior can be explained by examining the tendrils of psychological reac- tance. Before beginning such an examination, though, it would be helpful to de- termine when people first show the desire to fight against restrictions of their freedoms. Child psychologists have traced the tendency back to the age of 2-a time iden- tified as a problem by parents and widely known to them as "the terrible twos." Most

I've had the chance to try out the Hero's Journey concepts with the big toys. I saw where it works but also where my understanding of it fell short and needed to be adjusted. M y beliefs about what makes a good story were tested in the toughest arenas on earth — Hollywood story conferences and the world marketplace — and I hope my understanding has grown from the objections, doubts, and questions of my esteemed colleagues, and from the reaction of the audience. At the same time, I kept up a schedule of lecturing about The Writer's Journey that took me far afield from the literal, geographic bounds of Hollywood, into the greater-world Hollywood, the international film community. I had the fortune to see how the ideas of the Hero's Journey unfold in cultures different from the one I grew
